Good games before nando...2-0 to me, then 2-2 and a penalty win to yourself... I loved Utaka's early goal in the second game, amazing run... Your second goal caught me off guard I had barely woken up from half time... Definitly starting to feel more confident soaking up pressure which has always been the way I played every game you had more posession but in the first game I had more shots...

It really annoys me how when your playing friends it forces you to have penalties whereas in free match it records as a draw...

Anyways I've got to start moving stuff out of my room ready for painting so my Wii will be unplugged...hopefully get it set back up by end of day and be back on for some more games...

Two times against Manolito- one win and one defeat.

The Spanish derby went to him (Real Madrid) on sudden death on penalties. The match ended 4-4 in which he quickly went 3-0/ 3-1 ahead but in the second half I got Messi working and pulled it back to 3-3 before it looked like he'd won it at 4-3. Then at the very end I had a corner and somehow managed to score from it with Henry from a shockingly tight angle! 7-6, I think, after alot of saved, missed and scored pens.

And: we had some lag in this one. Raul just stuttered his way through a few times. When I clicked on him to defend and tackle, he somehow disappeared then reappeared on the other side of my defenders. :(

Spain vs Italy ended 3-1 to Italy and me. Villa put Spain up 1-0 in 3 mins after I tried and failed in walking it outta defense, but after that it was all Italy after I settled. Iaquinta scored a really good solo effort of a goal. : peace:

Anyway, thanks for the games flameboy ..you're definitely a good few games ahead of me! I just can't get a grasp of defending yet and ended up resorting to controlling one man and trying to get a slide tackle in..

Hopefully next time I will be playing a bit better!

Seriously though, there was a bit of lag here and there, no way near as bad as what you get on the DS version mind you.

First match shouldn't have gone to penalties- Harry Kewell was running the show! You did well to get it levelled to 3-3.

I hope you enjoyed el Gran Classico. :heh: ...because that was the laggiest/ buggiest game yet for me. Your players were jerking and glitching about everywhere. One minute I had the ball and was past your defender, and then my player stopped on his own an the ball disappeared from his feet. Only for me to see your man running back up the line with it. :o Were similar things happening for you? Even when you scored (especially the header) it didn't even look like you'd put the ball on target! I was looking for it and then Jon Champion started shouting about "oh what a goal!" Then any time I did go to shoot it fell to Xavi Hernandez (defensive mid-goal predator?!), when I'd rather it would've been wee Leo. :(

Yeah its annoying; no penalties in Free Match but you do against your friends...

I seem to be a good 1st half player but then fall away...

I think I'm gonna have to set up Wii in another room my decorating is taking much longer than expected...

I have played darksnowman a lot and the scorelines just keep swinging back and forth. It is always very tight and could go either way! Yeah I find a lot of my experiences seem to go that way, think I am just getting good and then come crashing back down to earth...

Tight cos I wasn't playing well- that game where you were England was the lowest point... I really couldn't see any openings on the pitch. I'll give you some more later tonight if you want... that dirty Spurs of yours needs a few more beatings!

I've had a couple more games with / nando / and you can never tell which way its gonna go. One of us always crumbles and he's only ahead by one in our series so far. Has anyone else noticed that you get more lag/ glitchiness when its snowy? That seems to be the general rule I've noticed!

Thankfully I havn't witnessed that too much...did just play a game that was a total lag fest though,, lost 5-2... just couldn't do anything...I've changed my settings now...if it means I don't get a game then so bit I'd rather have good connection speed and smooth play...

I had two random games then a game against RedShell... then I went to challenge him again, waited... and got the incident code. Now thats all I seem to get! In the first game I thought it was pretty close even though you eventually won 3-0 but the second game what a mare I had, lost 4-1 with all the goals coming in the second half. I had 2 games with brynpearson earlier and, while I lost both, that wasn't really the story. The lag in the game was awful :hmm: I'm not looking for excuses, fair play to bryn, it was probably the same for him.. but one of his goals went in before it had even registered that he had passed to the striker who put it in!

