I'd say it's pretty likely now, shame that there's no HotD1 nor HotD4 in the bundle, no doubt due to lazyness (in order to avoid Sega Saturn and Sega Lindberg porting).

I know for one that I'm not the only on-rails shooter enthusiast here though, therefore... I heard this request here before, and seems that we are at least getting partially served.

So... what next? Virtua Cop?

In House of the Dead 2 & 3 return, players will be able to play both versions of the game, battling the relentless attack of bloodthirsty zombies with steady aim and a quick trigger finger. Utilising the innovative new Wii Zapper or the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players will experience branching storylines with over six game modes including Arcade Mode and Time Attack modes that will test their shooting skills. THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2&3 RETURN features an engaging single-player campaign, plus a co-op multiplayer mode for up to two players for countless hours of zombie shooting action.

“THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD franchise has been revamped for today’s gamer looking for fast-paced shooting action on the Wii” commented Gary Knight, Marketing Director of SEGA Europe. “Utilising the new Wii Zapper, the player can get the renowned light gun experience in their own home.”

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD is famous for its heart-pounding pace and the great visual detail of the vast armies of unique enemies. Blasting through legions of grotesque zombies and mutated monsters, players eventually face-off against colossal boss creatures that will test the accuracy and skill of every Wii gamer.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2&3 RETURNwill be available for the Wii home video game system from Nintendo in spring 2008

2 and 3 does sound weird in a title.

This better be cheap! £19.99 RRP hopefully?

So... Why doesn't it include the first one? :heh:Sega Saturn/Sega Model 2c porting can be a bitch I guess, and a straight port would feature early 3D (meaning bad graphics). Of course I'd rather have them going the extra mile and remake it/upgrade it. But even if it was a straight port... extra value, I guess.

YES! I love HOTD and number 3 was a stunner on Xbox so hopefully the Wii version will look even better!:) Is HOTD 2 just a Dreamcast port (as this version looked better than the Arcade one) or are Sega going to tart it up a bit???

I would like them to update the graphics and everything. If they leave it untouched, then I want HOTD1 in it to compensate.

HotD3 comes from the same hardware Ghost Squad did, and HotD2 well, comes from Dreamcast, whom Sega has a history of ease of porting to the GC, but I don't remember them actually enhancing those.

The title has the outlines of a quick cash in, but that's not so bad if they're aiming for a £17.99/29.99€ pricetagDon't know if I'll bother. I've got HOTD2 on Dreamcast, which I do like but I don't love it.Me too, I have the Japanese version with the lightgun bundled with it.

...

What's this? Is Sega... growing some kind of common sense? Are they... listening to the fans? And it's not even April 1st!

My reaction in short:

:yay: and:yay: some more.

And, yes, I'd like HotD1 inthere too, but I'm quite happy with HotD2. That hammy voice-acting never gets tired. :heh:

EDIT: Either I'm not looking in the right place, or it has disappeared from the list.

Awesome if true. We're getting a renaissance of lightgun/arcade style shooters! Of course, HotD is one of the classics in the genre. Great to see it coming to Wii. I doubt they'll update the graphics. I'd love to see them do it and pay a 'regular' price for it. If not, it gotta be a budget price.

I believe Konami is also working on an arcade shooter. Might be a port as well. Now, if Namco would release Time Crisis on Wii...

No excuse for it. The Wii is capable of far better than DC graphics.I don't mind DC geometry in a DC port, but I do mind textures who look like greyscale bitmaps like the first screenshot shows (wall in the back), I mean at least apply some filtering to it, also the scene with the zombie throwing a barrel, the sky should be brighter, bloomier... Not to mention 16:9 support, that has to be added; it should be standard now.

And if they really want to go for "value" instead of going the extra mile, they should at least port HotD1 too.

Hellfire
17-11-2007, 05:07 PM
It's clearly a direct port. Which is cool considering it's 30$
But yeah, they're gonna need to throw in some stuff if they want my cash.

Strange Cookie
17-11-2007, 05:11 PM
Actually, that wall is exactly the same as in the DC-version. It's only the version of HotD2 on HotD3 on Xbox that had the pixels eradicated. On DC, there are pixelated textures withour proper MIP-mapping. So, yes, this looks like a straight DC-port. And HotD3 looks pretty much the same as on Xbox. The zombies always had a cartoony feel to it. not so remarkable given the first artistic direction of HotD3.

