Mafia 2 has been announced!

New York, NY - August 21, 2007 - 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that it will publish Mafia 2, a sequel to the original Mafia title that sold more than two million copies worldwide and helped popularize the gangster genre. Featuring a deep mobster-driven narrative packed with both behind-the-wheel and on-foot action, Mafia 2 is the sequel fans have been clamoring for. The game is being developed by Illusion Softworks, developers of the original Mafia title, for next generation consoles and Games for Windows®.

Like the original Mafia title, Mafia 2 immerses players in the mob underworld of a fictitious late 1940's-early 1950's scenario. Players will easily become engaged in the game's cinematic Hollywood movie experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing city. By fusing high octane gunplay with white knuckle driving and an engaging narrative, Mafia 2 looks to be the industry's most compelling Mafia title to date.

"As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game's fans," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "The 'wow' factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies."
5 screenshots have been released. Yes! The first is my favourite game ever on the PC, I cannot wait.

Ah, no lol, they mean Xbox 360, PS3 etc, these are still called next gen by some, seeing as the PS2 is still so succesful.

The graphics in the trailer are quite obviously from a cut scene in the game and are not in-game graphics ;)

And cannot say I have ever played the original Mafia, if this gets good reviews when it comes out, I might just get it...

But tbh it sorta seems like another GTA rip off like The Godfather... Hope its not

Play the origional, seriously. It's brilliant, the whole style of the game, from the music to the gameplay is great. You can get it budget priced now too I think.

X360 version for me. Looks a bit better than GTA4 IMO. Almost as good as Cruis'n...

Mafia when it came out was seen as a GTA clone, but it has a much deeper story and the style of the whole thing really makes you feel you are in a mobster film.

A true classic, better than the latter 2 GTA's for me, GTA 3 is a little tougher to decide.

Those are some sexy time graphics. Looks a little plain but I'm sure the narrative will make it exciting.

I played it and really enjoyed it. Feels like another GTA clone, but actually I really like the old atmosphere. Losing the mobile phone to history is a godsend, and the music and visuals are leaps beyond similar titles. The story also seems good. The only issue I had with it was when an NPC took a swig from a drink that clearly has the lid on :heh: I'll probably pick this up.

Well, I was going to bitch about the game, but decided that it wasn't really bad (except for the water), it just wan't to my tastes. So I stopped half-way through the post to avoid my usual over-negative moaning.

Probably would have been easier to hit the back button.

I played the demo yesterday and was pretty impressed with it...

The driving felt like the weakest point, but maybe I just need to get used to the controls.

Probably a game I will pick up eventually.

I actually came back in here to post it (I had it copied and pasted) cause I didn't think it had posted.

What's wrong with the water? Apart from not being able to go in it (which I'm hoping is just in the demo, since you can't go to the other side of the river), the water looks absolutely amazing! Better than anything else I've seen.

This. The invisible wall around it is different to the demo's invisible wall.

Yeah but a bright red wall would ruin that view out the back window somewhat wouldn't it :heh:

28-08-2010, 06:04 AM
Well, you can't go into the water in Red Dead Redemption either.

But is it confirmed you can't go into the water in the full Mafia 2 game, or did they restrict you from that only in the demo?

Shorty
28-08-2010, 03:10 PM
My g/f bought me this game but I've not got very far. The beginning of the game is so unexpected, if you haven't heard about it you probably could never predict it, nothing like the demo. Won't give anything away :)

I'll test the waters (ha!) later and let you know :heh:

Cube

Well, you can't go into the water in Red Dead Redemption either.

I said it was one of the few bad things I found about the demo - not that it was a game-breaker. You rarely go in the water in these games anyway - only when your driving/piloting goes horribly wrong.

Shorty
28-08-2010, 05:56 PM
There are invisible walls around the water in the full game btw, if anyone is curious. :3
