All right, details are little sketchy at the moment because we don't have better quality scan yet, but in latest Famitsu, Namco has announced four new "Tales of" games:
- Tales of Symphony 2: Knights of Ratatosk (Wii)
- Tales of Innocence (DS)
- Tales of Rebirth (PSP, port of PS2 game)
- Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut (unknown platform, probably PS2)
I don't really know what to say, because it is obvious that Namco is oversaturating market w ith Tales of games. And only two of them are actually new. :hmm:
Thanks go to Neogaf users Aokage and King Zell.

Breaking news from Neogaf:
At today's Tales press conference, the series producer announced that the Nintendo DS will be the lead platform for the Tales series going forward.
Why? Because the Tales series means:
- "A drama containing deep themes"
- "Sounds and visuals that showcase anime FMV, theme songs and voice"
- "The unique Linear Motion Battle System"
...and the DS is "more than capable of this Tales-ness"
Thanks go to neogaf user Aokage.

Namco has been doing that for awhile. Some recent moves by Namco:
-Porting Tales of Symphonia for PS2;
-Remaking Tales of Destiny for PS2;
-Porting Tales of Phantasia for PSX, GBA and PSP;
-Porting Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Eternia to PSP.
Tales of Innocence: To my knowledge, Tales of Tempest was a huge letdown, so let's just hope that this game recovers.
Tales of Symphonia 2: Not much to sat except :yay:

Great news! Tales of Symphonia is one of the best RPG's I've played. It's interesting that Tales of Symphonia contains things from norse mythology, e.g. the world tree Yggdrasil. What's even more interesting is that Ratatosk is a special squirrel that lives in the world tree, spreading gossip, and bringing insults between the eagle at the top of the tree, and the serpent Nidhogg at the bottom.

it's an rpg with an good battle system that is let down by a terrible story and characters. And I mean terrible

I actually liked the story on ToS. It was a little confusing, but it's great playing it a second time through knowing all the plot twists. It's great to play it with 2 or 3 people, I found that the computer did much better with Raine (think that was her name, the healer either way) than me or my bro did. We'd just started our 2nd playthrough when my bro took it off to uni. :weep:
I may be heading to ebay or gameseek (both of which should have copies of it), 'cos I've been looking for a game to play for a while. (well, ever since I finished stafox adventures)

But OMFG...best news for a long time. My favourite RPG ever.Supposedly takes place 2 years after ToS, but main character is not Lloyd.
Also:
Ratatosk is a red squirrel who runs up and down with messages in the world tree Yggdrasill and spreads gossip. In particular he ferried insults between the eagle at the top of Yggdrasill, and the dragon NĂ*ðhöggr beneath its roots.
Let the speculation begin.Oh yeeaaahs!
Now, shouldn't they translate tempest?I doubt it, don't count on it. (it was made by studio Dimps and sold like 100.000 in Japan).
I they where to do that I'd rather have Destiny 2, Rebirth, etc translated for a console I own :D

It's like a dream..... oh god i hope i don't wake up anytime soon.
Though what the hell is this about Lloyd not being the main character? Hopefully it just starts off like that for awhile then Lloyd joins and becomes the focus and starts gathering up all the old crew (come on Sheena, wooooohooooooooo)
And as for the screenshot...i'll be optimistic and say it's early days yet, i'm sure they'll do the game justice

I can't wait for more info to be made available, Wii controls should be fun... lets not judge the graphics too much yet - theres a good bit of time for improvement! I suppose we could see this in Europe for NEXT Christmas then? Thats groovy enough, with Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart in the more near future.
I'm sure that Lloyd, Genis, Colette and the gang'll be present and correct as well as Dirk and any others that havent died/ been killed off in ToS. The Norse info could provide us with some ideas of what might happen... but what we really need is some more snippets from Namco!

I'm not very sure about this. I love Tales of Symphonia but when Matt was discussing this game a while back he seemed really negative and like it wasn't very hype worthy.
I think this is mainly based on the visual side of things, he said all that time ago it uses the "same engine" as ToS but I get the feeling he didn't mean it just as literally as that. More like the reason they're using the same engine is that this is going to be a pretty lazy sequel. I'm getting this rather forboding feeling the game will actually end up recycling the entire world from Symphonia as well, which in an RPG pretty much kills the game from the get go.
how are they going to manage bringing back Zelos though. if you chose kratos he died.
There are tons of games out there that are sequels to games with multiple endings. They just follow on from the most common one or whatever the developer's consider their "true" ending.

