It's roughly two months to go until release day now so I figured it's high time we had a thread / new thread for this.
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/objects/686/686645.html
Overall it's shaping up to be every bit as good as the original <3 if not (dare I say it) better, the demo is due to hit XBLM this month and the game is due out the end of next month.
Who's hyped for / gonna get this?

I'm pretty pumped:)
Edge preview this month laments a truly shite camera though. Hopefully it'll still be super fucking wicked anyway like the last one.

The camera was awful in the first game so same old same old really. Is this game also going to come out for the PS3?

If the camera is the same as the one in Ninja Gaiden Sigma then nps cos lol it was one that you control yourself anyway so the only real problem with a system like that is if you put it in the wrong place. :/
So camera "issue" aside this should be every bit as awesome as the original.
As for the to PS3 or not to PS3 topic I think that if it comes out on the PS3 (which is unlikely atm) then the 360 should get a port of Ninja Gaiden Sigma as well, which baring in mind NGII seems to be exclusive to 360 is kind of mind boggling why the original hasn't been ported to the 360 allready, I know the Xbox had NG and NGB but meh a 360 port of NG with achievements and an unlockable version of the Nes NG would own. :P

Its weird...
I loved Ninja Gaiden so much that i have both the original XBOX games. I didn't buy Sigma because i couldn't be bothered to play through it three times.
I'm not excited about Ninja Gaiden II, at all. I've pre ordered it, but i'm not like "wooo can't wait!" kinda thing. Hell, i don't feel that at all about games these days.
The camera was awful in the first game so same old same old really.
The camera was much improved in Ninja Gaiden Black.
then the 360 should get a port of Ninja Gaiden Sigma as well
With improved graphics. The Sigma graphics are kind of "stuck in the middle"...while the original looked absolutely fantastic for an Xbox game, Sigma looked very poor for a next-gen re-release.
Anyway, I can't wait to chop off limbs.

the ability to slice off limbs is one i look forward too, frankly. I was a bit sore that only the japanese version had decapitations in the original so they better not censor it. presumably, it's too fundamental to the animation etc etc to do away with this time.
also, new weapons look sick as fuck. scythe, claws, akimbo swords. mmmm.

I have to admit to never having played a Ninja Gaiden before, but I'm looking forward to the demo, and from there possibly the full game.

Wasn't it just the US version of the original Ninja Gaiden (Xbox, not NES) that had decapitations. Still, they put them back into the game for Ninja Gaiden Black with no problems.
I'm hoping that the new weapons will be useful - the ones in NG weren't that wonderful apart from the Dragon Sword.

Daiboro sword was a boss killer on sigma (mate has a ps3). Charge it up to full, then release. Rinse and repeat till bos was dead. Was it the same for the earlier versions?
I have completed Ninja Gaiden, but do miss it's harsh teachings and am mulling over getting Black. Also, apart from graphics and mission mode, what else was added in sigma, as I may just wait till i get a ps3 and get that version instead.

I reckon thats why.
And also this is just ridiculous.
In this specific battle, however, the boss explodes, and if you don't have enough health to survive it, or can't turn and block in time (which didn't seem to block all the damage anyway), you die and have to do the entire battle again.

Every review and preview I've read says that the camera is shite. It's a damn shame too, as the camera is as important as the controls in games like this. I'll hopefully enjoy it all the same.
Edit - Fuck, mid combat loading? That's terrible. Team Ninja's games are usually technically outstanding, what happened here?
I might wait for the inevitable PS3 port six months down the line with all the problems fixed.
And also this is just ridiculous.
That sounds awful. It's bad enough that we have only so much health per fight and a normal health bar.
Still...I'll wait for some decent reviewers to review the game and try the demo.

Some pretty bizarre complaints. No free roaming (and they seemed to imply that free roaming didn't exist until Rockstar invented it...did they completely miss games like The Legend of Zelda on the NES, and probably some before that) and no online aren't problems at all. And with boss fights...having flashing segments is a common complaint...so why complain when a game doesn't have them as well.
Good luck figuring that one out!
Well..now we don't have to.

01-06-2008, 03:28 PM
Well..now we don't have to.They don't tell you how to survive the explosion, that's what they're getting at! Having killed the boss you yourself get killed!
Don't think they were complaining about a lack of free roaming either, they are just informing people watching the review that Ninja Gaiden is a linear game [they're not stupid, they know that NG is a completely different game to GTA, and aren't making a comparison].

I'm not a huge NG fan, but I suppose fans will love it as it seems more of the same but expanded. The camera is still shit and the levels still aren't adapting to the lack of camera quality which can be frustrating in combat, asides from that not much to say, brutal action, lots of limbs coming off, blood, some stylish things here and there, awesome weapons and that's pretty much what I could gather from the demo. Ah and the d-pad menu is pretty useful.

I have the game in my hands and a hard on in my trousers. I'll be back with 1st impressions.
Edit: Jesus tap dancing Christ I love this game. This guy comes at me, I roll behind him, hold y, release, go through him, then throw him up in the air, jump up, spin, taking off both his arms, nock him back down, the plunge down decapitating him. Who needs murder when you have this game?
After playing the demo, I'm defintely getting the game. It's so much fun to hack people to bits.
I love how you can still do the finishing move on people just after you've chopped their head off.

