Thought I'd start up another Football season 05/06 thread (the third one hence the Mk. III :heh: )...
Gutted about the news that Heinze could be out for the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligaments, he is arguably United's best defender, also pissed off with Wayne Ronney for an insanely riduculous sending off, he apparently swore at the ref as well as mocking him!
Oh well, at least Arsenal are playing rubbish football

I was pleased Rooney got sent off because he is a fat t**t, and I hate him. I think Sven should drop purely because he is an idiot.
Arsenal got 3 points in the Champions League, which is good news, regardless of how well we played. Chelsea have played crap in games this season and got a win and been applauded for it, so I reckon Arsenal regardless of whether it should have been an easy win should be applauded for winning while playing rubbish.
Went to see Watford vs Norwich the other day, great game, Watford won. 3rd in the league when everyone said they'd get relagated, come on you 'orns!

Yeah I didn't think Heinze's injury was gonna be that bad at first. Not sure who'll come in for him, O'Shea is already at right-back covering for Neville, so my guess is Richardson.
Any predictions for Sundays game against Liverpool? I've got a feeling it might be 2-1 (to United of course!) Rooney to get at least one

Nooooo! Heinze better not be out for the rest of the season! He is my favourite defender at the club, and i just love watching him. He's having it rough at united, in terms of injuries. This just isn't fair on him.

Van Persie is only getting a 1 match ban! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/4254124.stm)
He kicks a player in the face, so he needs stiches around both eyes, and Rooney claps and gets a 3 game ban! Where's the logic in that?
I do think Wayne deserved to get sent off, but it's been totally blown out of proportion.
And Gabby's injury is very bad news :hmm:
Hopefully Richardson, and then Fortune/O'shea can do half decent there..
Edit: Fierce_Link, I'm pretty sure Heinze has been amazingly fit for us since he's signed. He's played pretty much every game, and has played in the south american tourney, whatever it's called.. each pre season for argentina. He might have done too much really..
Rooney needs to learn. He can't keep having stupid tantrums like that just because things aren't going his way.
I'm going to Blackburn on Sunday to watch the Toon. I can see Bellamy scoring past us! Hope not though!! 1-2 to Newcastle:yes:

yeah Heinze did his cruciate ligament.
Why is Van Persie only getting a 1 match ban? I thought it was 3 matches for a straight red, and just one for two yellows

Being a gooner myself, I gotta admit that arsenal haven't been playing their best. And with the news of Henry being out for 6 weeks, doesn't look good for us.
BUT, I don't think we're gonna be struggling that much. As soon as we string a couple of wins together and raise the team spirit and confidence, we'll be fine. The people moaning about arsenal's recent performances probably only supported us cos of our unbeaten run and now that we are in a bit of trouble, they fear the worst.

Van Persie's challenge was clearly un-intentional, he is watching the ball all the time. Rooney on the other hand was being a sarcastic idiot, you don't argue with the ref, you don't swear at or mock the ref. He deserves the ban.

My post was in reference to the FA Cup final, which he missed because of a nasty injury (it was the final, wasnt it?)
And now, he's looking to be missing the rest of the season. So, when i say he had it bad, i meant for 2 reasons:
1. The fa cup final, which would've been his final with united, and because it was a massive game.
2. United are in-form this season, and he's one of our best players. We are going for an assault on the title, and we might not have him playing. :(
Although, i do believe he has worked himself hard. He plays in so many internationals. I do feel really gutted for him.

I reckon United will be fired up after a dissapointing 0-0 draw on Wednesday and really take the game to Liverpool, I suppose if United can't grab a goal then Liverpool might knick one on the counter attack but other than that I can't see anything but a United win, 2-0 for me.

Sorry, too busy as a Wigan Athletic fan to care about the trials and tribulations of the big clubs in the Premiership
Paul Jewell spoke out today saying a lot of Premiership clubs are too busy churning out boring draws in matches because they're scared of getting relegated and losing a lot of money. I say let these primadonnas play in the Conference! Give them a good scrap - I bet a lot of those players like Wayne Rooney and Jermaine Defoe wouldn't last five minutes before they're in A&E!
My favourite Latics player is Jason Roberts - a high-profile striker with a decent strike rate, but also the Latics spokesman for Kick Racism Out Of Football and for the environment.

Not really I want Sunderland to go back down, whereas I definately think West Ham should stay up. As for Wigan, well it would be nice seeing as they weren't even playing league football 10 years ago, although I could have just picked this fact straight out of the 'fantasy world of pixies and magical farie dust' part of my brain (which is actually the whole of it!) so don't bash me if it's wrong :heh:

Whoa, chill. Less of that, please.
Anyway, what he said was actually ok. If he had said 22 years, and the correct answer was 10, then it would have been wrong what he said. But, they weren't playing 22 years ago, which meant that they definitely weren't playing 10 years ago...so what's the problem with what he said?
And where did he say that sunderland didn't finish above wigan?

Well this has me taken aback a little...
So they were in the third division 10 years ago, it's still a bloody fantastic acheivement! I didn't once say Wigan finished above Sunderland last season or mention West Hams form from last season, all I said is that I would prefer West Ham to stay up over Sunderland, is there really any crime in that? :hmm:
Oh and cheers for sticking up for me Fierce, from one United fan to another!
PS: After a little look I have discovered that Wigans first League season was in fact in 1978/79 when they joined division 4 (todays division 2) from the Northern Premier League, so that would be 27 years ago, oh I'm sorry it looks like you were wrong as well

No I thought a draw was a fair result, Tottenham missed a penalty and had several good chances of there own. In fact once Robbie Keane came on it was all Tottenham for the last 30 mins. Not sure if it finished as this but towards the end both sides had 13 shots on goal and both had 5 on target.

