Warhawk for the PlayStation 3 is a remake of a flight combat game of the same name which was released as a launch title on the original PlayStation. The remake is multiplayer-only, with the ability to take control of planes, tanks, and jeeps. Though the game was initially to have both single-player and multiplayer modes, the single-player was scrapped because developers decided that it was vastly inferior to the game's multiplayer component, while also having problems with mixing AI and such large maps. This is the first PlayStation 3 game to be released on both the PlayStation Network and Blu-ray disc.

Me and Caris have been playing this for hours on end and, to be honest it can match or excell any expierence on the Xbox 360 platform this holiday season.

We would both insist that everyone on N-Europe should get this - even bought off the network, so that we can have friendly games. We can create our own server with password, and there are plenty of people now to have excellent games.

Only the person that bought the game can play it, other profiles on the same PS3 cannot. The disc version isn't locked to a profile and is playable by anyone.

For me this isn't an issue as I'm the only one that's ever going to play it anyway, but if you've siblings or whatever that would like to play the game using their own profile then get the Blu-Ray version, as otherwise they'll have to use yours.

I find it very difficult to get a lock sometimes when it comes to flying/on foot.

Just had blast on this and I still cant get the hang of flying a jet/plane/whatever properly. I think I got 2 kills in my first game and then in my 2nd game I was doing quite well ( stayed on the ground this time ) when my freaking PS3 signed me out. Im sick of this problem and I havent a clue how to fix it. I can still access the net but I get signed out randomly from the PSN.

If I can get on I will probably have a game at 8 with you lot.

I had some great Top Gun style dogfights, finally getting used to it now. Also Chriz + Air Mines=Lethal!

And on that canyon type map, you always running down to the base we had under control, with me in that missle launcher, I could NEVER kill you with it, and you just kept getting closer and closer!

And I remember getting owned by Patroits land mines, when I was going down into the bunker for cover... I was not pleased :heh:

Me and Dom were playing a for a few hours last night using Windows Live Messenger for voice chat.

Its so much fun sometimes. I'm getting crazy good dodging most things in the Warhawk, i'm good in the tank as always and getting better on foot too!

Yeh it's avalible on the store for £19.99. Quite hard to get the knack of but once you start learning all is good :)

I got over 'swirling around aimlessly' once I realised that you are just meant to only move the sticks if you plan to go up or down...still really hard though. I managed to work out how to evade missiles though...right stick.

But yeh, I'd like to play some people here, even though I'm a bit crap. Anyone up for a game?

Use chaff for evading missiles. The white sprinkles.

The problem is, switching to them quickly when concentrating on firing missiles can be hard. Any good tips to always evade missile lock ons the natural way?

I usually do fast sideways rolls to avoid lock-ons.

Real Men™ use Pro Flight. However, if you don't fall into the latter category then flailing about on the right stick should break missile locks; do loops whilst barrel rolling for maximum annoyance.

Personally I much prefer Pro as it feels more controlled plus it allows you to fly upside down and other such tomfoolery, but in general it's harder to lose an enemy's bead as you can't rely on the canned manoeuvres on the right stick. As such chaff is your best friend, and flying underneath bridges and between buildings becomes a useful skill to master.

Controls are really annoying. I want the right way when I'm in hover mode and in flight mode I want the up and down inverted.

All the official servers have rank requirements which should mean new players won't end up against those who've clocked hundreds of hours on the game. However, there isn't a tutorial and you will die a lot to begin with.

My advice to beginners would be to set up a local offline game so that you can get the hang of the controls and a feel for some of the maps instead of jumping straight into a real match. Knowing where weapons are can be a huge advantage, and it's quite hard to learn to fly if you're constantly being shot at.

When you are ready to go online I'd suggest getting in on the official 32-player servers — SCE servers have blue names. It might seem odd to start with the biggest map layouts, but my rationale is that the more players there are the easier it is for you to go and do your own thing.

Some other quick tips: When you die the camera will zoom in on your killer; this can be very useful for avoiding snipers. Learn to listen out for the sound of mines, and if needs be bounce a grenade around corners to clear places out of your line of sight. The knife — down on the d-pad — is an instant kill; it also makes you harder to track on your enemies' radar.

thanks thats a real good little right up. I've been playing Team Fortress alot but its quite limited with few maps and fixed match types...so can myself getting something else for online play and all of my PS3 friends always seem to be playing Warhawk at some time or another...