Okay, just started chapter 7. I can't figure out if this game is easier or i've just gotten better after playing DMC4 and GOW since the last game, but i'm getting through it quicker than I did black. Still some hard points though. I already prefer it to anything else on the system. The greatest thing about the original is still here though, f*ck up once and this game will rape you till winter.

06-06-2008, 10:08 AM
Been playing this since yesterday, up to chapter 4 now, I swear that this game is even more sadistically satisfying than the original. :heh:
High points - the new combo system and finishing moves / new weapons are amazing, looks nice too and save/load times aren't as bad as people thought they might be and are a small price to pay for a game such as this.
Low points - bosses that rape you, kill you, rape you again and kill you twenty times more just for lols... >> I do enjoy a challenge but some of the bosses are a tad trying on my patience and those exploding, sword wielding Ninja Dogs, the air turns electric blue whenever I encounter those.
Still overall I am really enjoying this game, gonna be playing this as much as I can before MGS4 comes out, good times.

The dogs are pretty annoying.
The second trial of valor was hard the first time, easy the second once i got a good tactic down.
Just got to Vienna. I'm guessing theres only 1 achievement for finishing chapter 4?

I just got there - I love the new water fighting. I only got the one achievement for chapter 4. That boss was really annoying. I found him rather inconsistent, too. The first time I almost killed him, the second time he completely raped me within 20 seconds. On around the 7th try I completely owned him.
I haven't found any of the trials, though.
Edit: Apparently I also missed two weapons.
I think I may start again on Path of the Warrior. See how far I get.
Edit 2: I changed my mind. Decided to just continue.
I just encountered the worst AI ever. I ran away from a massive group of the chapter 4 creatures and went across some water. They jump into the water and died.

OMFG! I've finally finished the fifth trial of Valour! hell yeah! I've been stuck on that trial for the whole weekend (on and off) as I'm trying to complete them all as part of my first play through but god damn that trial was insane.
On my last try I just got so pissed off with those fiends in huge mech suits that I decided to take out all of those first, (yes with rockets still flying at me and the numerous other ninjas trying to rape me at every given half second) but yeah I'd take one out, use fully maxed out fire Ninpo to get rid of a few, then the next, lather, rinse repeat.
I used the flying bird technique throughout and no projectiles (because I didn't have time to use any) got the ninjas next and then took out all the waves of guys with rockets and the feeling of satisfaction when I severed that last rocekt wielding ninjas head as it rolled across the floor with his splattered gore on the ground spelling out my victory was immense. ^^
And then the feeling of absolute horror when I opened one of the two boxes at the END only to find sodding GHOST PHIRHANAS! inside, ffs >< I didnt even attempt to fight them after that trial, I just grabbed the purple jewel from the remaining box and jumped on the warp frantically pressing R and then A and nabbing myself a god damned well earned achievement.
This game hates me and everyone who plays it, that much is evident from the way it tears you a handfull of holes and rapes the wounds at every given oppourtunity... and yet... I love it so much. :blank:
I still haven't found a single Trial of Valour.
I'm now on chapter 8. The Chapter 7 boss took two tries. The first time I didn't block in time and I'd forgotten to equip the Talisman of Rebirth, the second time I'd remembered to equip the Talisman but managed to block it anyway. It wasn't much of a problem considering it only took around 30 seconds to kill him both times.
It's pretty handy that the block works on enemies that explodes when thy die and (I think - not 100% sure) explosive shurikens that are stuck to you.
The Ghost Piranhas are very annoying. And were extremely confusing when you first saw them.

Just got to the "Russian" level after the airship. Man that last trial of valor was dog shit crazy. But all the crazy robots is getting a little nuts.
I managed to kill the chapter 7 boss without getting hit, nevermind getting killed. Get it into a corner, spam it to death with a fully upgraded double Katana. Win.
I just found out that I can't do the trails because I missed the Rod in chapter 2. I think when I've finished I'll re-do the Path of the Acolyte just to get absolutely everything.
Edit: There's one section which throws a massive amount of enemies at you.
So many that the game slows to around 4 frames per second. Who's crazy idea was that?

Also done. I'm also disappointed with the final weapon.
Still, now I've just gotten used to the shadowless footsteps (I think that's the dashing when you're block is broken) and ultimate techniques/guidance I should be able to do warrior. I just want to do it again on Acolyte to get everything.

seconded. Its a game that has a strong fanbase but few people play it. just like the first one, which didnt even make it to the charts (as far as I can remember) so, Im impressed too
I'm rather amazed at ho learning a few techniques can improve your skills.
You meet the first boss quite a few times later on in the game. Each time I struggled with it. Now I've learnt how to play the game properly at the start of Path of the Warrior and I just completely owned the first boss without getting hit. And then again when you meet him in Chapter 2.

This game sometimes feels harder than the first and I think I know why.
The graphics!
Seriously: in the first game there was a...spartan cleanliness to the graphics- not much got in the way of what you were actually doing, and you could really concentrate. Now, with the much more complicated textures and animation, I'm often finding myself surrounded by a whirling mass of enemies and just getting lost. The much closer camera and obliteration technique close ups really don't help, either.
