Every role she has should have the title:
"Talentless bitch whose lips don't meet."

She is great in Lost in Translation as Charlotte. Great film that also stars the other great Murray of our time... not the Eevil one, but Bill.

I've seen her in a few films — [i]Lost In Translation, Ghost World, Girl With A Pearl Earring — and she never seems to have much character. She's like a female Keanu Reeves.

Awesome as Bill Murray is [Actually just finished watching Groundhog's Day] but even he couldn't save that boring shit fest that was Lost In Translation.

Finally! Another person who doesn't like that movie either!
Seriously I thought it was extremely boring. So boring I've already forgotten what happens in it.

Given ReZ's previous posts in the film thread he wouldnt like Lost In Translation. It's a great move though, and Scarlet has been average at best in every other film ive seen her in.

I tried giving it a chance. It made all the critics jizz, it had the Murray in, it was worth a look in. I couldn't watch it all the way to the end because it just wasn't going anywhere.

You haven't. Nothing happens.
I quite liked Lost In Translation. It does a good job of capturing the setting and can be quite funny, but it's a bit too... loose for my liking. I can see why people like it, but one viewing was enough for me.
I think it accomplishes what it set out to, but that isn't what I want from a movie.

I haven't seen a film with her in! :)
So i don't know whether she is any good or not!
I'd watch Lost in Translation but i know my attention span is short and i probably wouldn't get the point of the movie!

....... The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
That movie was awesome.
I loved Ghost World, and I laughed everytime I heard her voice (metaphorically). Really deep for no reason. I have no idea if that's her real voice, or not, but I'm sure she's on some make-up commercial and it's higher.
I suppose she's not meant to have much character in Ghost World though.

Must I interpret this as "short attention span" or just idiocy?
Lost in Translation is definitely an over rated film, Its in no way bad, which is surprising since that talentless moron Sophia Coppola directed it. Its a film where you can't criticise anyone either way for liking it or not, unless you're trying to fail sounding like a smart arse, because its meaning is on a very personal level. Personally what it does is nothing new for me, I've seen European and some fantastic Korean/Japanese films tackle the same topic much more competently.

Neither, thank you very much.
I watched it all the way through and felt like I had wasted my precious time, which I could've spent on more interesting and productive things. The film was boring and did nothing for me.

Well since I buckled 30 mins towards the end you can chalk it up to short attention span. If you "Must".
However I'm going to interpret it as "100% fucking boring". To be honest I surprised myself by making myself watching more, fooling myself in the hope that something interesting might happen.

I didn't really 'get' LiT, i guess for me, the meaning was 'lost in translation' aAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
ahem.
But yeah, not a great film for me, and I don't really see the raving about Scarlett Johansson either, not my kind of girl. I don't think I've seen anything else with her in, but I know a fair few people who talk about her like she's some sort of angel on earth. Plus, the arse in the opening shot of LiT isn't really hers, it's very clever editing.

Not to be too obvious but she was cast into roles that already had no character name, it wasn't that the directors chose to remove her name after she was involved. Surely.

Ok... so am I to assume you did not understand what the movie set out to do?
Because unless you didn't get it, I see no reason to call it a waste or boring... And to say it isn't interesting, that's like denying existence. Maybe you didn't understand it, but let's not start throwing false accusations around. :heh:

What do you expect me to say to that? A movie wich actually has something to say, for a change, is 100% boring, in your book?
Maybe "short attention span" was wrong.

I do think I know what it's about: feeling lost in the way your life is going, your future, lost in a city where you don't know the language and culture. Forming a friendship with someone who is in the same boat as you, a friendship bordering on a romance. It's about the culture shock, the difference between the US (or West) and Japan. And more of that stuff.
I get what the movie is trying to say, but I just didn't like it. I was watching it on a tiny tv, sitting on a very uncomfortable chair, hoping for it to end soon so I could go to bed or work for school (I was "forced" to watch it by a friend and her boyfriend).
Also again, I felt this movie was overrated, though I knew before watching it that I probably wouldn't like it much anyway.

It's a shame that you people don't like it. For me it's a very beautiful film and I think that the acting is perfect because it is understated. They are such an unlikely pair and I love how they play in the grey area between friends and more.
Must admit that I share Oxigen's view though, I find it hard to understand how you didn't enjoy it but if you didn't, you didn't. And that line about "nothing happens" is crap, plenty happens between the characters emotionally and in the sub-text. The film deals with so many subjects all at once! Action/thriller flicks may be more your bag Murray.

I remember trying to watch it on the plane to/from NY, and I managed to fall asleep a grand total of 3 times whilst trying to watch it, on 3 seperate occasions! I gotta say, that didn't bode well for it for me, but I finally saw it back in the UK, and while I'm not saying it isn't good or well made, it just wasnt really for me at the time. I think you need to be in a certain kind of mood or place when you see it.

Of course I respect your feelings toward it, but... seriously, the movie illustrates human affection like no other thing has ever done. I just get baffled by how much it manages to say, without saying much.