WTF? I hope to god that's a joke, if the main ones from the 1st game don't play a major (and playable) role, what's the point in giving it the "Symphonia" name, I don't think Namco are that stupid to seemingly give us what we want and screw it up that badly

Because it has same world?
Well "Symphonia" is based in the same world as the SNES game Tales of Phantasia, but takes place like 1000 years before the SNES game, why didn't they use the "Phantasia" name instead of "Symphonia".
The name of the "Tales of" games don't refer to the name of the worlds they take place in. Infact there's nothing in "Symphonia" that refers to any by the name "Symphonia", making a new game called "Symphonia" should indicate a return of the cast from the previous game, and seeing as it is taking place only 2 years later why the hell not?
The-Ironflame
20-07-2007, 10:41 PM
Off IGN: Moving on to the Wii Tales of Symphonia Knights of Ratatoskr, the Spring 2008 (Japanese release) title is, as mentioned in our initial update, a direct sequel to the GameCube and PS2 Tales of Symphonia, painting a new story three years after the events of that game. While story details are scarce, Bandai Namco did announce that the game's main character would be named Emil, and the heroine Malta. Lloyd and other characters from the original will also appear in the game.
Bandai Namco is working on some updates to the title for the Wii. Visually, the company claims that the graphics have been improved, with higher texture resolution. This is true of new dungeons and towns, and those that you might have visited in the original.
Gameplay is also seeing a few updates. The game will feature Wii-mote direct controls, allowing players to move around by pointing at sections of the map. While not strictly Wii related, the game will also include the ability to capture and breed monsters for use as allies in battle.
New main characters and breeding monsters eh?
Mokong X-C
20-07-2007, 10:46 PM
Lloyd and other characters from the original will also appear in the game.
Well so they'll be there that's good, now just waiting for them to be announced as playable (not long after the start of the game hopefully) and playing a major role in the story...actually just thinking perhaps Lloyd will take on a "teacher" role for this "Emil", that could work.
Not sure about the idea of breeding monsters....Tales of crossed with pokemon...and maybe even a dash of Golden Sun...well so long as the battles are as good fun as in the first it'll be great

Can we really be too critical? Thank fuck there is going to be some sort of sequel! Thats some really great news, since when have new characters been a bad thing anyway? Especially if they win us over like Lloyd and Zelos?
I have to admit though, I don't like the look of the graphical style from those screen shots. I prefered the cell shading in the original game.
Sméagol
20-07-2007, 11:44 PM
This is why I'm glad I own a Wii ;). This is fantastic news, especially after the disappointment that Golden Sun sequel turned out to be.. A new Golden Sun for DS would get me more excited than Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 combined.. While this new Tales games can't accomplish that same thing, it's immediately one of the games I'm most looking forward too (together with Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 obviously ;)).
Allthough I'll miss having Sheena (and Raine) on my screen at al times (;)), I'd like to play with an all new cast. I also liked the TOS 1 cell shaded look however.. But we'll see how TOS will look when it's finished.
Seeing this news made me remember to pre-order TOS OVA part 2 by the way ;).
I hope this does good things for the RPG genre on Wii in general.. This is the first major RPG isn't it? I hope many will follow, Baten kaitos perhaps? ;)

It's not that i don't want new characters, i just don't want the ones that made me love the first game to end up taking a back seat, the main reason i want a sequel to see how Lloyd and co's relationships grow further and how each character grows themsleves and really see how their actions in the first game effected the world a few years later (are half-elves still shunned, etc.)
Oh and of course on seeing the news i was compelled to make a vlog for my youtube, though my excitement makes me lose track of what i wanted to say a few times, but i think that's understandable :)

jammy2211

I think they called it ToS 2 cause the original sold excellently in both Japan and America and they want to build on the GameCube userbase who enjoyed the original and allowed it to eclipse 800k sales.
I'm really looking forward to the game though, good RPG's are hit or miss nowadays and the original was one of the best last generation. I think the Wii really needed an annoucement like this, a main series non port non spin off game, awesome! :)

