I Know we have a football thread and such bollocks but I personally think this issue alone deserves it's own thread...
_________________________________________
Marco Materazzi has finally broken his silence to reveal the exact phrase that prompted Zinedine Zidane to head butt him in the World Cup Final.
The two men have always been cagey about what was said that day in Berlin on July 9 2006, although Zizou had hinted it was an insult to the women in his family.
Over a year later, Materazzi has confessed the precise words that ended the Frenchman’s career in disgrace.
The players were tugging each other’s shirts during a set-piece in the Italian penalty area when Zidane turned to Materazzi and said “If you really want my shirt, you can have it after the match.”
At this point Matrix admits he responded by saying: “I’d prefer your slut of a sister.”
Zidane took a few more paces, turned and head butted the defender in the chest, prompting his dismissal.
The revelation came in an interview with Italian magazine ‘TV Sorrisi e Canzoni’ and ends months of speculation.
At first there had been suggestions there were racist elements to his comment, but it seems to have been more basic trash-talk on the field of play.
It still earned Materazzi a two-match ban from FIFA for “provocation”, just one less than his aggressor Zidane’s three-match suspension.
“I tried to learn from my mistakes,” added the Inter star. “I have stepped over the line in the past and I apologised for that. I have matured.”
The question marks over what exactly was said even prompted a joke book written along with Materazzi and all the proceeds are going to charity.
Although I love players who are geniuses and not thugs...
But How awesome is that? Headbutting a player who insults your family in your last game which happens to be the World Cup Final...
Fucking Hillairious what Zidane did....

It was quite funny that it was his last appearance.
What a pansy arsed head butt though! If you're gonna do it, do it right. The guy who fell down probably faked falling down anyway, unless he weighs 8 stone. And if he hadn't fallen down, would Zidane have got a red card I wonder.

Yeah, even if he didn't fall down he would have been off.

Wow, gently pushing the top of your head against someone's chest is a send-offable offence!
I think Zindane had blades come out of his head when he headbutted him, or even a stun gun bald head...
You aren't allowed to react in any physical way.
I would have kicked him in the balls and then stamped on his face.
Materazzi has, and always will be a dirty c*nt! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJPKM5aJGW8)

Ha that is in no possible way honourable.
Why not handle it like any normal man his age and ignore it especially during the world cup.

It's "mildly" honourable, but still stupid.

Otherwise he would have come up with a witty comeback.

I don't know if you've already figured this out. But you see, Materazzi is an Italian.
Italians were the one who started diving and going down like a sack of spuds in an attempt to cheat and get the other player in trouble. I think they even teach diving in Italian football schools.
We take the piss out of it, yes, and it can be funny. But they shouldn't bloody do it.

I'm well aware that Italian dive more than any other nation, it just proves that Zidane's "headbutt" was nothing more than a light grazing. As I said if you're going to do it, do it properly.

I think Zidane got the red mist in front of his eyes and wanted to just hit him, but didn't want to get sent off. But Materazzi hit the floor like a shot soldier and got Zidane sent off.

If it's ok for Zidane to do this, then is it ok for Eric Cantona to superkick a fan in the face for being racist?
He should have kept his cool. It's the World Cup Final, and it was the last game of his career. He should have gone out of the game a winner. Instead, he got sent off, and his team slumped to a defeat on penalties.
Nah, only messing, it was hilarious stuff really.

Because Im English, I can quite safely sit here and say Zidane is a legend and what he did was classic.
However, if that was an England player who did it in the World Cup final and cost us the chance of winning it, my opinion of them would be filled with hate.

Passion going way too far again, it's ridiculous to "hate" someone because of a sport. I'd be fucked off with him or angry but certainly wouldn't "hate" him. But I really don't want to argue so never mind.

If you can hate someone you've never met and hate a city you will have been to then you can support a team from a city you have never been to..
That's the fun of football:).
