Hunters, one of the first Killer Aps for NDS, was suposed to see the daylight shortly after DS launch in US, but it was delayed and, it only reapeared in E3 2005 with a vague release date for Autum 2005, followed by the news that the game would only feature a LAN mode (local area network), therefore not suporting Wi-Fi that was scheduled to take off in October 2005, distancing itself from games who were to take off in the same time-frame such as Mario Kart (http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42) and Tony Hawk: American Sk8land, confirmed for November 2005, as well as Animal Crossing: Wild World (http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113), Super Monkey Ball DS (http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135) and Burnout Legends DS (http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57)? and others shortly after.
Hunters, was (finally) officially delayed till Q1 2006 in 23rd August, shortly followed in the 26th with a official statement were it stated that Metroid DS would be Wi-Fi compatible.
A demo version of it, named "first hunt" was released as a limited edition with the first DS consoles. (note that the US version is not compatible with the european one in multiplayer)
The oficial site for the demo can be found Here:
http://www.metroidhunters.com/firsthunt/
Details like; how many players in LAN it can support are unknown, in the early DS demo it suported 2 to 4 players over a wireless LAN, we dont know if this going to be bumped into 2 to 8 players, or like Mario Kart (http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42) cutted down to support only half of the player possible over WLAN versions.
Shortly after the delay some people were able to put their hands in the Single Player: Trial version of the game in Penny Arcade Expo located at Bellevue, Washington. The participants were presented with 3 new backgrounds for Bounty Hunters featured in the game - Sylux, Trace e Weavel, In adiction to the previously revealed Spire, Noxus and Kanden.
Oficial site for the upcoming game can be found on:

Be sure to watch it because the Single Player version is incredible even better than the multiplayer shown so far, even running on a regular TV it looks good enough, if no one told me I could have though it was running on GC (ok the video quality doesn't help too much), but the Particle effects are volumetric now, the textures are more detailed and varied, the cutscenes are incredibly fluid, this time samus even features reflections in her visor, all this with a smooth framerate without slowdowns, the itens that were 2D sprites before are now in glorious 3D just like their gamecube counterparts, even the in-game model of samus is alike to the simplified metroid prime 1 samus (the simplified one when she was to go into morph ball mode).

Along with Mario Kart, this is the DS game I'm looking forward to the most. Metroid Prime style singleplayer and online multiplayer is what makes this game perfect in my eyes. We should make a Revo-Europe clan for online matches, that would rock!
Mmmm more Samus.
Mmmm portable online multiplayer Samus.
Mmmm stylus control Samus.

Well there's a rumour saying Nintendo is working on a new 2D Metroid called Metroid Dread.
That's not a rumor anymore, IGN said it's offical and they expect Nintendo to reveal it at E3 2006.
MP:H is one of the main reasons I bought a DS. I've been very disapointed by the numorous delays in the game, but I'm glad that they're working their asses off to make it a top quality game.
I know much hasn't been said about the single player adventure, but I think that there wasn't much of one in the first place..and that's the reason for all the delays.
Anyhoo, even if the single player adventure isn't the best Metroid game ever, we still have online multiplayer madness, so this game should deffently be a killer-app.

The game has a FULL single player mode, with cutscenes and all. It'll involve Samus travelling from planet to planet collecting artifacts before the other bounty hunters do. Look at the 1st scan on the right side. That's a cutscene of Samus meeting one of the other bounty hunters.

No... Not anymore, seems like it was canned:We've heard the mysterious 2D Metroid sidescroller for the DS has been canned. More details inside...
The game was never officially announced, but we know it existed. How? Well, back during this year's E3, we
reported on the titles the big N would showcase. Among the list was Metroid Dread, though in the end, it never appeared.
The E3 list was most definately genuine, as it was the first time we heard the "Twilight Princess" subtitle for the upcoming Zelda. Rumour was that Metroid Dread would be the sequel to Metroid Fusion, and would contain similar 2D graphics.
Apparently the title was only early in pre-developement, so never made the show. However now we understand the title has been canceled altogether. Still, at least there's Metroid Prime: Hunters to look forward to.Source: http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=21985&postcount=1

