Some exceedingly clever person has painstakingly matched up screenshots from the upcoming Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS with their equivilent screenshots from the original NES version. This must have taken quite a while to coordinate, so check it out and be vaguely impressed...

If anything this is testament to just how far gaming and technology have advanced in such a short space of time.

The pics come from a mag. IF they where screen capture they would look much more colorful :)

i can't friggin wait for this! it is pretty amazing to think that those graphics were once high-end on a home console, and now we can achieve this on a handheld console. consider me impressed :)

Wow that looks really good, I can't make out any pixelated textures anywhere and the character models also seem very detailed but in the end story, atmosphere and gameplay are more important but I don't have any concerns about this, I guess it's another must-have for me.

The DS version looks also quite promising too btw :D
(sorry couldn't resist)

...your point being?

obviously everyone else who posted here hadn't seen this before, so it was interesting to them, unlike your post.

To be fair he has a point! (these were shown many weeks ago in a Final Fantasy 3 thread; http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1491&page=1&pp=20 (The NES/DS pictures are on page 2).

But your totally right :smile: ;
it's news to some people (and the Final Fantasy 3 thread is on page 2 of the forum) so it's a worthy post!

I did this better "version" of the original for the thread Retro_Link mentioned in the above post, should clear up the "washed out" colors somehow.

Damn, this looks far better than any N64 game. Square really knows how to wring the best out of a system. Shame this isnt Final Fantasy VI though *grumble grumble*

Pedro, yes i used to salivate over those pics when they announced the N64, it was my most anticipated game. Im still smarting over the decision to cancel it :weep:

Im still smarting over the decision to cancel it :weep:yeah, it was a big letdown... :weep: then they presented us with Final Fantasy 7 who was pretty "basic" compared with the visuals that N64 could do... Actually I think the "full motion scenes" for it were probably rendered in the same hardware they used to run that tech-demo "on-spec", silicon graphics workstations, that is.

The other day I picked FF7 to play it again, and the graphics were just unbearable for me... that never happened to me with FF6... ahhh, the memories... If they were to make a FF6 remake with today visuals, for any console I'd buy it.

Yeah i can never return to PS1 graphics, with its huge grainy polygons. The SNES is easier on my eyes than that thing. Nice find on those FF6 models though, those are freakin sharp!

Anyone else thinking it might be a good idea to run the idea of completing that, on the DS, past SquareEnix? If they've got a load of assets and development work archived, it might not take too much effort to get it up to speed, especially if FFIII sells well.

If they've got a load of assets and development work archived, it might not take too much effort to get it up to speed, especially if FFIII sells well.since it was just a tech demo, a full game, 10 years later would have to be made from scratch. A canceled tech-demo won't ever come back... besides the engine shows the battle system, similar to the one used in FFVII...

In-Game graphics Battle-System:

probably just a scaled down version with lesser poligons. artwork and presentation are quite similar, gloves, hair, cloud's mouth....

It's quite obvious that FF6-2 turned into FF7... the older FF's took place in the middle ages, FFVI brought the machines, factory's, technology, FF7 continued it... and even more, if you see the only video available of the demo... that big, brick boss has a gattling gun arm, I believe that's a glimpse of Barett Walace.

Actually I'd rather see a Final Fantasy 6 remake from scratch, but although this FFCC-alike graphics look great... FF6 would be a more serious "storyline-wise" game so they would need a mature theme look to it, not the old engine.

My obsession with this game is disturbing, id probably buy it if they made an atari version.

My obsession with this game is disturbing, id probably buy it if they made an atari version.I know that feeling, it's like they took something from you, something you had the right to have.

It happens to me quite a lot, as I actually tend to study and search for the beta versions of my favorite games, only to find out that "this was canned" or "this was cutted down from the final game"

I'd buy it, even if it came out today on N64... so that makes us even (or maybe not, judging from that "atari" statement)