The overworld map in the original looked like a
PS1 affair. The new one looks a bit better.
I also like the sound of pointing to where you wanna go on the map. They shouldnt stop there though. It would be nice if you could point at characters during battle and have them do certain things manually.
Remember the ring menu from Secret of Mana?
That should be in every Wii RPG

You know I don't know if there's EVER been a direct RPG sequel that uses the same characters in the main roles. This sounds a lot like Nippon Ichi done with Disgaea 2, completely new cast and the original bunch make cameos from time to time and some are directly involved with the story.
Honestly I wouldn't expect much from the old characters, Lloyd especially. If there likely to give anyone an important role in the new game's team it's probably more likely to be any of the other characters than Lloyd, since he was the main character last time and they wont want him in the "spotlight" again.

Also... I dunno if Llloyd and company will be represented in the same manner, because Lloyd and them used chibi representations, whereas this game uses a style more similar to abyss... Meaning probably a chibi Lloyd would look like copy pastes midget next to the main character.
That said I could be wrong analysing, but that's the vibe it gave me.

Hate to be an ass, but if tos is anything to go by, we might not see this until late 2009 (which would be a shot to the chest) but my question is, does anyone know who the artist for this game is? I would like to say Kosuke but I'm seeing more of a Eternia style in the art work.
Edit:
I found out it isn't the great Godfather of tos doing the art work. Its Mutsumi Inomata. Famous for other tales games such as
Tales of Destiny & Destiny 2
Tales of of Eternia
Tales of Rebirth
Tales of of the tempest
And a few costume designs in Tekken 5.

Knights of Ratatoskr
Moving on to the Wii Tales of Symphonia Knights of Ratatoskr, the Spring 2008 (Japanese release) title is, as mentioned in our initial update, a direct sequel to the GameCube and PS2 Tales of Symphonia, painting a new story three years after the events of that game.

Ok, I've been staying away from this thread way too long.
-Graphics update: I preferred Symphonia's graphics to Abyss' graphics, so I'm kinda disappointed in this. It's still fine, though.
-Wiimote functions: Not a bad idea, but as long as it is used on an explorable map. I hated not being able to explore world maps in Baten Kaitos. I don't care if Tales series maps aren't detailed. It's 10 times better than unexplorable maps. Unfortunately, I'll probably be disappointed in this.
-Characters returning: It's fine. I wouldn't want it any other way. Tales of Destiny 2 did the same thing and I hear it's a great game.
-Monsters in battle: Interesting idea for a Tales game. I love capturing monsters and stuff. That's why I like Quina in Final Fantasy 9 (oh, and Pokémon, of course). Will probably be used by a character. If so, that character is already in my party.
Ten10: The guy you mentioned. Does he only do the artwork or does he work on character design as well? I loved the characters in Tales of Destiny.
Tales of Symphonia hype: Of course it's a great RPG! Not THE best ever, since tastes vary, but great in it's own right (and my personal favorite RPG).
Engaging battle system, cool music (debatable), great plot (debatable) and, above all, amazing characters (undisputable. If someone tells me he/she/it didn't like any of the characters, he/she/it is probably lying). Plus, the game lasts a good while with the lengthy main quest and numerous side-quests.

Truly Awesome news but they really need to have an explorable map because for a sequel to TOS, click to get from point A to B = part of the experience killed.
And what about...
"flying about on the Rheiards, that won't be possible anymore"
The explorable map was quite a big part of the game, especially considering the amount of land you got to travel across. I hope this changes cos I don't want to wait nearly two years for this to come out only to find part of the game is "missing" due to Namco taking shortcuts, they took none with the original TOS so why should they now?
Put in the extra effort Namco if this really is a true sequel.

