Stared a whole hour up into the night sky and was rewarded with the sight of 6 shooting stars.
Although they're gone as quickly as they appear it was still awesome.

I live near the sea also, so hopefully it will be a clear night. Cloud cover is a bollocks when trying to look at these type of things.

Clouds around here seem to come and go, for awhile it was really gray but now it's quite clear.
Not even too sure if you can see this clearly up in Scotland.

Only look i think.
I wish i was still camping it would be great to see them with no evil light pollution.
I was actually amazed the other night while returning to the tent. It was pitch black for around a few mile away and the amount of stars you could see cystal clear, even the really far off ones really got to me of how small we are.
Chuck
12-08-2007, 08:48 PM
I think you saw a plane m8.
I head on the radio the other day it was meant to be between 10-2 with 100 an hour.
havent seen anything yet (part from planes)
Jesus, theres a bright light!, im goin outside. Maybe just a star, but there are multicoloured ones, maybe airplanes
Slaggis
12-08-2007, 08:51 PM
To clear up confusion, you don't need to live, or even look in a north east direction to see them. Its only mentioned as more prominate in the north east because thats where the constillation its named after is.
You can look anywhere thats clear and you should see something.

Hmmm. Interesting stuff out there.
Is a star that seems to twinkle red a planer or a star? When I look through the binoccies it just looks like its got a red light on it. (Not an aircraft though as not moving)
No shooting star meteorites thingys though...booo.

12-08-2007, 08:59 PM
I'll be looking out for them. Even if they're visible everywhere, I need all the extra visibility I can get to combat London's light. Good job my window points NW.

I can't see any stars either, even though it is clear. Only ones i can see are 2 big glowy ones to the south.
Not dark enough, as well as a lamp post being close to the house doesnt help particually.

well yeah, but it's a chunk of rock from the outreages of space, its pretty amazing when you think about it.
There is a another one in september, thats meant to have some buts making it through and fall to earth, its going to be vital for an early warning system for earth apparently.

Yeh, there was a few news things on it. It said they were going to be checking the rocks to see how old they are, how long its taken them to get here. Then from the big rocks they know off in space they'll know how long, i.e when they might either pass the earth, or destroy us.

I know theres one coming in about 40 years, i read it last year. So if there was one closer i'm sure we would have seen it.
Anyways, i've seen about 6 tonight. Saw a lush one before, must have lasted for well over a second.

"The idea that comets and asteroids might threaten our planet was not widely accepted until the 1980s. Then astronomers began to worry. Comet Apophis is big, about the same size as the asteroid that wiped out dinosaurs 65 million years ago, Might strike earth in 2036.
A major one (i.e species wiped out major) hits the earth every 100 million years or so, and we are long overdue one.
