View Full Version : The Great WiiFit Poll

At E3, Nintendo finally announced the long-rumoured WiiFit. Another example of Nintendo thinking outside the box and providing software for those who are not traditionally gamers.

Much like Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, the software actually aims to have a measurable, real goal - improving your health. Its an aim that will appeal to parents, grandparents, and perhaps even those excercise-shy hardcore gamers..!

Although Brain Training et al have come under fire for not being 'taditional' games and an example of Nintendo forgetting its hardcore fans, they've provided a valuable money spinner for the Big N - and WiiFit is likely to be no exception.

So, here's the question - will you buy WiiFit for Wii?

First of all, it wasn't rumoured. It was officially announced ages ago as Wii Health Pack.

Anyway, I'm getting Wii Fit.

I'd be more likely to get it just for the Board to use with possible future games like 1080 etc...

Not really interested in the title itself, so if the board is sold with other games like a future 1080, then probably not!

I'll probably get it but I'm not answering the poll purely because I hate the terms "hardcore" and "casual" gamer. To me, when someone says they are a hardcore gamer it just sounds elitist and belittling to people who don't play games 24/7.

It will all depend on the price methinks. I'll probably but it, but not on it's release date. I did buy Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix, so I should not be embarressed of owning this :heh:

No, as said above the gym is where i would go to get fit.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but i know people who casually play games, and they'd admit it. I know people who play games 24/7 and are happy to be called 'hardcore'. Its not about being derrogatory or elitist, they're just simple handy terms to describe general gaming behaviours.

Wii Fit is made of pure awesome/sex alloy.

I'm still very unsure about this, I suppose if the board proves to have lots of uses and is durable then I may consider it.

No i will not be buying WiiShit. I will stick to my skateboard for social exersise thanks.

I'll get it since I don't like exercise in public, it'll be cheaper in the longrun than a gym membership, there isn't a gym near me and it looks fun.

I am indifferent to WiiFit.

I see where you're coming from but...

Now I dunno whether AshMat considers himself a 'hardcore' gamer but the fact that he would immediately dismiss this game (yes, believe it or not it is a game) means that he isn't one, in my mind at least.

This is what I'm trying to get at, the fact that the term 'hardcore' isn't set in stone. As far as I'm concerned AshMat and others like him may be traditional style gamers or something similar, but if you want to be 'hardcore' then you have to be open to any sort of gaming experience. However, I'm sure some people would say that because you'd be willing to adapt to a game of this nature then that would immediately make you a 'casual' gamer.

It's quite clear that the definition of a video game is changing at with that I believe that terms such as 'hardcore' and 'casual' need to start evolving as well!

I won't get it, unless it's going to be used in other games that I do want. I'll go to the gym for my exercise instead of doing that with the Wii.

I will get it as I'm not as skilled as hardcore gamers (I'll refer to myself as softcore for convienence, I'm not casual gamer either as I have the same gaming/buying habits as hardcore gamers), so I will get it.

I usually buy all Nintendo made games but with this I dont know. I go to the gym 3 days a week and Im on my feet all the time at work so to come home and have to still stand around while playing just seems like a chore to me.

I most definitely won't be buying it. I get a free membership at Esporta which is worth about £100 a month. I really doubt that this game will be able to get your heart rate up sufficiently to actually increase you're fitness.

I might get this to supliment my exercise. I notice that a lot of it revolves around held moves and a lot of core body exercise (for those who actually know what im talking about). The type of things i do dont have much of that in them so I'm quite game for this. But yeah I also agree with Fresh, whether it's worth buying is another matter.

Also Dave mate, could you elaborate on what you mean by non-traditional gamer?

Stefkov
22-07-2007, 10:24 AM
Yes because I like to play games and I will get it in hope that they will release a Snowboard game which uses it.
Wii Fit will entertain me for a few nights then will go on the shelf.

Honestly? I'm really doubting. i'm hardcore gamer nonetheless, but I'm not sure this belongs in my living room.

I won't get WiiFit if there won't be any other games (excluding non-games) that are using the board.
If it's for WiiFit only I'll use it maybe five times and then get bored with it so it will only gather dust.

I'll be getting this. People doubted Brain Training and WiiSports, but they turned out a treat, and I'm thinking that this will turn out the same way. Nintendo know when they're onto a winner, and I think they're probably onto another one with this. There's also a lot more potential with the board, which we had a lot of with the Wiimote. So, it can only be a good thing.

It may not aid your fitness as a gym might, but this will probably be just as fun, if not more so. It is also a lot more convenient. It's just not practical for some people to go to the gym everyday, but they can easily whip this out and get a workout for 10-15 mins a day. I just want to see what else Nintendo will do with this idea. The thinking clearly is that the Wii is a lot more than just the Wiimote.

i'm already as fit as i can get. i mean, that fucking thing really won't make jack shit of a difference. perhaps if i have been in a coma for ten years or something... it really doesn't look like a physical challenge. and that's all it should be if it aims at keeping people fit. leaning sideways, stretching your leg out, and what not. what's up whit that?

so i'm quite the serieus sporting type. few hours of muay thai a day. it's challenging both mental and physical. but that wiifit thing requires less effort than walking at a slow pace.

as for games it might be interesting though. snowboard sims and what not. but serieus exercise? i think not. and even it it were diehard bruce lee training schemes, what asshole would want to sport in front of a fucking television. the essence of sport is body and nature. go jogging in the woods, or swimming in a lake, or boxing, get some contact competition, change of scene. get some fresh air for fuck sake! this is really lame. it's a great idea for those who really can't leave their living room, but in a genuine sporting attitude this shit is a joke.

so what people are they really aiming at?

Zell

The game isn't even out yet, and people are hating it *sigh*

Who is this aimed at? Probably people who don't have the time and money to go to a gym.

I'm getting WiiFit. I need to exercise and I'm too lazy to go to the gym =P

But I'm hoping that it will be supported for some future games. Like Wario Ware, imagine what they could do with this thing in Wario Ware (^^,)

i don't like the sound of hardcore i like experienced more. but i know where you getting at and as you already can see many "hardcore" gamers will buy it.

WiiFit is another one of those games that everyone talks about and will be hyped up; but when I get round to playing it I'll think it was one of the most boring games ever. Just like Wii Sport.

I might get it, not sure though yet. I liked the looks of the centre of mass exercises which I really could do with to progress with my TKD, but then again I'm already in top shape, so I'm unsure. The other thing that worries me is that I thought the Wiimote was the focus of the Wii. If they start bringing out more peripherals, then it's going to cost a bomb to buy games, I mean I still need to Wiimotes to play some games with my mates on stuff like Mario Party and maybe FF:CC in the future.

Well when i first saw it, i wasn't excited about it in the slightest... and im still not now.

I voted "Unsure" as it doesn't appeal to me, but if they will make it to go with other games then yeh i might pick it up.

I was thinking about that Wii drumming thing we saw at last E3 and thought the board could easily be used for the hi-hat and bass drum pedals.

I think I am defnitely going to get it.
The propect of a daily play might actually cause me to do some exercise.

I already do sufficient exercise through other means so unlikely i'll be purchasing this, although I might get it for collecting purposes, especially if the Balance Board has uses for other games and cannot be purchased seperately...

The Board itself will be sold with the Wii Fit product initially and maybe later on will be sold alone.

I think it's safe to say that other games will use it.

I doubt I will buy it...I spend loads on lager and cannot develop the beer belly people my age usually have as it is.
A fitness regime of any description is not on my list now or in the near future.
