Looks extremely hot, I'm loving all the RPGs DS is getting. Marvelous are the people behind Harvest Moon I believe.

"Rune Factory is described simply as Harvest Moon where you carry a sword, placing the player in a fantasy world. The player will be able to capture monsters, raise them on your farm, and add them to your party."
Sounds and looks really cool! :) And if I´m not mistaken, Rune Factory was also mentioned to be online game at E3´s DS online game list.

Sure is, I just hope Baten Kaitos DS isn't cancelled :sad:Yeah!
Hopefully with Baten Kaitos 2 being announced for the GC, it's just been put on hold and Tales DS is now being woked on first;
Either that or maybe Baten Kaitos 2 was originally going to be on DS (and being refered to as Baten Kaitos DS), but they decided it should be on GC instead; and so made Tales DS!

ds-x2 is saying its the next harvest moon
"The actual title is Rune Factory: New Harvest Moon, which ties in with it's near PSP release Innocent Life: New Harvest Moon. Rune Factory is described by the producer "Harvest Moon with swords". You will take the role of an adventurer who can capture monsters and raise them on your farm. You can also add the creatures to your party."

Wow, I've just been thinking, its basically like a normal harvest moon game but you leave the farm sometimes to go on an adventure in a big Fantasy world. Sounds like a dream game to me :D Got MASSIVE expectations for this!As long as it doesn't keep the same extremely short day system or expect you to actually still do work on your farm; because that could lead to some extremely short journeys! Just like collecting wood etc... could be a race against time because you had so much else to do before the end of the day!
If it's just a case of raising animals (or whatever), then it'll be cool!

...I'm getting real pissed off with all this, sure we'll get some great RPG's in Christmas 2006 but what about now? We've got bugger all! In Gamestation even the GameCube has 3 more shelves than DS; it has just one. We're getting teased but at the end of the day we've GOT nothing, get off your arse and give us Kirby already Nintendo!
No one will care about the DS anymore in Europe by the time these great games come out...
Oh the game looks great by the way...

This is the problem I had with Animal Crossing and most likely the problem I would have with Harvest Moon, after a while you've really done everything, just becomes a matter of plodding on until you get the last few items. They really need to add in adventure elements, or something. As an example, one year you could suddenly find your animals are being stalked by a rogue wolf, you have to go off and hunt it down. For another, one summer you forget to water one of your fields properly, the ground begins to crack and then one day it collapses revealing a cave, then you could go exploring.

I take it everyone has heard the awesome news about it being online confirmed
Marvelous Interactive & Neverland team up to bring us a different take on the Harvest Moon series and have revealed that it is yet another title that will be going online via Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service. Players will be able to exchange messages with friends and open up a shop to sell items and more, however this is all we know at this time.
Sounds bloody awesome!
I can just imagine looking after my farm, like any other harvest moon, then once i've finished watering my tomato plants I pop out to go on an adventure, and on the way I visit people's shops from around the world! Can't wait :hehe:

this is what harvest moon should have been, going out on adventures, meeting other people, setting up shops, for others to see. imagine a Revo harvest moon, the possibilities, fishing you can use the controller, watering can, hoe, axe, horse reins, washing the animals, teaching your dog some tricks, then going online, into a massive community, of many people, chatting and selling stuff. maybe you could trade cattle.
sorry went off topic, this game is looking awesome, always loved harvest moon.

Harvest Moon is perfect for what it is, but lacks depth because theres no real adventure to it. Add a bit of Golden Sun and voila!
You are calmly harvesting your crops. Suddenly, a Golem raises from your fertile soil while moving to harvest the potatoes, demanding your blood. Scared shitless, you take the first thing from your bag and throw it at the golems head. The item you threw, a tomato, splatters on the golems eyes, blinding it. You thrust a carrot into it's stoney chest and cause an instant KO somehow, and gain 500 exp and 125 gold. You then shrug off what just happened and return to your harvesting, thinking of using that money to buy a gift for the girl you fancy, in hope to gain her love. 'Cos it sure beats giving her that wild mushroom you picked off the floor (which heals a sweet 100HP).
That what you had in mind Stocka :heh:.

imo, you surely have, get the gba version Friends of mineral town for cheap. spent countless hours on that game. Also in its days i spent even more time on Harvest Moon 2 on the gameboy. i remember getting it for £19.98, when Electronic Boutique was in the Manchester Arndale and i had begged my mum to get it.

