View Full Version : Make tha cool Revolution name!

So, its highly unlikely that the Revolution will be called Revolution: SPonG (http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=9292)
So I was thinking it would be cool to see what names we could come up with, and what names we think are cool. So please come up with some cool names for the Revolution!!
Zion , iGAME , Megaflux , aVo , Super Duper Nintendo Entertainment System (SDNES) , Nintendo Game System (nah, too easy), iON , Gamebox.

Im annoyed that they arnt goin 2 keep 'revolution' as the name.... it is so fitting after all. and that also means that as soon as we find out we'll have 2 put up with the usual 'the nintendo revolution.. ahhh i mean nintendo *actual name*' whenever refering 2 the console.
But otherwise beside that i dont really mind on the provision it is a cool name... but if its not!!!!! *raises palm in preperation for potential back-handng*

They can't call it Revolution because it is word that is overly use.
Revo is a cool name.
Or Nintendo RS (Revolutionary System) to be in line with DS.
I hope they don't call it futurna, because it sounds fishy. LOL

O cmon... you people must be kidding right? N5? That is the biggest piece of cop-out nonsense I have ever heard.... plus it is very un-Nintendo. N5 sounds familiar..
...Sounds a lot like the PlayStation 6 5000!
I am with Konfucius though. The name should illustrate the system's functionality and it must also be VERY public friendly. Remember, people must feel comfortable to approach the system (in line with the controller design).
I find all the names for technical products a bit scary now... mobile phones, cars, even ordering a coffee is fairly user unfriendly. I work in a wine shop and each bottle has it's own personality and a NAME not some stupid serial number....
Out with silly numbers I say, doubt Nintendo would use them anyway.

Not saying i like the name N5, but Nintendo 64 is an example that they would put a number in, they've done it before so why not now? Well regardless i like revo, i don't really mind.

N5 is a good name, and also the first codename the revolution had.
I want something that makes an impact. Like: 'The Nintendo' not been used before, no gimmicky names, just down to the point and means business.

Jamba
10-11-2005, 12:36 PM
But N64 didn't attract people to play it or feel easy about playing it.
I'm thinking in advertising terms here and I think they will come up with something to do with the controller, something that actually communicates. Possibly using words like:
Stimulus
Impulse
Intuition
These represent the concepts of how easy the controller is to use but if you want to start conglomerating the concepts of online multiplay and the immersion into games due the the feeling of the controller, maybe words like:
Connection
(dare I say it) Link
Nexus (which I like very much)
Which also lead onto a bunch of words like: Touch etc... but these all sound a bit familiar.

I like the N5 because it's short and simple, it would stand out, be easy to make a decent logo for.
I was looking at an ad in the new NOM 2day and thought that the PSP has such a better logo than the DS, the main part is short and large, whereas the DS's is too long etc etc. The same applies for the GameCube logo when it has the writing underneath.

Provinding that the other revolutionary aspect is a visor they could call it "Nintendo Vision". On a serious note n5 seems the most likely out of all the names here. Short, easy to remember like the old consoles, NES, SNES, N64. Who honestly refers to their GameCube as GCN?

I have to say that i am happy with "Revolution"! Just thought id grab the definition of revolution... for those whom may have forgotten...
revolution
noun
1: a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving; "the industrial revolution was also a cultural revolution"
2: the overthrow of a government by those who are governed
3: a single complete turn (axial or orbital); "the plane made three rotations before it crashed"; "the revolution of the earth about the sun takes one year"
in comments to:
1: yep. this sums up nintendo and its ideas in one go.
2: well, i have to say that if they can overthrow Microsoft, thatd be interesting.
3: This is a complete description of Ninty's idea to bring back the retro games
and besides. its sounds good! Viva le Revolution!

Ultra Nintendo = (U.N.E.S.) = Nick name UNES(You Ness)
Ultra Famicom in Japan
Ultra Nintendo Keeps in tradition with Super Nintendo. This name will bring alot of nastalgia back. People would look at it as Super Nintendo 2 and i think that's what everybody is waiting for from nintendo. Ultra was the nick name for N64 and everybody was excited for Ultra 64 so this will also play a role in to the conscious of those people who anticipated Ultra 64.
The only problem with this name i see is Ultra isn't really a popular word these days. If you wanted to cater to todays standards you may have to call it Xtreme Nintendo but that flat out sucks. Ultra Nintendo sounds cool to me. Nintendo Revolution is too long. N5 is also cool.

