Printer Advice

The Christmas season is approaching and my grandad said he will buy me a printer for the PC. Now, since i haven't had a working printer for months - it'll come in useful. He's basically told me to find the model, and he'll buy it for me. The only thing is i am a total printer neophyte (big word of the day ;))and know sod all about them. So your recommendations please!

I would want:

- good print quality (preferably photo quality or adjustable)
- maybe one with a scanner inbuilt onto it.
- one that's less than £100
- one that's economical to run (i.e. i wont have to fork out for a new cartridge everyweek)

So yeah, any brands/recommendations/stuff to look out for - I'll be most grateful!

I don't know much about printers but i use a canon i250 and it hasn't let me down yet, and i don't think it cost that much either.

i personally use the Canon Pixma iP90 and it works like a charm and the ink aint expensive at all!

It has a scanner, serves as a fax and a copier, borderless printing, photo quality, color and thermal inkjet, LCD display, and it has twice the memory (64mb) that most other printers have. Also, it shouldn't be more than 100 pounds.

I don't think HP make it new any more, but for the price (£72 there on dabs.com) you get photo printing, a full rack of Photo media cards, and decent, cost effective paper printing too.

I've always bought HP printers, finding them much more reliable and efficient than others I've had experience with - namely Lexmark and Epson.
