Great news! We can now exchange our Stars points for Wii points, but i've just tried this after an evening of server failure at the wii point shop, to find that there are no cards available and so my points are sitting there as usual... Is this right?
Could the wii points shop turn out as understocked as its stars catalogue predecessor?

You exchange them at that Nintendo site, not the Wii Shop Channel.

Unless he magically edited it without the edit message appearing, he didn't mention the Wii Shop Channel.
But the stars catalogue is actually relatively well stocked at the moment. I reckon they'll add more point cards in January though, after the deadline for point expiration.

*sigh* the fact that you can sell out of virtual cards is just another "Why, Nintendo? WHY??" moment for me.

I tried to get 1000 points on Friday night but they were sold out. Funny thing is that there were 500 in stock before I logged in and in the time it took me to do that (all of about 5 seconds), they had apparently all sold out! Luckily I managed to get two lots of 500 points which bought me KOF'94 which btw is a BITCH to play on a GameCube pad.

Well this is a bit crap, I thought once they got this in place, I could just exchange all my stars and finally get some use out of them, instead the site was practically non-responsive when it came online, and then when I finally got on all the big cards were "sold out". Ridiculous.

Yeah the whole thing stinks. Fair enough for items like the Link Statue and stuff they only get a few in but for something like points they should be in stock all the time.

I would imaging that the packaging takes longer to produce than the actual cards. I guess the packaging is different in the UK from here though.
Why not just send the points directly to your wii?

Probably to much hassle for NoE or something. I dunno cause that's how I imagined things would of worked. I don't mind entering a code or anything though. I'm happy the conversion is up, but not happy with no points available to buy.
I've got no stars expiring this month so i'm gonna save them all up and hopefully order something good of the catalogue for the next time it get's updated.
What? They've sold out, that sucks. Why limit the amount available?

I just bought 2 lots of 100 points cards. But what the hell can you do with 200 points? Silly Nintendo.
ShadowV7
09-12-2007, 04:30 PM
Well I'm happy there's 100/300 point cards cause I often find myself just a small amount of points away from a game I want but I always need to buy 1000 instead of say 100/200.
Will help out in the future, but I want the 500/1000 points to go up cause I kinda of want to download a game now.

That's annoying. I just noticed that Sheikah said he bought 2 cards today, so I went off to try and buy some. There were about 200 cards of 100 points left, so I go to purchase, go to confirm... sold out. About 20 seconds too late. sigh.

Nintendo have basically manufactured this system to **** the customer over. They are just hoping that a combination of "limited amounts" of digital points, expiry dates and the fact that expiring stars get used up last means that they have to give away less games so people have to buy them theirself, since they most probably won't get all the Wii points this way.

Looks like I was one of the lucky ones to get 2000 points. I kept trying all night on Friday despite the fact it kept crashing out. I for one can't complain, but it does suck for people who didn't manage to swap their points. Expecially, with this expiry date looming.

And why, why do 500 stars expire after december? It's not like they can rot, can they? Just give me my damn Wii points or don't let my stars expire, damnit!

I thought at first limiting the Wii points would be fun and it would be a fun challenge to get a card before anyone else. But now when it actually get's updated and I try to get 500 points, it never loads properly and coincidently, when it loads, there's none left.
Now it's just getting really annoying to get just 500 points.

Maybe you already know, but your DS codes wont get you 250 stars anymore.
Price < € 29 = 100 stars, price € 29-49 = 200 stars, prijs > € 49 = 250

Just found this on the site:
4. Number of Stars that can be earned and expiration of Stars
The maximum amount of Stars you can earn in total may be limited by Nintendo with a notice period of 1 week. This does not apply to Stars you have already earned at the moment of notice.
The Stars expire 24 months after they have been earned, so that unredeemed Stars which are older than 24 months will be deleted from your account. Stars you have earned before the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions expire 12 months after the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions, which will not occur until June 1, 2008.
If you subscribe to the Nintendo Newsletter, you will be informed about your current Stars Balance and how many Stars will be deleted in the next four weeks. There will be a monthly clearing of all Stars earned after the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions which are older than 24 months
So i'm entering my codes now.

I'm going for every Wii point I can get my hands on. I'm not particularly fussed if they bring out any hardware or software available on it, as it's not like I won't already own pretty much all the decent Nintendo made stuff. Models and things do not interest me.
However, Wii Points allow me to buy games for free. Such as Lylatwars, which I've had a craving to play for a while now. That has been satisfied thanks to free points.
The rest (should have about 3000 Wii Points when all my stars are converted) will be saved for WiiWare titles.
STill no updated stock on the Stars Catalogue or the Points Shop, this makes me a sad panda :(
And when one little panda puts his furry little willy in another panda's ear, that makes me a very sad panda.
I also have got 0 stars expiring at the end of the year. Good.