HotD3 as is was supposed to look:

HotD2 had pixelated textures, bar from the version on Xbox, at the cost of a stable framerate.

I just hope they include the option for red blood. Every consoleversion had that, except for HotD1 on Saturn.. which was an unbelievably bad version of the arcade, by the way. If they include HotD1 as an unlockable, I hope they make it the arcade version.

I don't mind DC geometry either, but I'd want much better textures, prog scan, widescreen support, better lighting, and everything else which can be improved.

Nintendo Wii Media | First House of the Dead Screenshots

It's Zombie time! Sega have revealed the first screenshots of the recently confirmed revival of the House of the Dead series on the Wii.

[screens already posted on previous page]

Features single-player campaign and two player co-op play.

Arcade mode and time attack mode are examples of 6 different game modes.

From GoNintendo

Looks like Sega is going to keep this trend with their arcade/console light gun ports. GameStop/EB Games has House of the Dead 2 and 3 Returns for $30. That would match the price they are selling Ghost Squad for. Two games for the price of one cheaper DS title…now that’s a steal.

If its like £20-25 over here I would be a happy man.

How similar/different is Virtua Cop to Ghost Squad?

Quite similar, almost like an extension of the franchise. Virtua Cop, Confidential Mission and Ghost Squa are all in the same vein. One hit kills anywhere, and it's fast with many enemies.

This is in contrast to HotD. Which is fewer enemies, they're slow, require a head shot or multiple hits.

Strange Cookie
25-11-2007, 07:40 PM
Hmm, I don't think that boxart is too shabby. The font and figure on the right are typically HotD, so no harm there. The colour combination in indeed peculiar, but it conveys the HotD-atmosphere quite well IMO.

It won't win any awards for it's brilliant boxart, but for a HotD-game, I think it's pretty classy.

And since this is selling for cheap (:yay:), chances are high I'll pick this up. Again. :heh:

Reportedly, it's coming out with a €30-pricetag, if this source (http://www.wiionly.nl/nieuwsitem.php?nid=4008) is to be believed. (Beware: Dutch!) if this is true, it'll probably retail for €29,99, like Endless Ocean. If your store has fair prices. There are stores here who try to sell Endless Ocean for €45. Good luck with other stores in the street selling it for €30. :indeed:

Looks almost bang on the original (from what I can tell of HoD 2 stuff) but there are small details in the movement that just makes everything look a lot more fluid. It may be because they are using the arcade rather than the console version.

Also seeing that demon sloth in the video makes me wanna kick his ass again. Damn thing! He killed my creds in the arcade!

I think that the graphics should be improved to a certain extent. Mip-mapping textures, adding some bloom-effects, maybe better lighting effects...
I'll just wait and see what extra content the game will contain before I judge it.

I know that HotD 3 was more adapted for home consoles, while HotD 2 was a pure port. Put together, I think it's fairly good value for your money.

Yeah, did a little digging around after posting that. There wasn't a multiplayer option on the PC version, despite having a "Player 2 press return" message flashing whilst playing through the game.

There is a LAN option, but it wasn't technically supported at the time. I think I tried that out at some point without much luck, might give another go if I get chance.

The owners of Wii can request for the success of House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. Indeed, according to Sega, if the title is sold rather well in the world, the editor would plan to offer to the console house of the Dead 4 and very atypical Typing of the Dead. You know what it remains you to do.Here's hoping enough people buy this port then!

darksnowman
28-02-2008, 07:12 PM
I see IGN have a thing up about this Extreme Mode, heres a section of it:

In addition, players who battle through both titles will unlock the Wii-exclusive extreme mode, am altered single-player mode in House of the Dead III which features quicker enemy attacks and smaller bullet blast radiuses for your guns. It's hard, in other words. But aiding you in your zombie-killing quest is the ability to reload your shotgun much faster and an all-new melee attack.

"When the enemy is within melee range, pressing the A button will unleash the powerful melee attack that can hit several enemies," notes SEGA. "The melee attack can also be used to block enemy attacks, missile weapons, and even boss attacks. Don't abuse the melee attack as it requires the player to reload after each use."

Theres also a short Q&A with the games producer in the same article so check it out.