Basing on the fact that Sony pretty much maintain the name "Playstation" (i.e "Play" & "Station") and MS has the "X" box, I'm seeing that to maintain something that would transcend system generations in the same way. Since Nintendo has the "Game" boy and the "Game" cube, I'm thinking something along the lines of using "Game" as the Nintendo thing. As such:
Nintendo GameWorks (or GameWorx, kinda like Waxwork): I see a logo with a large gear and a small gear (kind of like that of a clock or watch).
Other ideas would be like Nintendo Mercury.
I liked mike-zim's suggestion too. I'm thinking:
Nintendo Sapphire
Nintendo Diamond
Nintendo Ruby
Nintendo Emerald
etc.
Though I suppose we can leave that as color options and market it as a prescious stones theme.
It has to relate to what the Revolution does surely...?
For example Gamecube was called Gamecube because it's a Games machine and a 'CUBE' kinda....
So Nintendo-Motion makes sense, and it's a good name for advertisement etc.. 'Got the motion?' etc.. It's a movement used with the controller.
Or Nintendo'i' short for Nintendo Interact etc...
:)

I think they should really just keep it as revolution... thats what it is known as the world round.to change it is gunna confuse alot of people. and what gets me even more is nintendo saying it is just a codename then they open up pages on nintendo.com that link to the 'revolution' (though they make sure to specify that it is a codename). They have stuck with this name for so long. even when the gamecube was called 'dolphin' they never opened a link on there website to show off the 'dolpfin'. once the console was shown the name was also revealed. but now when people look at the remote or the console all they can think of is 'revolution'.
and also really why is it taking them so long to release JUST the name? the name has no impact what-so-ever on how the console works, it shouldnt have to be a big secret that they must patent as to avoid sony or microsoft stealing it, like the controller (and other possible suprises to come), ITS JUST THE NAME!!!!!!
the name has no impact what-so-ever on how the console worksYeah, but seriously. Would you buy a console called the 'Starcube'?
I'd think twice. If they'd kept 'Starcube' as the name, rather than Gamecube, Nintendo's time in the ring this generation would have been even shorter.
The name is a huge part of brand recognition, and needs to be carefully nutted out.

iGame is too iPod inspired. I dont think Nintendo would go for that name. As for what the Revolution is, its new and fresh, special simpler interaction, something everyone can use. The GC originally was called Dolphin and had a Flipper CPU or GPU but it didn't became the final name.
Now the Revo has CPU and GPU called Hollywood and Broadway but the Codename has nothing to do with it, could it be that the final name has something to do with it then?

lol i must say, i had to laugh when i heard names like NINTENDONG or NINTENDOWNAGE. :santa:
Nintendo Motion applies very well and is a nice word, it's like eating honey when you speak that word and think of that system :)
in my opinion the word should be comfortable to tell others. revolution fits in there, motion does too, but is a lil bit better because it's shorter. i don't like long names like "exbox sreesicksty" or crappy stuff like "playstation" and "gamecube" might as well fit in that category. cool machine, crappy name. although i must admit it fits the shape of the console.
another point is: it should show what's revolutionary in one word, like: Nintendo Control.
and just to resume the scenery of jokey names: nintendo magic stick :P

