So it's out, I know there's a thread in the Wii board, but I would have thought that would be Wii specific even if it is a multi region game.
Anyway just general impressions and so on in here.

Single player is great, having not owned a GH before I think it's pretty good. It's just lacking a bit imo. The songs are good, there are some great ones, and some that were just absolute boring to play (Cherub Rock..oh god).
I've been doing it on easy for now and been having fun. I am sad there is no OK-GO. I read on wiki that it was in there, but looking through the list online mutliplayer, it wasn't there.
Online is great. Co-op is ok-ish, just play a song like normal local co-op but online. It's fun when a person who'd never played guitar/sucked so bad puts it on expert. Putting it up to medium online was crazy. I sound like a noob but adding the blue button was so confusing.
Halo 3 theme co-op is awesome. Just to sing along to the bit where they make noise...

(This could turn into a Rock Band thread aswell later, although the posts will be dominated by how good rock band is)

Songs on Easy and Medium are boring as hell. Although quite fun if you're new to GH. It gets much more fun on Hard and Expert.

Keep that in mind while you're strolling monotonously through Easy and Medium.

What do you need to get 5 stars anyway? A certain score? A certain percentage of notes hit? It's pissing me off I get 94% notes hit and not getting 5 star on songs.

Also, to get a 5 star on a song, you need an average multiplier of over 2.0x, I seem to remember reading.

I think the score has to be higher then the number of notes times the length of the song or something like that. Just hit all the starpowers and activate them when you're at x4 and you'll 5* it 90% of them time.

On the 500 note thing you can try and get Sunshine of your love by Cream on 100% in medium
It´s a pretty easy song and it´s exactly 500 notes

Knights of Cydonia on easy is about 550 notes long, I did it 100% earlier, I'd say it's loads easier than the Iron Maiden one!

Stuck on the Seeker on Hard :( my brain just cant computer the red yellow > yellow blue > red blue bit that repeats about a million times in the song. And its a shit song anyway a band with a fantastic back catalogue like the who really deserved a better song.

If you can ride through the first attack you should be fine. He's not that bad on Hard really. It's a lot of luck and stacking needed to win: Wait until he's got a seriously extreme solo coming up and use a difficulty up, double notes and amp overload if possible. Or a whammy attack.

Too me one of the most important things to remember while playing the game is remembering that your not playing a guitar. I have seen some people phail drastically because of this :Þ

Actually, I was just a bit lucky. I got enough Star Power and was able to get through the impossible bits. Quite good considering it was 2am in the morning, when everyone is shite at videogames.

Not bad. I just can't do Mosh 1, I only get about 3 quarters of the way in before failing, even with star power. It's annoying, as it's the only song I have left to complete (other than Lou, but I love battle mode so I don't think he'll be a problem :P)

Do you turn SP on as soon as you enter? If so, don't. Try doing it a bit later. If you enter it in green, wait until you fall into yellow and are closer to red. Then rock out with yer cock out!

Good idea - I actually get somewhat close to achieving the SP section during Mosh 1 (the first few sets of 4) but never seem to make it completely. I should probably use a conservational SP usage method for that bit..

Once you complete the co-op songs in co-op they become available in single player. Online doesn't count.

The songs are the same for all difficulties.

Loving this game, only played for about an hour total but I feel like I'm improving loads already.

All the modern songs are poo though. AFI - Miss Murder? :nono: sellout radiofriendly singles ftl.

Edit: Man the learning curve on this game is immense. Just as you start cruising through medium, feeling like you're improving quite sharply, another twelve layers of hardcore are slapped down on your face.

I hate not being on XBL though. Not even my gamertag thing is updating down there in my sig to show my awesome 5G on this game.

I didn't play the previous two titles so I'm still struggling with medium. I know I said it once already but the learning curve is so steep. I can just about do Raining Blood, with a 3 star rating. I struggle with the Chorus and the Flood even if I slow it down one on practice. And the battle with Lou :nono:. I've improved quite a lot since I started playing, but it feels like I'll have to double my efforts to get decent scores, then quadruple them to start on hard!