Wii Gets Tales of Symphonia Sequel
Namco Bandai announces Symphonia sequel Tales of Ratatosk.
Namco Bandai has recently announced it will release Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk for the Wii. The sequel takes place 2 years after the events of Tales of Symphonia featuring new characters Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi. Fans of the series can expect to see familiar locales and characters from the previous game as well.
In a recent interview with producer Makoto Yoshidumi on Japanese publication Famitsu, he talks about the upcoming sequel.
"The reason why we did not name this Tales of Symphonia 2 is because the game concept is quite different from the previous game. Now players will be able to have monsters as party members and can level up together with the main characters."
Like Dragon Quest and other RPGs, players can have monsters join their party when meeting certain conditions after completing battles. Monsters will most likely be controlled by AI and simple commands might be included, but the producer is still keeping details under wraps.
Another change from the previous game is that there is no longer a field map. Players will use the Wiimote to point at locations on the map. After selecting, you will then enter into that location, whether it be a city or a dungeon, and this is where you can move and control your character. Knights of Ratatosk takes place in the combined world of Silvalant and Teseara which was recreated at the end of the first game. The game will feature the Linear Motion Battle which has become trademark to the series. Wiimote controls are expected to be in the game although not much has been talked about at this point.

Ah for frack sake, i don't believe they'll actually taken this approach, damn it, they better make the towns and dungeons massive to make up for this. And and no rheards(sp?) then i guess, FRACK.
When they first said about using the pointer to navigate the map i thought it might be like in some PC games when you use the mouse and click on the map where you want the character to go but he still actually walks there and you get to explore.

pedrocasilva

crap, have they actually gone and ruined the dream?I think they're testing the Wii, like they've said DS is now their top priority... No wonder, the thing sold 19 million units in Japan... Wii is 3 million as of yet, and the idea is that is also sells to a more casual public, so rather than go all out their trying their luck.
This spin-off re-uses most assets (including places), bring a new mechanic into the game to make it fresh while they are also taking the oportunity to be experimental.
Incidentally the map was one of the biggest complaints about ToS because of the graphics, so they are just axing that one from the ground, even because deep down, they'd have to make a new one from ground due to *symphonia spoilers*
I'm still glad they're doing it though.

I think this isn't a project of the same size as the original, but I still think when all is done this is going to be a kick arse RPG for the wii probably at a time when the Wii still hasn't got many.
I think taking out a world map isn't too much of a loss, it shows a sort of laziness and rushedness over the game though which worries me. Saying that, the monster catching things sort of shows the opposite, so I'll keep optimistic :).
Well, it's obviously not a priority title was like Symphonia (no real Tales game was since then, it seems) but it should still be good. The overworld in Symphonia was far from great, in my opinion, so this isn't that bad.

Do you mean at least two or only two? Don't most tales games have 4, or was that just symphonia and phantasia?Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk is a spin-off, therefore different than our regular Tales game... you have those two main characters we've seen and then... seems like you're supposed to capture enemy monsters and... train and evolve them.
We didn't have a picture showing the hero and the heroine in the same fight before this, so it was unknown if they ever fighted together.
You probably end up having as many characters on screen as in Symphonia, thing is... they're captured by you, in similar fashion to Dragon Quest Monters: Joker for the DS. (again, I'm going by the description, the details are scarce)

I hope they put the typical Tales multiplayer possibility in it - even if it would be only for two people (although I hope there will be more heroes and that you can play with 4 people; although I wonder if you might be able to control the "monsters" yourself too)...
Also: Will you only be able to have one monster at the time (the trailer only used three of the four char slots at max, although there is place for a fourth one - if you are only able to have one monster at the time this might mean at least a third hero?)..?

Since ToS is out of print... We really should pressure Namco into making a Symphonia Wii Edition (like RE4 Wii Edition) a ultimate version with 16:9, progressive scan, budget price, the extra PS2 FMV's, costumes and extras and well... the GC framerate, 4 player option and all that was best for that version.
If they're gonna sell ToS:KoR as a sequel they'd better have the first one on the shelves and it is more likely to fly from them if it's a rebranded Wii Game.

Well: You could make the FreeLoader a Wii channel (which would be way better because you won't need to swap disks) - SD Card - or whatsoever which is updateable through the internet - otherwise with the updates it isn't very useful - (this is important because i think once the FreeLoader works they can only blacklist it or similar things but probably not change anything that won't allow it to work but even if, it would still be possible to update it - over PC or Wii)...
Although personally: They should just remove that stupid idea of region-lock as hey had planned... I guess the main reason really is Europe with thinking they might not sell as much or whatsoever (well: I guess this could happen if they take as long as the e.g. needed for Super Paper Mario or don't release games at all)
The Lillster

ShadowV7

I hope they hurry up with the Freeloader soon though. They can hopefully find a way to Bi-pass it all so Nintendo can't do a security patch. Like have a small SD card that you put in, load something from it so when it goes to scan the disc, it doesn't stop the scanning of certain discs like the Freeloader or change the scanning to it doesn't block the disc.
There's gotta be a by to bypass some of the scanning so it doesn't get blocked and it justs reads the game normally.