*Mr. Reginald Fils-Aimé comes out at the E3 conference, and addresses the audience*
Reggie: "Ladies and gentlemen; for a couple of years now, I've been kicking ass and taking names for Nintendo, and you've been loving it! I've kicked so much ass that I acquired special steel boots so that I won't injure my feet, and my name list goes all the way around planet Mars - twice over! Now, it is time to show you the fruits of all the ass-kicking and name-taking Nintendo has been doing recently, and to take this attitude a step further I present to you - the Nintendo Reggielution!"
*Mr. Satoru Iwata and Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto step in from either side of the stage, wearing matching Mario and Luigi costumes, steel boots (a la Super Mario Bros. movie) and wielding enormous notepads and pencils. The curtains open, and the Reggielution is revealed in all its ass-kicking, name-taking glory. It's not much different from the previously seen prototype. The crowd goes "Huh?"*
Iwata: "Dear Nintendo fans all over the world; You all know about the revolutionary aspects of our new home console, such as the virtual console and freestyle controller. What you don't know, is that the Reggielution is not only revolutionary, but also reggielutionary! And now, to announce the surprise feature announced in December 2nd, here is Mr. Miyamoto."
Miyamoto: "Hi everybody!"
Audience: "Hi Mr. Miyamoto."
Miyamoto: "So, let me show what this reggielutionary surprise feature is by exemplifying it. Send him in, boys!"
*A youngster, barely in his teens, wearing badly matched clothes, his face covered in pimples, and with a "Sony r00l0rz" cap, reluctantly enters stage, and is immediately booed by the crowd*
Miyamoto: "Meet Mr. Playstation Fanboy! He came today to visit my humble Nintendo abode, and to have a go at the Reggielution! Isn't that right, Mr. Playstation Fanboy? Say, that's not your real name, is it?"
PS Fanboy (pointing at the console): "LOLOL! Is that it? What a joke! Reggielution? More like, Faggielution! The graphics on the PS3 are much better than the ones on that piece of s**t, never mind that I never saw them before! LOLOLOL!!1! Oh, and my name is Daniel."
Reggie: "Huuuu, that has got to hurt! What now, Mr. Miyamoto?"
Miyamoto: "Well, we'll see if Daniel here has the skills to match his mouth! Care to join me in Smash Bros., Danny?"
*Miyamoto gives Danny a freestyle controller*
Danny: "LOLOL, look at this piece of trash! It barely has any buttons! How am I supposed to play this s**tty game with this s**tty controller."
Miyamoto: "Like this."
*Miyamoto the proceeds to completely squash Danny at Smash Bros., using a few well placed waves and moves of the controller to pull out incredible acrobatic moves with his character. Danny's character flies off the screen in less than 10 seconds.*
Danny: "I can't believe this! How?..."
*Two guards dressed as koopas come in and drag Danny off the stage*
Miyamoto: "So, folks, now you know why it's called the Reggielution. If you ever play against someone who doesn't "get it" - like Danny here, you'll be able to easily kick their ass into kingdom come, in true reggielicious fashion! And what Danny here doesn't know, is that the Reggielution's built-in microphone has taken his name when he said it earlier, and sent it through its wireless Internet connection to our world wide database, where it will join the list of jerks who despise Nintendo for no other reason than our commitment to making games fun, regardless of the age of the people playing them!"
Iwata: "Soon, the Nintendo police will knock down their doors at 04:00 in the morning, break their PS's, throw their XBoxes out the window, and kidnap their children for enrolling in the "Nintendo Academy for Videogame Reeducation" - all free of charge, of course."
Reggie: "It's ass-kicking and name-taking gone extreme! It's the Reggielution revolution in videogaming!"
*The crowd roars and goes wild.*

meh i didn´t thing it would be called because bits, i think it is because Mario 64 was the first game in full 3D if i am correct and 3D games were some kind of a revolution in game making so i thought they would name it 128 because it´s suppose to be a revolution and mario 128.
As every non-stupid person may know that 64 times 2 is 128 so maybe it´s some kinda of N64 revolution times 2! /takes silly hat off

My calculations predicts that it will be called something with Nintendo and System in it. A hint to ye olde days of Nintendo goodness. Plus I remember reading it somewhere that we should expect something along those lines.

Nintendo - U
(meaning , you .... since you will be playing a much more major role in these new games... you'll need to become more involved in the gameplay , and since game movements are based on your own movements , the game will appear to be a reflection of you(U) ...)

I know it will never happen, but I think a cool name would be the OVNI, which means Objeto Volador No Identificado, or unidentified flying object. It has a cool sound to it and the console looks like a UFO, but it wouldn't appeal to casual gamers much.

Now seriously... if it's not simply the Nintendo Revolution, I'm betting on Nintendo Freestyle (after the controller).
That'd be quite a good idea actually, it'd certainly draw in the "50 Cent: Bulletproof" crowd.

It wouldn't sell in a good few countries...
Although I'm sure it'd do great in one perticular country! ^___^
But nah, I don't think nameing a games console after anything religious/political is a good idea.

N128?
Oh please, just stop it before I have to slap you! You are basing that on one name! And the reason Mario128 is called that is because it was meant to be a sequel to Mario64, which was only called that because it was on a 64-bit system!!!!:nono:
I know it's boring for Nintendo to be like Sony and Microsoft but the one thing that Playstation and Xbox have is brand quality. People won't call it a 360 in a year or so, it will just be an Xbox again. I would like for it to just be called Nintendo.

They need a cool name that is not the company name. So people can see how cool they are?

n5 sounds cool but revolution is not ment to be just anouther console, bluewave is allright but doesn't sound quite as good as n5. hopefully the name is short and it doesn't scream kiddy like gamebox, gamecube.

all these recent names suck guys! the N5 is very unoriginal. its like people have said, it will be something to do with what the system does.
Gamecube - cube
N64 - 64 bit
snes+nes - entertainment systems the first of their kind
nintendo DS - dual screen
gameboy - for boys?! (this is an exception)