Story:
- You, as a boy named Laguna, somehow find yourself in Caludia Village, wiped of your memory. A girl named Mist comes to your aid and sets you up with your own farm.
Characters:
- Mist is like Takakura from AWL. She's mainly there as a helper and for support
- Other supporting characters are very similar to characters that appear in other versions of the handheld series:
Zaha (talkative boy)
Howait (the priest [Carter])
Kamyu
Nichol (local boy)
Sara (Nichol's mom)
Sebastian (Winery master [Duke])
Russell (librarian)
Seshiria (female orphan, being raised by Russell)
Jeff (General Store owner, Rosetta's father [Jeff])
Ed (town doctor, Lapis' boss [Doctor])
Jakolines (Bianca's father [Gourmet])
- When you talk to the characters their portraits will appear on the screen, just like in the GBA and DS versions of the game. You will also see their expressions change.
Gameplay:
- The hero is trained in sword techniques. You can also spend time training with your weapons.
- The general idea is to befriend creatures (monsters) that live around the area. As you befriend them, they will move into your farm.
- Farming system is pretty much the same as all other versions of Harvest Moon.
- There are over 500 types of tools you can have constructed for you.
- You can use the touch screen to till your field soil, and even catch fish.
Farming
- There are dungeons to explore, and you may find a dungeon with it's own field for planting crops hidden inside.
- Seeds are planted in a 3x3 square.
- When you grow crops there is a chance one of them will produce a Rune. Collecting the Runes will increase your Rune Points (RP). The amount of RP you have will be displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen, below your Hit Points (HP).
Monsters:
- So far there are 11 types of monsters available:
Dragon
Buffamo (cow/buffalo type creature) - You can ship Buffamo milk
Orc
Mokomoko (cute sheep)
Monster Box (vicious treasure chest)
Big Mush (large mushroom)
Flower (a walking plant)
Slime (a blob of goo)
Troll
Silver Wolf
Squirrel
- The befriended monsters also become party members when you go out to fight, besides helping you with your farm work.
- You can equip an item called the "Friendship Glove" in order to befriend the monsters Raising friendship with monsters is similar to using the Touch Glove in HMDS to pet your livestock. When you use the Friendship Glove on a monster in the field, a "heart mark" will appear. If you are persistant then the monster will eventually become your friend.
- Getting the monsters to help you with the farm is very similar to the Sprite Team system where you ask the Sprites for help.
-The befriended monsters live inside of a barn.
Marriage:
- There is marriage included in this game.
- 9 potential bachelorettes so far:
Mist
Veil ([Maria])
Rosetta ([Karen])
Sharon (fortune teller, has mysterious powers [Keria])
Tabetha (maid [Gina])
Torte (bookworm [Mary])
Bianca (wealthy lady [Dia])
Melody (a witch [Witch])
Lapis (pink-haired town nurse [Elli])
- Nintendo Dream also printed a hint from the producer saying that there might be more than the 9 bachelorettes already unveiled.
Wifi
- This game is wifi enabled, allowing you to communicate to your friends by using your DS.
- The global Nintendo WiFi network is usable
- You can exchange items between your friends.
- You can also send screen shots of your farm to your friends.