I was talking about the game with my friend yesterday, and she said she disliked the guitar on three. She much rather preferred its predecessor, as she doesn't find the shape on this one too comfortable.

I quite like it, but I have yet to play the previous versions of Guitar Hero, so I've got nowt to compare it to - except a real guitar, but then they come in all shapes and sizes anyway.

The only difficult thing that had me confused was the strumming bar, as it was a wee bit strange getting used to that. The buttons on the whole seemed alright to me, but maybe it is easier on the older guitars? Hmm, I didn't have a problem with that.

I like the shape of the guitar itself, but I can imagine people having a problem with it if they like to sit down and play away (like they'd sit down and play with an accoustic, for example).

Have you got the Wii version? Cos it can be quite awkward when you're sitting down to activate the Star Power (by tilting it up). Plus I don't think the shape of the guitar itself makes it all that easy to hold when sitting down. I found it a wee bit difficult to at first.

The shape at the bottom of the guitar is awkward after playing with the original guitar, as it fit more snugly when you held it whilst sitting down. But it was thinner in comparison to the new guitar, which made it feel a bit flimsy at times.

Plus, it was wired :P

It's personal preference, really. I like them both. Don't like the look of the 360 GH2 guitar though, that just looks uncomfortable.

I do prefer the GHIII guitar. It did take a little getting used to at first, but I got back in the groove in no time at all.
The buttons are less clicky and loud on the new one, and it feels much better to play. The old one was great, but I don't particularly fancy going back to it.

In other news, I'm going to get GH2 for 360. So I can get the achievements and maybe another guitar.

Yeah, I have to agree that game is just too hard for me. I'm on normal now and I don't think I'll be going onto hard due to the orange button PLUS the probable upping of the speed. I'll see if I can GH2 cheap anywhere and see if it really is abit easier, as well as abit more fun.

Oh and yes, I think I know the answer to this but does anyone know of a way to get the encore co-op tracks without having to play through the co-op career? My mates don't have the game and the GH2 bundle is pretty expensive, even second hand (£58).

Also as a side rant, does anyone wish there was a Random mode where you could say you wanted to play 4 songs and the game would cue them up for you and you'd just play through them? As alot of the songs in the game aren't particually the sort I'd go out and buy on cd, I find i only pick songs that i want to get a higher score rank in (Muse, Kaisers, Stones (both), Sonic Youth aside)

I refused to play on Medium at all :p 3's and 7's on Hard was fairly easy, but on Expert.. well, i need to practise doing 3 finger stuff.

I've got the Wii version of this, and played the PS2 and PS3 versions at two different friends house's.

Playing from the Wii to PS3 version felt like a smooth transition, but the game felt like AIDS to play on the PS2. I dunno what the hell it was, but the whole thing felt clunky to me. Tried songs that I knew for a fact I could nail perfectly and I was struggling to hit the notes. I was under the impression that all versions of the game were the same, bar possibly the visuals?

Maybe there's a chance that my friend's guitar was knackered, as it felt quite clunky?

No its not the Xplorer, Xplorers are only for the xbox and are wired (well technically for the PC as well but you get my point).

What you have is the either the wireless SG or the wireless Kramer. Guessing the SG since you said it isn't the wireless GH3 one, which is the Kramer is.

I have no idea what's happened - but after 3 or 4 months of not playing GH3 or 2 for that matter (I moved on to Rock Band and didn't look back for some time), I decided to play it again last week for a change of pace, to see how much worse I'd gotten through lack of practice.

But omgwtf - I'm like, 10x better than I was before. I can nearly..NEARLY finish the intro to TTFATF on expert and I've managed to 5 star every song on Expert up until the final set (God damn you Raining Blood).

What's happened? Has my RB playing somehow made my GH playing uber? Or has the break changed my mindset?

I think one of the DLC songs might be the way to go. You can get some crazy scores on them. I managed to get over 600,000 on one of the Dropkick Murphy's songs, if they're still free you could try that.

Well I've now done One, was quite easy to be honest, just star powered through the hard part of the solo. Raining Blood however... I hate it some fucking much! I was so close once to getting past Mosh 1, the verse was in sight and then bam, fail. I just need to get past that one bit to complete expert.