Ok so I was gonna get some Wii points with my stars and have found out that they have a limit of how many "virtual" Wii points that they can sell? quite literally pointless... :blank:
What I want to know though is, I currently have 5400 points registered, I can use those up right now nps.
BUT! I also have loads of VIP pin codes I got with games but haven't registered yet, ones from GC, Wii, DS games and hardware.
What I want to know is, if I don't register those now, are they safe? i.e after the January date can I register them? seeing as I haven't registered them yet they should be unaffected by the expiration if I'm correct.
If someone could tell me whether the situation is otherwise or not that would be awesome.
*edit*
spent 5000 of my registered stars on a DS value pack which has a ltd edition stylus and cases or sth, stupid address entry form they have on the site though only lets you enter 10 chars for address line 1? and apparently according to Nintendo every house has a number.
...
I just put 00 and then the rest of my address and hope it gets here, still what a stupid entry form, didn't have this problem when they send my my remote jackets (which are pretty useless) meh w/e *rant over*

This new website is just the same as before with a new coat of paint, the stars catalogue got some decent "real" products but as before not enough stock of the actual decent ones (like the Link Statue).
And the limited points available is a joke, ok the daily limit i could give them that, that's fair enough, but only if they kept the bloody thing stocked

Deathjam
15-12-2007, 06:29 AM
nintendo appear to be 'for the kids' but really they can be a money hungry ruthless corporation. This stars to wii points has another purpose I feel.
I think it may be there to stop people getting second hand games as there would be the chance that the copy they receive has already been registered. More people buying brand new copies and nintendo getting more direct sales and more money.
Also there is the free market research they are getting thru the survey you are forced to fill every time you register.
300 points are up. Here I come Sin and Punishment!

So wait you can now only buy one card a day (somewhat fair enough) but they are added randomly during the day, or are there going to be set times?
Tellyn

Random is better, because if it's scheduled then half of the people in Europe are gonna be on that site ready to buy. I think it's a fair system.

Somehow I was able to register my wii twice. So I've got an extra 1000 points to spend. Not really sure what VC games go get. Might get pokemon snap. But is taking photos of pokemon really all that fun?

Still sucks how they can run out of a virtual product.

Yessss..they are in stoc...Oh no. Gone again. How quickly are these selling out? Isn't this pretty big news?
I'd like to know exactly how many points they are putting up at a time. It says less than 200 at certain points...But less than 200 cannot last less than 1 minute..Believe me..I've watched how fast these go.
I'm sure they are pulling a fast one.
Also..How long does it take for registered stars to appear on the "specific" nintendo star site? I registered a wii the other day and still no 1000 increase on the stars site.

I don't understand WHY nintendo are so reluctant to just make it a non-limited feature! Maybe it's an issue of code cracking, people working in shops registering loads of stuff then cashing in for tons of points, or that they're just a big bunch of gayfaces, but it's incredibly silly. Maybe they're just worried about losing revenue, and think people only cash in for the points to buy a game they want, so if the cards are sold out, people'll pay for the points and buy it instead?
(btw, for anyone having trouble with the shop channel, apparently the wii has problems with some routers' WPA setting, which I found out on christmas after trying to send a present for 2 hours, then finding it buried in the error code help)

Anybody know how long the codes are valid for? I have no internet access on my Wii at the moment and will not have any for a while, so need to know how long I have to use my codes, and whether it would be wise to buy more.
They should last until you use them.

TBH Nintendo should be giving away the virtual games If you buy a Wii game you should automatically be able to pick A virtual game for free.
The stars Cat is such a waste of time I spent over 3 years trying to get something worthwhile with my thousands of stars.
I also think it was flawed and set up against someone like me who bought 3 gamecubes, 3 GBA Adv, 3 Nintendo Ds's as you can only get stars for 1 of each when I bought 3 of each 1 for me 1 for son 1 for daughter. So They punished one of their best customers.
Now it starts again with the Wii points they finally got their act together and offered something worth having only for me to find out IT sucks and I still cannot buy anything as they only make available 200 of each , Actually I did manage to buy 100 points a few days ago, No good to me though as I think the lowest game is 500 points.

The odd 48 hour Live Trial in a game goes down nicely. At least I can use it straight away, and actually gain a reward. Not a number on a website.

Can someone tell me the exchange rate for Stars - Wii Points? I wanna know how much I can buy when I get my Wii tomorrow.
Rowan

I believe it is 4 stars for every Wii Point. So if you want 1000 Wii Points, you would need to trade in 4000 stars.

i have only just returned from months travelling and decided to trade in my stars that ive had sitting there for ages and about to expire. I heard about this about a year ago and was waiting for it.
Anyway, after a few days of constantly trying I have found out some of the times that points become available and have been able to get 3 x 300 and 1 x 100 cards.
You can only get 1 card a day so it might take some of you a while to spend those points.
There are over 200 x 300 point cards made available at midnight every night, thats the ones I have been going for, I also found that the 100 point cards are avaialable around 10pm so you can grab one at 10pm and another after midnight if you missed out the previous day.
As of yet I have no idea when the 500 or 1000 point cards are out and I will probably have spent all my stars before I figure it out.
Good Luck.

If you have registered Mario KArt Wii there is a questionnaire you get 50 stars for doing it. Unless you've already done it. Or don't have Mario Kart Wii.

Shame it's not the old site, the worst thing about the new design is it no longer offers you 5 points a day simply for viting the site. I set Nintendo Europe to my homepage so I made a ton of points that way.