I'd never seen the single player up and running, that video looks simply incredible. Confirms that the DS is more powerful than the N64 in the right hands.
This is probably THE game I want the most. As Mario Kart is in sight, that's the one I'm looking forward to right now but I know Metroid is going to be my favourite DS game already. It's one game I'm glad they delayed. The wait is worth it for the online, by far, I just hope they use the extra time to work more on the single player too. The worst part of Prime 2 were the fights between Dark Samus for me, so a single player which pits players against computer controlled opponents doesn't sound appealing to me. I'd rather have monsters. Although as long as there are both it will be cool.
Also, PLEASE add online chat into Metroid DS! That's a big thing missing in Mario Kart for me :(

That's a big thing missing in Mario Kart for me :(yhe problem is that it seems to me that the mic in DS is not very good, in terms of quality, it fits well enough for nintendogs and other games, but not aswell for "Voice over IP" I believe we would have to use an external microfone for it.
I think it'll be implemented over time, but still DS's mic may not be enough

Could have a small pictochat type thing on it so you can taunt your oponents(sp?) yet obviously this couldn't be used during the game. They could have a thing like in FTM where you can record a snippet of something and when you kill someone that gets played to them, which would be quite cool
Oh by the way, any mods here, I think this thread should be stickied!
the opening post's scan of the mag says taht there is a six player battle mode! (translated from the japanese)

Yeah, I meant like Pictochat. I thought it would be great just to include an online Pictochat, or at least the type pad before and after games. It could be like arranging a friendly match in space, deciding on the planet, landing and beating the crap out of each other!

Or maybe not, but the the first idea I would love, hope it wan't just to show off the morph ball!!!

I'm kinda glad there's a little money-saving gap between the good games. Recently theres been too many great games that I've wanted.. Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Lost In Blue, Castlevania.. and thats only the DS ones (that have recently been imported by the game store I work at). And now there's Tony Hawk, Mario Kart and Animal Crossing...
Mimternet
20-11-2005, 10:09 PM
With Mario Kart and Animal Crossing out very soon I think I can just about cope with the wait til March especially if the online is going to be implemented well. It NEEDS chat.
This really is going to be the best game on DS until something comes along afterwards. Really hope the single player is packed with content too. Want lots of exploration.

Nintendo hopes that the 6 bounty hunters will become so popular, they get their own spin-off games
If a hunter acquires an artifact during gameplay, you have to track him down to take it (even if it means to go to another world)
In multiplayer mode there will be over 25 maps to choose from
In gameplay there will be at least 5 worlds to travel to
Official game release: March 20th

Keeping Metroid as a First-Person-Adventure game.
I mean the spinoff doesn't even need to be called ANYTHING Metroid, I'm all for it.

Personally I would love to see a spin-off with those characters. Most of them sound really cool (nice background info + weapons & look), so I think a game starring those 6 characters, each with it's own storyline and a few levels (they could even cross paths with Samus at a certain point) would be really cool.
I don't mean a whole series of spin-offs to milk the franchise, I mean a single game with several segments, one for each of the characters. It would give more depth to the characters and the "universe" of the series.
Am I the only one who would love to have a game in which you would control a character like Kanden, and learn more about him?
I would rather have something like this than a pinball game, but that's just me...

Also according to ds-x2, from the same source:
1. Metroid Prime Hunters will have 5 different planets, and at least 25 different areas.
2. Weavel can split his body into two sections, one of which is a stationary automatic gun battery. It fires at anyone in the way of the mobile section.
3. Each bounty hunter will have his or her own ship. Designs will reflect similarities to the each bounty hunter's armor structure.

I don´t believe so...
I have my doubts about NST but I heard Nintendo recently hired some people from studios like EA, Rockstar and Sony CE to NST so maybe it´s getting better. And over two years of development time for a hadheld game should be more than enough.
And I´m pretty sure Retro has helped NST at least on some level. I know for sure that creatures and new bounty hunters are designed by Retro´s artists.
Well, it looks and sounds awesome so I´m not complaining... :)

What a weird sentence. First of all, isn't moving an action? And second, can't I use the

A spinoff starring the new characters could be what Nintendo needs. It worked with that Donkey Kong spinoff, didn't it? What was that called? I think it was Mario Bros or something wierd like that...

