An example of modern holograph technology - Way cool!

Some of you may remember this from the cube-europe tech boards, or at least that's where I think I discovered it :) Aaaaanyways, it shows some pretty neat holographic stuff for commercial and business use. I must point out I don't think it's in 3D, although the cheoptics360 sure looks like it.

Edit - By the way, I was just listening to the Revolution Report #10 podcast of some guys at ign and one of them mentioned that Steven Spielberg patented his new fantastic way to immerse the viewer. I'm guessing they're talking about the amazing 3d stuff that "a famous videogame company" was going to implement in 2006 before the movie industry could, remember? So if he patented it, he pretty much kills that rumour.

Seriously cool, watching the holo-girl undress was the highlight of the day. Though I think VR will be more popular. With holographic projection, you will still see it as a screen sort of. But with a VR set, you can look around everywhere, and move inside the picture.

I've seen this kind of tech years ago, in London, was being used in an arcade game. Basically there's a parabolic mirror and the image is projected into the bottom of it, the mirror then refocuses it so that the image appears to be floating in the air. The trick with this Cheoptics 360 system is that they've got 4 mirrors set up and the renderer projects the 4 viewing directions of the rendered object into the relevant mirror, thus allowing you to view the item from all 4 sides; note how there's a "screen" placed at each corner, this stops you from seeing the projected image from more than 1 mirror at a time.

But Yen-Rug, didn't you see the movie with the dancers? Or the Diesel girl fitting clothes? That was done with only a projector, no mirrors.

The projector will be using a parabolic mirror still, it's the only thing that can focus the image to appear in the air this way.

The 360 degree display thing they had looks absolutely awesome.
Maybe we'l see more of this in the future?

maybe the revolution uses a parabolic projector then, remember that patent ages ago, speculation was that nintendo were releasing a eyetoy clone? well that picture (from what I remember) could have been a projector...
iwata did say we would say "wow" when we saw the graphics...

It's going to be happening with movies. I've heard that Lucas is dead excited about 3D technology for films and had the who's who of directors over to his ranch to check out new 3D cinema without 3D glasses. I'm guessing this is it.
I'm pretty sure lucas is going to make a film using this technology as well as James Cameron. Ain't It Cool News reported on it ages ago. I think it would be amazing to see a film presented in this way.