Harvest Moon Playtest
I'd rather starve than farm with this horrible control scheme.
by Anoop Gantayat
August 31, 2006 - Gotta hand it to the folks at Marvelous Interactive. At least they're trying something new (emphasis on the something). While the Harvest Moon series has followed the slow evolutionary path indicative of a publisher attempting to milk something for everything its worth, for the series' 10th anniversary, the company has worked in some genuine changes. And so, we've ended up with Rune Factory, the second DS Harvest Moon game, which brings one major addition to the series' farming and love simulation elements: a battle system.
The battle system is action based. Every now and then, usually while exploring dungeons in the areas surrounding town, you'll encounter beasts who emerge from a spore point. You equip your character with a weapon and attack the enemy using the same interface that's used to till the ground and water your plants. Enemies keep on appearing until you destroy the spore point.
You have access to a variety of weapons, including single handed swords, broad dual handed swords and spears. You can even use your hoe as a weapon. You can even water your enemies to death, although this tends to be a slow process. Depending on the type of weapon, you have access to a standard attack and a more powerful charge move. You can also equip a shield, assuming you're not using a dual handed sword, two accessories and a magic book, the latter used for casting attack and heal spells.
The core Harvest Moon farming gameplay is still here. Your primary focus is on your farm, which, in some strange amalgamation of Harvest Moon and a generic RPG storyline, you're given by a cute girl after having waken up with no clue as to your identity. You start off slowly by clearing the ground of debris, which can then be sold to purchase seeds. Once you've tilled the ground, you can plant and water your seeds. A few days later, assuming you're sure to water your crops every day, the seeds will turn to plants, which can then be sold for more cash.
The game has a time cycle, taking you gradually through the days and months. Each month lasts thirty days and accounts for one of four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Time progresses slowly, at one minute per second. You start off each day by waking up at 6:00AM. You usually have a few hours to spend working on your farm, as the shops in town tend to open at 9:00, and only on Monday through Friday. When you're finished with your day's activities, you head back to your bed and go to sleep until the next morning.
Paying attention to the seasons is important, as some crops only grow in certain times of the year. On your main farm, that is. In Rune Factory, you also have access to additional farmland outside of your main patch of land. These are located in the dungeons, and because they're closed off from the outside, they assume different seasonal properties depending on the conditions of the dungeon. With the correct farm in hand, it's possible to have winter crops during the summer, and so on.
In addition to dealing with your crops, you also interact with town folk and, most importantly, girls. By speaking with girls in the neighboring town, you build up your "love rating" and eventually get one of them to marry you. The game has a large cast of sub-characters, meaning a variety of targets.
Many of the expected Harvest Moon elements are included in Rune Factory, from fishing to building up your own house. What's missing is live stock. Instead of raising chickens and cows, you now raise monsters. Once you've caught a monster in one of the dungeons, you bring it back to your farm and place it in one of seven monster homes. Monsters that are in your care will produce milk and eggs and will even assist in your farming chores, watering your plants or gathering your crops. You can even make your monsters head out with you to battle.
Your character is limited in what he can do in a given day. You have two parameters requiring your attention as you farm and fight monsters. Every move you make, be it swinging a sword or watering your plants, drains your character's Rune meter. Once this depletes, your life meter slowly begins to deplete until you pass out from exhaustion.
Outside of the RPG and dungeon elements, Rune Factory brings a few new things to the Harvest Moon series. The title has a fully animated intro complete with a theme song, which Marvelous must have spent a billion yen on. The title also has little voice snippets here and there. I would've personally preferred more voice even if it had meant nixing the intro all together.
Visuals have been updated so the game looks somewhat better than a Game Boy Advance title. While background graphics are 2D, characters are rendered using 3D models. The perspective doesn't change, so I would've preferred more detailed 2D character sprites, but maybe we can expect a full 3D view next time.
The game makes limited use of the DS's stylus and Wi-Fi capabilities. By accessing a special point in town, you can send instant messages and exchange items with friends via Wi-Fi. You can also show off your art skills. The game lets you take a screenshot at any point and mark it up with scribbles. The image can be saved and shown to friends.
While there's nothing wrong with adding new elements, Marvelous really ought to have worked on the basics first. Harvest Moon is one of the most tedious DS games I've played to date thanks to a poor control layout. Chores like watering your crops and even purchasing items are far too difficult. It almost seems like the developers discovered that the DS has a stylus midway through development, then decided to add half-assed touch controls. This is a game that ought to have a full stylus-based point and click interface.
As a result of the tedious control scheme, I didn't particularly enjoy the first few hours of Rune Factory, and don't plan on continuing. Let's hope for the next DS Harvest Moon game, Marvelous puts a bit more thought into giving players a smooth farming experience, before adding battles, dungeons and extraneous elements.

Bringing back a dead thread. There's a new video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57yopob-kCY) which looks amazing. I love the twist on things, having to tame your livestock now.

I got a DS lite today, and this Rune Factory game, i've never played a Harvest Moon game before.
If anyone has this game, my code is: 5454-6216-4836-8000.
By the looks of things, this game uses the DS system code and not the friendcode system.
If you add me, please PM me.