Also, when he was attacking, his players jumped about all over the place and it was impossible to tell where they truly were :( ..defending was therefore impossible.. and then when I was in attack, I seemed to be in loads of space with noone near me loads of the time and all of a sudden I didn;t have the ball anymore because, somehow, I had been tackled!

It was very frustrating, but fair play to him for coming out on top : peace:

Cheers Stevo - that was the best game I've played so far - what a cracking game. Was a real nailbiter untill the last ten minutes - I'm being patriotic playing as scotland but they are a bit meh lol

As well as playing the Champs League, I had a few games with Cooky, le monstre.

First one was Liverpool v Lyon which I won... 3-2 as Lyon. I scored a decent freekick and it was a good open game... I was looking for tap ins and Cooky was trying his luck with hitting 35 yard lobs, lol.

Then came the big one.

Scotland v PSV. I always used PSV now and again in the old PS2 Pro Evo's cos they were a good fast team who were pretty dangerous... not so tonight. Cooky monstrously went 2-0 up leaving me to try and claw it back for the majority of the match... and finally by the 85th minute, it was all squared at 2-2 and I thought I could sneak a winner. Haha, how naive... cos Scotland had other ideas and walked straight up from kick off and scored a "deflected" goal to seal the 3-2 victory. :(

Next time we meet, Scotland will be trying their luck at containing Brazil! :hehe:

This game is so strange..

Yesterday it was 17-13 to darksnowman in games before we started playing last night. I gave him a tight game but ended up losing on penalties (quite a long shoot-out) meaning it was 18-13. The fact was that this was his seventh win in a row and he was pulling away from me quite drastically.

However, when we played again, I put my inability to take my chances (due to poor finishing) to one side, defended a lot better and finally got a game back! After the end of play last night, it is now 18-17 after I won four on the bounce..

It's madness..

I really need to play some more of you though as I don't know what to expect going into the league..

Yeah I hit a losing streak last night.

Cooky beat me 1-0, Dazzybee beat me 1-0... then nando notched up a few wins against me. All in all, it was a poor night for it so I was all the more lucky to get through in the Champs League!

I just had a couple of random games online there before I head out..

The first game was Arsenal v Liverpool (very appropriate at the moment..) and I took an early 2-0 lead with Liverpool before being brought back to 2-1 by the Gunners. After Half-Time, I was put under pressure the entire 45 minutes, it was insane.. though I did manage to get a few chances of my own whilst trying to keep this other guy out! I managed to hold it togeter til the 88th minute before the pressure told and I was pegged back to 2-2. As stoppage time drew to a close, I made a great attack and cooly finished with a torres tap in.. I think I broke the other boys heart :heh:

The second game I played was against Bayern Munich.. and the guy was clearly no mug, but everything clicked for me in that game. Liverpool were rampant! A few days ago I was having trouble putting the ball into the net on a consistent basis, but have a look at this screen.. talk about clinical : peace:

There are actually some decent ppl online (and plenty of them). Scary. I've yet to have a disconnector (phew!) and I've had some brilliantly tense games.

FTR, I've finally sussed how to defend properly - meaning I've not shipped more than 2 goals against me. YET!

I've only got 2ppl registered to me so far. Does this mean its like Smash Bros meaning it only actually registers when you're BOTH online? Strange option.

IMMENSE game though. Truly awe-inspsiringly next-gen.

Just had a 6-3 defeat by Dazzybee. Hmm not so good either, but he played some great diagonal balls and I just wasn't getting them myself. His goal to go 2-1 up was really good too- a cross that was tapped in, I have no idea how he got a man free for the tap in, but it was impressive.

Edit: And a random Italy 2:1 Portugal. The Portuguese will likely feel they should have won it, and they probably did have the better of the play, but I contained them and got a couple of goals with a nicely played one from Pippo to win it, phew.

I just have the standard cable that came with the Wii going into the SCART socket on the back of my TV..

I haven't read the manual, but I was thinking maybe it was something to do with the Camera Type you use in the game? I imagine most people use Type 1 but mine is set to Type 2.. Would that affect anything?

Nah apparently its the settings of the TV...because when it searches for random it only looks for people with the same TV settings...

no point defending, its all attack attack attack! won all my online matchest sof far, 4-1 was the latest. i think people striggle with pacy attack and playing wide before switching to centre.