If there is an 8 character, then you can have 8 player mulitplayer! That is also enough for team games like teamKOTH,CTF,and TDM. Hopefully it will also be 8p online.
Btw were did the thing about 25 maps come from?

seems like so far there's 25 maps to choose from (maybe more to come) and theres 5 separate worlds.
also seems like the release date is 20th march.
also, I didn't learn from the news here in this forum, but theres a thread that gave the news for it here:

Good job to bump the thread back up pedro, people needed to be reminded that there is an official thread for MPH as otherwise there could be lots of threads made for it.
Every time I hear more or see more about the game I'm more and more excited. I feared the main adventure was going to lack depth but I no longer do, it sounds pretty epic, and Nintendo have sure spent a lot of time developing it. The graphics are fantastic for DS, and WFC....thats going to be immense.
And for people who need reminding how good this looks in motion:
http://streamingmovies.ign.com/ds/article/664/664419/metroidhigh_wmvlow.wmv
A message to everyone: If you can please try and post all new info, pics and videos in this thread here. It'll be stickied closer to release.
..and I doubt it'll be out March 20th in Europe, thats the US date.
PS: I changed the title, sounds and looks better in my eyes, but if you would rather it was like normal please say so and I'll change it back

I also had those doubts, the metroid demo included in the first DS's was good, but it was like "look the DS can make 3D" nothing compared to the game we have now. thankfully they also understood that this game was needed as it's shaping up to be.
Games like nintendogs and others are like concepts, they are good, but a normal gamer wouldn't buy them, metroid hunters is clearly a system seller for the masses of "normal gamers" and a clear step in the right direction to please them.
I just can't imagine how epic will this game be, it seems breathtaking, this should give a boost to the FPS genre in the console, and FPS's are really system sellers right now, with gears of war, halo and killzone 2 being the bet of the industry to sell the next gen consoles. (although is is a first person adventure :P)

AFAIK you tap the screen to jump.. at least that's how it was in the demo right? this wouldn't be such an issue in a normal FPS but the 3d iterations of the metroid series do involve alot of jumping and platforming.. which i understand is very tough to do with the "tap to jump" mechanism.. here's hoping they sort this out by march 20th!

Calm down! NOE have not given a date for MP:H Play are just picking a date at random. So no it is not delayed as there is no date. Hopefully sometime this month NOE will give out a new release list.
Well it never had a firm release date in the UK anyway, did it? After Nintendo's recent DS delays, nothing would surprise me any more. I'd like to hear their excuse for delaying Metroid Pinball so long, though.
Now I'm just waiting for them to put Wario Ware Twisted back again...

well there wasnt actualy a confirmation of a EU release, the Wifi site, only copies info from the US one, so the date for the game which is 20th march on US site, will just be copied onto the UK one.

Agreed. What also gets on my nerves is that many PAL games must be translated into multible languages both in game and in the instruction book.
Takes time and is totally unnecessary.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind a short delay if the spelling did get changed to British English, but most of the time we have to wait, and we still get American English in UK games. I'm playing the PAL version of Pokémon XD at the moment, and it's still in American English.

What is the differnce between american english and UK english.(i'm an american)
Not a huge difference, but enough to make it annoying (for me, at least) to read American English in Nintendo games when we've waited months for them to be released over here. We spell some words differently to you (e.g. colour, humour, metre, centre, axe), we use some words that you don't (and vice versa), and we use some words / phrases in different ways (e.g. 'I've got' instead of 'I have', 'Have you done it yet?' instead of 'Did you do it yet?').

Heres my theory guys, Europe will get the game either in August or September! It won't be delayed again, i'm pretty sure this game was meant to come out earlier but they needed more time for the single-player (which i want the most). That's some sexy box art!, much better than the bland demo box art.
Personally, I reckon that the game will come out in March on the same day as Tetris DS and ACWw. That way Nintendo can advertise the games together as well as NWFC, four adverts for the price of one!
Besides, lets be honest here, there's not gonna be a lot of text in the game and Nintendo have been very good with Metroid releases thus far, with games coming out around a week or so after the US. I think a March release is fairly likely, "Nintendo WiFi Connection Month" is gonna happen!