Ah that would be a good reason would it not... would be an unexpected twist too (well not so unexpected now maybe), and then as the new characters travel round they come across the "old crew" who then join up and help them to fight/save Lloyd, When they reach him they have an epic battle, at the end Sheena and Lloyd end up face to face in a cut scene, Sheena trying to reason with him, Lloyd mad with power, eventually Sheena expresses her feelings for Lloyd (well this is how i'd like to happen), and this helps free his heart and bring him back. This then turns out to be only the half-way point of the game, with Lloyd turning good once more, the true enemy is revealed who was controlling Lloyd. Lloyd takes control of the team once more to fight this evil... at the end when they win, Lloyd and Sheena ride off into the sunset on Noishe(sp?).

Yea it would be Colette not Sheena, And I bet Noish is going to evolve into a Man in this game (talk to a certain one of the elf children if you don't understand what I'm talking about).
If we knew what the basic story of KoR we could probably easily fit in how the old team comes back.
Lloyd- Track Down All exspheres
Colette- Help Lloyd
Genis- Start a campaign for Half Elf rights
Raine- Help Genis
Kratos- Goes off to derris Karlan and is never heard from again
Sheena- Becomes cheif of Mizuho
Zelos- Becomes advisor to king of tethealla
Presea- Did something that had to do with her sister though I cant remember what it was
Regal- helped Presea

No, i think Lloyd and Colette's relationship should be more like that of a brother/sister... and actually nice idea about Noishe, (i remember that elf story) and maybe after that he becomes a controllable character.
(woops just got another idea)
What if Noishe had already evolved to human form, but also has the power to de-evolve at will. What if Noishe is the ultimate evil (in my little twisted tale), Noishe hung around with Kratos and then Lloyd knowing one of them would have the strength to beat Mithos and then collect the exspheres. Noishe couldn't do this on his own cuase he's actually weak but after Lloyd managed to gather a large amount Noishe takes them from Lloyd and gains a massive amount of power, and uses it to turn Lloyd evil and into his minion, ala Darth Vader

Scratch what I said about beating Mithos since I forgot my memory card got wiped. Moving on. I very much doubt it will be Sheena x Lloyd relationship that we would all want as it isn't the main basic storyline. Unless they do something like in pop3 where they say many people believe this is what happened but the true story is......
It happened to me again. Instead of Lloyd saying Goodbye Mithos after smashing him into dust. He just goes 'I was just warming up'. Admittedly the fight only lasted a minute and a half.
And Presea decides to help Regal with helping to revitalise the world with various building projects as the new direction for his company. Kratos also discards Cruxis' Exspheres into space.

Well, Lloyd and it's gang are made to be younger due to their chibi appearance in the game, I don't really like it, but I'd have nothing against them being represented as they are in the artwork. What pisses me is a cast with 14 year olds like it's the case with Tales of Innocence.
But problem for me is their need to have an attitude, for instance Link in Zelda games is often 16 and yet we never complain, because he reflects ourselves in the game, not a kid.
In a lot of games 16 year olds behave like 9 year olds on a bad day of sulking, the guys who write the argument think puberty means having a lot of problems and elemental questions like "who am I? What am I for?, etc (even if they're small to the point of no one giving a damn about them) due to that things end up being meaningless, forced and overexagerated, taking credibility from characters as well as their likable features, and turning them into japanese stereotypes, as well as often making the side characters more likeable than the leading ones.
That's something that really should change, but it's not that easy; developers see a lot of risk in straying from that, as well as going the realistic numbered FF'ish route; only FF gets away with that in japan, the other would just sell better with chibi characters. (this said, despite the visuals, recent FF's are not mature at all)
Seems like Japanese have problems growing up, seeing that they seem to always have a fetish for Lolita's and rather play games with kids.