Had a couple versus / nando / last night. First time it was Roma v Liverpool and my Wii crashed when I scored - not a connection problem, the Wii just died. It sounded like it was trying to eat the disc up until I scored, then it packed it in when I did. We replayed that match and I won, then we did Juve v Liverpool which he won. It was a weird match because I never felt in control of my players.

After that I played Pinilla twice and we finished neither match. In the first one I was just one nil up at half time and ready for the second half, the timer ran down and... lost connection with player. I went back in, we restarted another match... his player walked up from kick off, around his keeper and into the goal... with the ball. Lost connection with player again. The hour was late and bed was needed so I didn't try for a third time. :zzz:

Yea, I know, it was weird. Connection went down twice. One was at half time and the other at kick off. I didn't want you to think that I gave up the first match just because I was losing (I hate when people do that!)

Maaaaaan, I thought I was getting better but my defending must be all over the place. Playing online is the best way to improve but it's soul crushingly high-scoringly painful at times. I was 6-1 down in the 1st half against some geezer! (I was playing Barca and was Liverpool). They were well taken goals too...carved open my defense !!

Anyhoo, second half and I get it back to 6-5 and then BAM...Barca get two goals in two attacks. Whenever a player went on a run (Henry mainly) my defenders just couldn't get a boot in. Wholly frustrating! I still maintain that defending is an art form...it's just online adds a whole new paradigm of difficulty.

It's been a while since the last time I came here! I'm happy to see this is still running.

Just to let everyone know, I went to the dark side of the force: I bought FIFA 09 for the Wii and I have to say that it's REALLY good! The graphics were quite disapointing first but then I was impressed by the gameplay, manager mode but, most of all, THE ONLINE MODE!!! I've never had a single delay in the game, there are loadz of options and it's really well made, with a world ranking system and a message board and all that. I strongly reccomend, especially if you guys like to play online.

Anyway... unfortunately, I don't think I'll be turning Pro Evo back on, so, good luck with the thread and good bye!

I would say get it. Its worth £15 to get a few months play out of it and prep you for 09. Ive got pro evo and fifa and fifa pales in comparison. Get it and have some online.

Lag is okay, occassional stutter but still good fun

I'm slowly getting into it, used to playing the "PS2" way.
I cant get to grips with how to defend but attacking wise scoring for fun.

Ive had 3 games online, a 3-2 win where I was 2 nil down at half time and.... 10-1 and 7-1 defeats to Barcelona... he must of had 6 men in attack.

I don't know at the mo. I'll get it and sort it though.

Defending is hard at first, though a surprising amount of depth. The best tactic is to man mark a lot, clik on each of their players, holding Z puts your defenders ahead of them for intercepting, and obviously dragging a player to him means he will man mark (if you don't want the closest player), this works especially well on the wings. Also that however many times you click on their player, thats how many players will man mark.

I personally think its good to manually control one character and time the slide tackles (hard though).

And lastly, dragging a player into space means they will defend that area and stay there; waiting!!

Its pretty nifty. takes a while to get used to but plays really well. The biggest difference is that you have better conrtol of where your players are on the pitch rather than relying on AI. There are issues and im not sure if 09 clears them up but it was an interesting (and atleast in my eyes enjoyable) experience.

..OK guys, the time for the Messi smeared 2009 edition of our beloved drag 'n' drop football fix is almost upon us, and with the apparent new modes and enhancements seemingly in place for PES 2009 there isn't much time left to get in some PES 2008 action before it gets relegated to the basic redundancy of 'The Pile', only to be summoned years from now to reaquaint ourselves with the once soothing sound of the gentle guitar which helped ease you into the online atmosphere, a mere relaxation before the lag-filled nunchuk shaking ahead.. but we loved it (or at least, I did :heh:)

Long sentences aside, tonight could be the night to give PES 2008 a proper send off before we're all in the edit mode of 2009 throwing Robbie Keane back into the white shirt of Tottenham wondering why Konami never bothered updating the teams and why everyone's face looks like it has been destroyed by a tornado of hammers (or, in Gary Neville's case, enhanced)