Just watched the Liverpool/United game, and it was pretty average really. Liverpool did play better, but it did seem that both teams were lacking something.
I think it was down to the tactics, personally. Both teams were probably worried about conceeding going into the game, so they paid more emphasis on defence. So, it was a tale of two defences, really. Still, good performances by some players. :)

Yeah it was a bit of a disapointing game. One of my main problems was Benitez's choices in substitutions. Traore should never be allowed to play professional football, Sissoku is a good player usually but I dont think Pongolle needed to come off as he was playing quite well. The one player that should have been taken off was Garcia. Id say probably only 10% of his passes made it to Liverpool players in that match!

I feel a little bit disappointed as well. I think Fergie chose to bring on his subs too late, so they made very little difference. He messed up there, imo.

The only thing that makes me even consider the Premier League boring is that the title race is always down to a select group. Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Ticket prices are the reason fans stay away. Last time I went to Highbury it cost my brother £102 for two tickets in the North Bank, ok we could have payed less for other stands, but you always want the best seat. Compare the £51 paid for Arsenal, to the £12 I paid to see Watford vs Norwich the other day and you can see why the fans stay away.

I went to the Cheltenham vs Mackems match and sat in the away end, was great fun, towards the end we were chanting: "SHEARER! SHEARER! SHEARER!". But they lost in the end :(
All for only £5 aswell, I got tickets for the away end on the night at the box office :P I said: " Two for the away stand please" and the woman replys: "Are you an away fan?" I say "aye!" She gives me a strange look before shouting over to someone if they had any tickets for the away end, the man gave them to her and I handed over the tenner!

Scared? Yeah right.
Chelsea: 8 matches played, 1st in the league, maximum of 24 points.
Liverpool: 6 matches played, 13th, the only upside for them is that Everton are bottom.
Chelsea can play much better better than they did today. We were quite average. Terry was MotM me for, exceptional performance that held the team together.

Beckham hasn't been playing well for quite a while now, I think it's a good thing he's not playing against Poland.
Even so, here's how I think Sven will have them line up for Poland now:
Robinson, Young, Ferdinand, Terry, Carragher, J.Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Richardson, Rooney, Owen.
I think I'd throw Shaun Wright-Phillips in there, for Richardson.
I think the problem for Beckham is that he can't go past people, yes he's got a great pass but so have Gerrard and Lampard! Plus the wing-men who'll now get a chance can go past people!
I wouldn't say he's a great captain either, go for Gerrard or Terry, 2 captains who have shown at club level they're great leaders!
I jut hope we see more positive play and enthusiasm!

Well i was actually being sarcastic, but not to worry. Not that i think Vogts was particularily good, but the Scottish press seem to think that the sun eminates from somewhere in Walter Smiths rectum.
As for winning games under vogts, there was that 1-0 home win against holland. However, the second leg 6-0 defeat kinda over shadowed that.

Great that Arsenal won, lets hope this year is our time. I reckon we can win the Champions League.
I was at the Norwich game last night, the first half from a Norwich perspective was terrible. First goal for Luton, fair enough good goal. Then Green made a huge cock-up, fair enough two nil. By this time Norwich had had at least three opportunities of their own, they just couldn't score. Then Luton scored again, this one I thought was off side, the fourth was a blatant foul on the defender (who I think was Doherty).
I dunno what Nigel Worthington said to them at half time but they came out a different team, they had majority of the ball, Green had one or two easy chances to take care of, and again Norwich had plenty of opportunities. Deano scored and I personally thought the come back was on, but alas it didn't happen. Calum Davenport got sent off and then Ryan Jarvis scored.
Luton 4 - 2 Norwich
Terrible game from the Norwich perspective, but it didn't really reflect on the way Norwich played which was a shame.

A right aright, easy. I'm no Villa nut and just typed what I heard in post match commentary. Sorry if I offended you :indeed: But I guess you Villa fans are treasuring every win you get with you having such a poor start to the season an all. Plus the fact that other teams like Man City, Charlton and Tottenham looking so good that they make it pretty damn unlikely you're not going to get a UEFA cup slot.

It could happen to anyone. Look at Arsenal for example, Grahama Stack was accused (was found innocent) and Robin van Persie has been accused too, most likely to be found innocent aswell. Its not a thing you wish to happen to anyone, false accusations can turn nasty.

Despite being a major Arsenal supporter(+ season ticket owner) because I live in Norwich I also support Norwich City, and went to the game today against Milwall. Started off a really boring game but second half was pretty action packed, although Norwich should of taken it. Norwich missed a penalty + Milwall had 10 men and still we couldn't manage to win. To those who don't know it was 1-1.
A lot of people here say they support Arsenal/Spurs/ManU/Celtic/Villa because they are local big teams but I know a fair few amount of people who support little known clubs, such as Walsall, East Stirling, Greenock Morton (that's me, that one), and even Sutton Coldfield Town.
I am a Villa fan 'cos they are local, but I want teams like Sutton Town to do well.

My main team is Celtic because they are my local team (live in the east end of Glasgow) and my family has followed them for years, but I also support Forfar Athletic (Scottish Division 2) and Yeovil Town.
The Yeovil one came about because when they got promoted to the Football league they changed their strip to green and white hoops, so a bunch of us Celtic fans got in contact with their supporters club and we met when they played in Carlisle :)

We thumped Gillingham today 5-0 getting revenge on there jammy 89th minute winner on the first day of the season
up to 7th now and only outside the playoffs on GD. Its scary being this high up the table this far through the season.

ON the whole Keane situation Celtic are top of Roy Keane's list as he ponders his next move after leaving Manchester United. Yet he is also considering Everton and Aston Villa as he would like to stay in the Premership
So do you Celtic/Villa supporters want that man?
I seen that also
