Peer Guardian. Is it worth using? Does it actually protect you from MPAA and such or is it a waste of time, bandwidth and ram. Does anyone here use it?

It's a waste of bandwidth and RAM. As soon as the MPAA are on the list they shange IP. Your best protection is to only use Private trackers.

Thanks for advice. What exactly are private trackers?

I'm afraid I can't link them here. (or can I?) But for example. Torrentspy lists torrents for public trackers, anyone can download them. A private tracker you will have to login to, it will keep track of your upload/download. (and probably ban you if you leech a lot) Another advanage of a private tracker it's probably faster.

Finally, I recommend everyone uses www.utorrent.com as a client.

That's tiny. It looks quite a lot like Azureus, but is it as super fast?

Well, typical CPU usage is 0% with 4MB of RAM, so it won't slow down your PC. However, speed wise, you might need to tweak it. Some people get same or better than Azereus from the start. Others need to tweak ports and router settings.

Thanks for the help and advice and although utorrent uses very little ram, its not as fast as azureus for me. But if azureus plays up i'll know where to look.

I'm tempted to try uTorrent (or rather, someone keeps saying I should), but since I'm lazy I just want to know why I should. I don't mind the resource usage of Azureus and I'm familiar with it now - I don't like change.

I use PeerGuardian just for the feeling of being secure, even if it does only offer limited protection from the 'bad guys'.

Tell your friend to stop being a fanboy and enjoy Azureus then. If you don't feel you want/need to change, don't.