I'm not that excited about Hunters but another delay would be quite annoying but I could understand it since it will need a lot of balancing to hunt them around the Galaxy with increasing difficulty but yet to be able to complete every world at any point of the game. (not having certain technology yet).
Another thing about the localization. I think the other languages take so long to be translated because they translate it from Japanese - it's only a suspicion that rose after I watched an english Zelda flash movie where it said Saria (that Kokiri girl) and in the german version of the game she was called Salia.
A similar mistake was that in the original Zelda were Zolas but in OOT they were called Zoras. It has something to do with Japanese not having any "r" or something like this, I'm not sure.
well, in japanese its quite hard to distinguish from 'r' and 'l' and many english speaking japanese will probably say an 'r' instead of an 'l' becuase it can be hard for them to pronounce this sound. the same with some 'b's and 'v's.
take metroid for example, what we know as the "varia" suit was actually meant to be "baria" (as in barrier) but a mistranslation occured because the sounds are similar.

And I agree the fact that Pinball is out after Hunters is absurd. There’s no way now that game can enjoy the sales it could have done by releasing it before Hunters.

after playing the full version today, i can confirm that metroid prime hunters is out in may 5th in europe.
it was friggin awesome. online mode has 4 modes. same like mk, except friends and rivals are put together for some reason.
Apparently it only allows for 4 player battles online? Did you find out if this is true there?
If it is the case, then again it's a wasted opportunity and a stupid decision. (unless the hardware has reached its limit with the amount of character models on screen at once)
I've preordered USA copies of this game anyway, but the UK release date is miles to long after the USA one in my opinion. :indeed:
I may buy the UK version of Metroid Pinball if i have any spare cash (which i probably won't), purely because i'm not anywhere near excited about then i am Hunters...

Yeah, you missed it! But there are a few dates on there that need altering.....I'll try and do that this week.
I think I may go down the same road as you Owen and import MPH, but this may all depend on how in-depth the single-player is.
I'm currently getting really bored with Animal Crossing, as I just haven't got the schedule to appreciate the morning going-ons in my town, which is usually when the important things happen. I only finally get time to check out my town once I go to bed, which is when I'll play on it for 15mins or so. Prob going to ebay it in a week or two.
Anyway, I've been really looking forward to MPH since I got my hands on the demo ages ago. It should turn out really good hopefully.

www.jeux-france.com (translation)
Metroid Prime Hunters will introduce 6 new hunters: Noxus, Whorl, Kanden, Sylux, Weavel and Trace. These hunters of premiums will have all their own characteristics, Kanden for example will be able to be transformed into caterpillar, Spire as for him will be able to change into stone ball in fusion with spades to crush its enemies. The play starts with a very impressive kinematic sequence which introduces the 6 new warriors like Samus Aran fighting a monster coriace in a decoration of desert, one could thus see the heroin of the play dodging the attacks of its enemy and using his gun in the airs to come from there to end.
On the level of the gameplay, Samus Aran is rather simple to control. The higher screen of the console is used here to post the action and the touch screen plays the part of a control panel. The player will be able to change the field of vision of heroin with the stylet directly on the touch screen, to move with the directional cross, and to draw with the button L the touch screen will be also used for possibly changing weapons, to transform themselves into ball, to jump on platforms, and scanner of the precise elements of the decorations to open doors. The handiness is with final rather fluid and the catch in fast hand.
Graphics of the play seem to have known a light improvement compared to the demonstration and the musics accentuate really the intensity of the action.
The multijoueurs mode is rather interesting since it comprises several options of play: Battle, Survival, Bounty, Defender, Hunter Premium, Capture and Nodes. The player will be able thus to choose between the 7 characters available and to play with 3 ami(e)s simultaneously (or with the Club-footed ones). We unfortunately did not have the occasion to test the play on line.

