yep retro RPG's.
in my opinion the retro RPG's were the best and there have not been a single game on this generation consoles that has beaten the SNES and other retro consoles IMO. The best example are.
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy 6
so really this thread is mostly were you talk about the good times of retro RPG's.

My favorite snes rpg's:
- Secret of mana 1 & 2
- Secret of evermore
- Zelda
- Super Mario RPG
- Terranigma
- FF VI (III in U.S.)
- Chrono Trigger
My favorite RPG, allthough not very retro IMO would be FFVII. I wouldn't mind buying a remake of the game.

Best Snes RPG was Tales of Phantasia followed closely by Chrono trigger and FFVI.
- FF VI (III in U.S.) I thought FFIII was the Japanese famicom game never released in the US until its remake as FFVI for the SNES?

Grandia definitely

Xenogears has the best RPG storyline ever no question.

Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI as well as Final Fantasy VII or course.
I thought I might as well put screenshots to make the thread a little more interesting.

i forgot all about Tales of Phantasia, that was a really good game, i am currently playing it right now from time to time.
and with FF3, in America final fantasy VI became number 3 because they never released number 3 on the NES in America.
so yeah it's really confusing, but now that they are releasing number 3 on the DS it won't get so confusing

That´s exactly my opinion. The RPG´s and Adventure games on the SNES are the best games of its kind and that´s why the SNES is my all-time favourite console since RPG´s and Adventure games (Zelda style) are my favourite genre.
Some of my favourites:
Lufia 1 & 2
Breath of Fire 1 & 2
Final Fantasy III (or VI)
Chrono Trigger
Adventure games:
Zelda 3 - A link to the past
Secret of Mana (I consider this to be an adventure game rather than a RPG)
Lagoon
Illusion of Time
Pit-Jr

The best example are.
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy 6
That pretty much covers my top 3, with FF6 on top. When placed side by side, FF6 beats the pants off FF7 in terms of story, battle system (lighting quick, no load times, even had limit breaks), character development and cleaner graphics.
Other good ones are Shadowrun, Secret of Evermore, and Dragon Warrior 5

.
They're both on Playstation. Grandia came out on Saturn in Japan too.
To explain THAT story would be impossible for me, seriously. It's plot is similar in madness to Killer 7 and it's made by Squaresoft.

Interesting. So i have to play it to find out. Was there any other Xenogears? Because its being released on PSP so it leads me to believe there may be more than one?
And it had a pal release yes?

Yeah there's Xeno games on PS2 as well, you can get Xenogears off the internet if you can't find it, It didn't get a Pal release unfortunately so I played it on an emulator.
I got it by illegal means because it's brilliant and Europe didn't even get it.

I haven't played any as I don't have retro consoles :red:
Didn't get into gaming till GB/GBA/Gamecube, and when NES,SNES etc were out I was pretty young. I always wanted a N64 but never ended up getting one.
Good news guys if you didn't know. TALES OF PHANTASIA IS COMING TO EUROPE ON GBA!! March 31st :hehe:

Phantasia is probably going to be toned down for the kiddies, in the ship the girl on the broom (forgot her name) fantasises about having sex with Cless in her sleep, when you knock on a certain door you hear a woman shout "Quick it's my husband, put your pants on!" oh and womem and children get murdered frequently.
Dejap confirmed that was exactly the content when the translated it.
I have no idea what was going through Namco's minds at the time, it didn't get a US release because of how controversial it was.

Suikoden II that is all that is needed to be said, one of the best JRPGs around. ^_^
Agree about shadowrun, really good different type of game. Scret of mana has to be the best though. ( I dont count zelda 3 as an rpg)
I saw secret of mana in gamestation the other day for 60 quid, i was really tempted to buy it, but in the end i thought it was too much to pay. secret of evermore was also 30 quid. When I get more money ( donations accepted people) I may buy both.

That's a STUPID idea!!! Those kind of jokes and such are funny!! They could have just given it an 'M' rating there and a 15 here

My favourite old RPGs are Illusion of Time and Terranigma. The SNES FF titles really don't do it for me (I have them on PSone), but FFVII was the turning point in the series for me, I finally found a Squaresoft title I actually wanted to finish with that game. Shame FFVIII was so bad.
I didn't like Secret of Mana half as much as Evermore, either. Evermore had a more interesting story, I think. At least for a *thinks* early teenager. Yeah, it was 1996 wasn't it? I would've been about 13 then. Evermore was about the perfect game for me back then.
I liked SMRPG, even though it was US only. I thought the way new characters were made and the plot twists were great! :D

Then they cutted the opening Song; damn them.
I do think the gba version will indeed be toned down, in jokes like "girl X is good, but I bet Y fucks like a tiger", most likely they'll also cut the opening song, the highlights is that this version uses the PSone remake sprites and I think, has one extra playable character that was available in the PSone version, and not in the original SNES one.
still, I played both the original versions in japanese and I tend to like the original SNES one better appart from the Full Motion Videos of course.

and with FFVIII i think the game got really boring on the third disk i nearly finished disk three but i couldn't be stuffed playing it anymore, mabey it was because i had brought Harvest Moon
I played Evermore, but i didn't get far in it so i gave up in it, and it was very early in the game, and also couldn't get in the game.