...the editor would plan to offer to the console house of the Dead 4...

I wonder how'd they manage that. HotD 4 runs on Lindbergh hardware, which, with all respect for our beloved console, kicks Wii's behind in term of graphical power. They'd have to downscale it considerably: SD, less polygons, less fancy shaders, possible fps-drop, etc. I fear for what that endresult might be like, but I like to be surprised.

EDIT: You can. Hooray! :yay:

My shiny white BigBen gun is dying for some HotD-action. If you can't find a Perfect Shot, that's a good alternative. Well, I think. I havent actually played with the Perfect Shot, but this gun is pretty good. The revolver-design of both former guns are so better than the tommygun-design of the WiiZapper/Squad Gun IMO.

If you can't find a Perfect Shot and are looking for a decent gun, check it out. I've put up a pic in the Ghost Squad topic (http://n-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14332&page=10).

UPDATE:

Just to let you know that a little birdie flew right past me yesterday and dropped a cope of HotD... if I payed it the sufficient amount of dough.

Anyhoo, this definitely is HotD 2 & 3 as we know and love (or hate, for you heathens). You can play it without reticule, and the calibration works like a charm. It's the closest I ever had to being in an arcade! (I never bought the DC-guns...). Still, I play with the reticle, due to being a lazy a$$ and my poor arms can't bare the effort. :red:

The graphics are amazingly colourful, even compared to the DC-version! Not sugercandy-colourful, but very pleasant on the eyes. It all runs silky smooth. When compared to the Xbox-version of HotD3, this is definitely superior visually. It's colours are more pronounced (Xbox had a tendancy to dull the colours) and there is no slowdown in HotD2, unlike the Xbox-version.

When compared to Ghost Squad, it's a bit bareboned, but lovers of ol-skool arcade shooters and light gun games (and VO so cheesy it'll make your ears bleed) shouldn't miss this one.

What I found ironic is that No More Heroes doesn't have blood in the JAP and PAL-version, and that HotD3 is pretty bloody. The opening scene of HotD3 really has Kill Bill-style blood. Yep, this game has the option to turn of the gore should one choose to.

Just been given my copy of this along with Bass Fishing (Not sure I'll play that one). Looking forward to giving the games another go although I've already played a hell of a lot of both in the past. Not quite sure how I'll fit it in alongside Gran Turismo and still needing to finish off No More Heroes.

I plan on picking this up later this year, right now i already have plenty to be savign and playing thats more inportant then arcade ports. I still wish they could have included House of the Dead 1 as well, it just would have made more sense. House of the dead 4 looks incedible though...

This game with the Nyko Perfect Shot is a blast :D Here are some vids and pics I took. Something I found out after these vids and pics were taken is that you can change the blood color to red.

Just had my first go on this and I'm actually rather impressed with it. I always liked the games anyway so its no big surprise, its just nice to have them on a current machne. I reckon its better than Ghost Squad and I'll certainly be pushing for a Virtua Cop pack in the future.

Hmmm.
I wonder if I'll get this or Umbrella Chronicles. House of the Dead are classic games. I even considered getting HotD for my DC.

Considering the ammount of DC games being revamped for the Wii, I'd like to see the Dreamcast and Saturn on VC. All we need is for Nintendo to do is to create harddrive support.

I really love HotD, but of those two, I'd recommend RE:UC more. But if possible, get both. They are very different to justify both purchases.

I'd even be happy with a DC-emulator, so that Wii can read DC-discs. If there is one thing IMO that would make the Wii the ultimate gaming machine, it would be DC-backward compatibility.

SNES and DC-classics, in one machine? Thank you, sir!

Spoilsport.

Anyhoo, had my first two-player-game this weekend. Ah, just like in the arcade! Just her and me, two guns, lots of bullets and even more zombies.

I also have fond memories of playing this two-player in the arcades. I bought this game on Saturday and I think the experience is definitely better with two.

"There was nothing we could do"
"How could anyone do this?"
"It's too quiet"
"Thanks, Harry", and walks away casually from his terribly injured friend after killing a chainsaw-wielding homocidal giant in a maze that erupted in a colloseum.

Or the utterly cringeworthy pun with the hanging zombies: "James. Are you alright?" "Yeah, I'm hanging on"

Legendary! That's :shakehead and  at the same time. Can you get any more B-movie?