New info
All eight from ToS I shows up in ToS II.
Collette is playable.
Collette has wings
You can catch monsters and use them in battles
The battle system is called FR-LMBS(Flex-Range Linear Motion Battle System) I think this is the same system as in Tales of the Abyss. You can run around at free will by holding down a button, but you can not attack while free run. While attacking you will run forth and back like in ToS.
Will be released in Japan spring 2008.

But seriously, how dumb is it to release a sequel to a game that's out of print, and GC didn't even lead, so... there's tons of people who'd play this one (and re-buy it) making it a good addiction to the Wii catalog.
We need more "RE4: Wii Edition's" I think. (drools at the thought of Metroid Prime 1&2 with 16:9, 480p and wiimote controls)

I think that everyones with me when i say that lacks widescreen or 480p in a game nowadays(2007) almost 100% of the time equals lack of production value and polish, rushed. And to know that widescreen was invented in 1996 or 1997. And almost 11 years later the dutch tv stations are finally going widescreen.
And I totally agree with pedrocasilva, namco should release a wii edition of tales of symphonia at a budget price. And seeing that re4 wii edtion is selling like hotcakes. It sold 1.18 million copies from it release in may till now. And it wouldn’t surprise me if an enhanced version of ToS will sell way better than the gamecube counterpart that is out of print by now. I dont know for sure but resident evil 4 GC is still available in stores.
If there comes a wii version of it. I think I would buy it, and the reason is that I imported my copy from the states. And the freeloader isn’t working very good on wii’s

Would be amazing if they done a Wii edition of it. Think of all those lovely cutscenes that will be in it with all those other PS2 extras. And they could even add an OVA in it aswell for good measure.
I would buy one immediatly for the Wii if it got a release. Would be fantastic if they did it.

I'm certainly available to e-mail the US and European representatives (I think this whole thing had a little impact with Rising Star Games a while ago, for example), but we'd need some kind of "organized retaliation" if we wanted to get heard (like... a petition, other gaming sites/blogs making news of it so they could sign, etc); and, if we get either Namco US or Europe discussing it through mail/interview, making news headlines from it, as a possibility (providing they don't rule it out).
Oh, and Namco/Tales forums would be a good pressuring point to get attention and support too.

I'm definently up for it. Even if it doesn't work i'll be happy that I tried to get a re-released version of the game.
The Namco and Tales forums will be a good place to have it aswell since it won't go unnoticed there. As you said we need to do this properly to have any hopes of it working. We could pass it onto other sites, like GoNintendo and IGN if there are a lot of people up for it. I mean i'm sure there's a good few folk on the forums like ourselves that would be delighted for a re-released version. The Tales forum will be the place that we'll likely pick up the most supporters for this.

When it get's released in Japan i'm gonna avoid everything about the game like ToS so it's so much better. Though it would be cool if there was an ending(please be alt ones again) and there was a scene of Kratos walking up to Lloyds house and you seen like his legs and boots then when he approached the house it zoomed out and you seen his back.
Or if Lloyd is evil he can somehow get back to where he is and fight him or something. Oh the possibilites.