Do you mean the default control method? Don't see why not, as it was a pretty good way of controlling the character for both lefties and righties and allowed for great aiming. There are other control methods anyway. :)

as fierce has said, ive played the final code, feel free to ask any questionsthen... how is the single player experience, specially compared to metroid prime 1 and 2 on GC, impressions please.
And multiplayer? if you could brand it like another shooter would you brand it: quake 3, perfect dark, unreal (or other?)
The AI on bots? is it good?
The controls? do they fare better than metroid prime (even when metroid ds lacks lock up)? and when next to other console shooters?
are the graphics as good as they appear in these last pictures? how would you rate them in action? "Psone, N64, Dreamcast or Gamecube graphics (you can say something like between PSone and N64)
that should be my questions, and I'm already pushing it :)

right, i made a nice lenghty post, but the pc froze, and its all gone, so ill make it short, the graphics have improved greatly. they are awesome and there is no slowdown and runs at 60fps.
the game is a fps, no doubt, it is THE goldeneye for the ds.
the controls are the same, but they have been refined, jumping isnt awkward.
multiplayer is perfect, new weapons = bouncy ball grenade thingy and, something that put me on fire and i couldnt put it out.
online is the same as mario kart, worldwide and regional are on one side, and rivals and friends on the other, dunno why they are seperated.
i didnt get much singl player time, but i played 1 min and it was a bit of explore and stuff. ai was some bugs, but im sure there are proper examples somewhere.
u can choose what planet u go to as a level select.
i got some audio clip of the music, but its a bit shit qualitythat's incredible  to compare it to goldeneye on DS now you really done it :D this is gonna be ace, I was thinking it was something along the lines of a PC shooter multiplayer on DS, so...
Also 60 frames and running smooth... I never even thought it would be possible as the original ran at about 40/45 fps and had that much detail already, I thought they were now locked at 30 frames ans I was already surprised at the graphics, I'm completly stunned, and thrilled to see what other games in the future will look like (Zelda).
This game is looking better and better :D

I was wondering how many weapons they are and what weapons are included in the game.
We already know there are
1 Sniper Rifle
2 Charge beam (obvious)
3 Weavel use his sword (probable)
4 Spire uses those hot grenade things
5 Noxus might use that purple beam stream gun that bounces off walls
6 Trace uses that red one
Not sure about others but I reckon there will be 10 weapons overall.
May we all remember that these all have primary and secondary functions!

Viewtiful Joe doesn't have a multiplayer (if it does, it's news to me).
It looks pretty similar to the Gamecube versions! Yes on a DS! I suppose it would look like a N64 version of Viewtiful Joe, anyway the graphics rock!
It seems a little easier to play (which is good for me).
and uses the touch-screen for certain puzzles etc.. which are really cool! Controls are easy as well.
It uses both screens as well, so if you jump up you'll go to the top screen! often you need to look at the top screen and do something on the bottom screen.
Overall i'm not a huge fan of the GC ones, i have no-idea why, but my god it works well on a DS.
One of the best DS games out there in my opinion (theres quite a few now though ain't there? GO DS!).

Yea without so much backtracking,so annoying when you back track and then die,all over again
Owen, why would you need voice chat over local wireless... you're probably gunna be sitting right next to each other.
No, not always. My bro normally plays in his bedroom while i'm in the living room. which is right under his bedroom.
I could say like: 'Dinners Ready' or something without having to shout or get up and walk upstairs!
I'm not lazy honest. :D

What is this 'Lobby' like ,will it be possible to meet up with one of your friends and verse another 2 people so 2 vs 2 death match without the voice chat
Being Nintendo, I highly doubt they'll have thought of that, they've played it on Nintendowifi.com and didn't mention anything like that...

you can kinda do this in mario kart using the friends roster you simply lock your friends and they must lock you also in the roster then go to a world wide match as long as they are searching at the same time you should be abble to get your friends in the same game and the rest will be filed by other random people.
so it may be possible.

There's only so much you can do with a handheld metroid prime.
It's just the expected average size of a pretty big game on DS.
Yenrug has just stated that USA import copies of the game, WILL NOT work in Europe over WI-FI. (the game works on any DS of course, but WI-FI only for your country).
Thats a HUGE blow to anyone who wanted to import it specifically to play it over WI-FI as well. That means if you had your heart set on playing online you have to wait for a UK copy!
I'm off to double-check that i read Yenrug's post correctly. This is obviously quite dissapointing news for some of you.
:hmm:
This is what he stated and i doubt his lying:
NoE have stated that imported copies of Metroid Prime: Hunters will not work on WiFi in Europe, apparently they're having to work out some licensing difficulties regarding the voice chat function which is the cause of the delay. Simple fact is, if you want to play MPH online in Europe, you have to buy it here.