ah IGN has an Hand on with TOS:KoR
December 22, 2007 - Thirty minutes into the start of the Jump Festa event on Saturday over at the Makuhari Messe just outside Tokyo, lines for the new Tales of Symphonia game reached ninety-minutes, and never looked back. Waiting that long to play a game for a few minutes is usually a drag, but we didn't have too many qualms about getting an early first chance at the sequel to one of the GameCube's biggest RPGs.
Bandai Namco had Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatoskr, as the game is titled over in Japan, set up for play in eight kiosks, using a demo that was specially prepared for the Jump Festa event. Following a brief chat amongst main characters Emil and Malta, we were asked to explore a dungeon and arrive at a boss within five minutes. Five minutes may seem short for a demo, but the counter thankfully stopped when entering battle.
While the dungeon crawling component of the game didn't seem all that different from past Tales games, get into battle and you'll find some dramatic changes. This latest update to the Linear Motion Battle system keeps your character attacking on a single 2D line in a full 3D battle field. You lock yourself into a single enemy, pressing the minus button to toggle targets, then simply press A to make your character attack, or B plus a direction on the analogue stick to perform a special attack. You have the option of free movement over the battle field, although this usually isn't necessary.
Outside of a super attack move, activated with the Z button when you've adequately built up a super move gauge, the biggest addition to the battle system appears to be the ability to make monsters join your party. You're occasionally asked if you'd like to woo a beast that you've just defeated onto your side. Beasts who have made the conversion can be added to your battle party and used just like any other character during combat. In our play session, we managed to convert four beasts over to the good side; any more, and you're forced to clear out an older monster from your stable.
This Symphonia follow-up makes only minimal use of waggle, allowing you to shake the Wiimote and nunchuck in various ways to achieve special attacks, something that's probably better left to button presses. Instead of tapping the Wiimote, Bandai Namco has apparently decided to tap the Wii's added graphical abilities, as Knight of Ratatoskr looks quite a ways better than its predecessor.
The first Symphonia game was a huge hit amongst RPG-starved GameCube owners, and we expect no less from Knight of Ratatoskr amongst RPG-starved Wii owners. The game hits Japan in Spring, with an international release hopefully not too far out from there.
... hopefully someone did take a video/photo of the demo pod. So we can finally see if this game is in widescreen(I will post it if i found one). If it's not I would be extremely disappointed but I will still buy the game because the hands-on pretty much says that its not so gimmicky like soul calibur legends.

Controls from Jump Festa 2008 build:
Wiimote:
Normal attack: A button
Tech: B button
Fighting menu: + button
Target change: - button
Specialty shortcuts: 1, 2 buttons
Nunchuck:
Stick: Move
Free Run: Z button
Unison Attack: C buttonsThe "change target" button should be in the D-pad or Z button; "-" is just not that practical.

I like the idea of free run. I think the reason 4:3 shots are shown in magazines is so they fit better on the page in some circumstances. Sadly I don't at the moment own a wide screen TV however by then I may have my wii hooked up to one that does letter-boxing if you want to see it in widescreen.

If Zelos in it, he didn't die and never betrayed the team. A bit dissapointing really. It was a surprising twist and his death was very sad. I wouldn't mind if that was really happened, Zelos is awesome, but the twist was so good.
I'm wishing for Lloyd/Sheena and Kratos bonus too. But I just know it won't happen.

Some guy who went there:
I went to Jump Festa and they had a Knights of Ratatosk playable demo, along with demos of Innocence and Destiny Remake Leon Version.
Unfortunately i could not play as the line was over an hour and a half waiting time =_= But.. from what I saw people playing, they were holding it nunchuck and wiimote, and in battle they seemed to perform flawlessly, for people playing the game for the first time. So I guess the controls are user friendly.
There was a trailer, dunno if its new, but its of the cutscenes and FMV animation of all the original Symphonia cast, still in original costume. And one thing.. HOLY CRAP I LOVE HOW THEY HAVE FINALLY IMPLEMENTED MOTION CAPTURE. Now the cutscene fights look exciting to watch and not robot-like. On top of that there seems to be a large amount of Sheena clevage as the character models now have more realistic proportions.
GOing back tomorrow, and trying to get some gametime!!!!
Following day:
Ok back from Jump Festa, with a playthrough of Knights of Ratotosk.
Unfortunately I had to play in Semi-Auto mode as I tried to ask whether I could play in Manual, but unfortunately it was lost in translation Sad But.. regardless, the battle system is very reminiscent of Abyss, with the same sort of combo chains. However I couldn't get free run to work (if any..) but the battles themselves were enjoyable with low load times between them.
There were these unison attacks, but I couldn't figure out the conditions to perform them. I just pressed the C button on the nunchuck and it was like the UBEROWNNAGEBUTTON where Emil and.. the girl sorry I havn't remembered the names.. let loose.
Anyway, skills were of standard tales affair, Emil plays like any Tales sword main, using Majinken and Houshuukyaku.. Whereas the girl was like a combination of Farah (speed and dexterity), Collette (chakrams) and Raine (healing), she's the fighter/support character.
The pet monsters make good tanks.
Saw Zelos's, Lloyd's, Emil's and Malta's seiyuu, as well as the Tales Producer, in person. Seemed like the special promo gummy discs live.
Misono sang LIVE the "Ninin Sankyaku" and "Versus". Awesome.
