I can't believe no-one made a thread about this, because I think this is f***ing amazing! Best non-game idea Nintendo has had so far!

Check the amazing trailer here. (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21592.html?type=flv) Hot girl included.

Am I the only one who simply can't wait for a daily portion of Wii fitness?

Personaly this "game" isnt for me
BUT i would like to say that i know for a fact that the very moment it is released it will be on all the usual TV programs and maybe even the news just because "it will help you get fit".. and sales will be very high because of this.

So yeah this isnt aimed at regular gamers.. so i dont wanna hear any of that "what the hell is this" crap, if you dont like it.. no one said you had to buy it :heh:

Really looking forward too it, I really enjoy Nintendo trying to make stuff like this and think it's going to be a huge console seller as well as simply, alot of fun. I do 30 minutes exercise every night and something like this would just be incredible to help.

I think Nintendo are striking a great balance between the extended audience and more hardcore games. This one is definitely the highlight of the extended audience, but who knows what crazy and wacky ideas Nintendo will have next!

This will be a pretty interesting thing to see. I will definitely be getting it as it is something that my mum, dad and grandparents will enjoy, some of the mini games look good as well!

More interestingly though will be the wii balance board itself, what other games might use it?

Think of the possibilities: Surfing skating and all that stuff... but this is nintendo and you can guarantee they will have something original for it!

Personally i would like to see a Monkey Ball game that uses the balance board!

Its not quite to my tastes. But I hope and believe that it will become the next cultural phenomenom for Wii in the same way that Wii Sports stole the headlines.

The idee is nice, but it is all made on the balance board, I would have rather seen that the "game" should have made more use of the wii mote by the mini-games.

There is another thread on this in the E3 board, it will get merged with this thread in good time.

Personally think Nintendo are making a very shrewd move releasing this, but for me it is not a headline announcement, which it clearly was Nintendo held it back till the end and even said "we have Miyamoto coming on soon to reveal a new game" and everyone expected a new awe inspiring franchise and instead we get a glorified step aerobics dvd.

I remember saying on IRC after the comment about Miyamoto coming on to announce a new Wii game that will be perfect for both markets "Animal Crossing Wii, guaranteed."

Those words didn't taste good when I had to eat them :(

I quite agree with that comment, but as i am sure that you meant it, i only think that about the wii fit game itself, i think that the balance board has the potential to be a great gaming device... although not in the same league as the wiimote and nunchuck.

I'm not entirely sure why people are worried about this at all. It's not like Nintendo are saying "THE NEXT MARIO KART WILL ONLY BE PLAYED THIS WAY!"

It's just adding variety, to an already expanding market. You can't get WiiSport type games on other systems due to the controls, and the same will apply to WiiFit. At the same time, Nintendo are still giving us the classics like Mario Kart, they've let slip that Pikmin will see a future release, we all know we'll see the classics like Zelda et co at some other point, and third parties are announcing new games all the time.

Really don't understand why people are worried about the hardcore market at all. We should be bluddy excited, we're getting a pretty damn, for want of a better sentence, fucking good selection of games and applications for our system.

Exactly how I feel, the DS is flooded with casual games in the mass, but for a hardcore gamer to complain there is nothing on the system for them, they would deserve a huge slap in the face.

The Wii line up is even stronger then what the DS had at this period in it's life (to both expanded and hardcore audiences) and the companies are starting to make games that can be enjoyed by both markets equally. Hell, the new Zelda is showing that sort of a trend in Japan, hardcores praise it while casuals enjoy it due to an excellent hybrid of appeal.

This sort of gaming is far more appealing to me then 100% hardcore games, personally anyway.

Nintendo News | Wii Fit Set to Cost Only £35?

Quick News - According to numerous online retailers, GameStop included, Nintendo's early-2008 Wii Fit package, which includes the bundle Balance Board as well, is set to only cost $69.99, which equates to roughly £35! Considering the technology included, this seems a great price-point. Good price if true! Though more likely to be £40 over here!

Converting the price realistically, it'll be between £50 and £60 if it's that price in the US.

WiiFit preorders (http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=4777)

Sales for Nintendo Co.'s upcoming fitness title Wii Fit increased 310 percent on Wed. upon availability to pre-order the product at Amazon.com.

Wii Fit, said to be released on Jan. 1, moved to sales rank of No. 74 from No. 304. The title will be released with a Wii Balance Board peripheral for a list price of $69.99.

Wii Fit is said to feature more than 40 exercises, including aerobics, muscle training and yoga.

Nintendo debuted Wii Fit and the Wii Balance Board at the E3 Media & Business Summit in July. It said the title would be released to the U.S. in early 2008 but did not provide a retail price.

I tried wii fit the other day, and I must say it was pretty fun. I'm not sure about the longevity in single player though. The balance board is extremely sensitive, making the yoga exercises pretty hard! I guess I'll buy it, but it'll probably only come out of the closet during holidays with the family.

One other thing: you absolutely CAN'T fake the hoola hooping. You really have to hoola hoop! :p

Not putting this out for Christmas is a big mistake. My mum bought a Wii but has only played Wii Sports. She's only interested in games that involve you moving about and exercising and also she works long hours and hasn't much spare time for gaming. This would be perfect for her but I can't see her buying it any other time apart from Christmas when she's got time to play it and all the family is around to join in the fun.

More serious gamers are going to have a great Christmas with Galaxy et al but with not much for casual gamers to get their teeth into, I don't think its going to be a 'Wii Christmas' like last year was.

To be honest though, if they put this out before Christmas Nintendo would have even less hope in keeping Wii stocks level with demand over Christmas.

That's my theory on the Smash Bro's delay too, but yeah, I know for certain if this game was released before Xmas I wouldn't have a hope in hell of buying it. Already got a growing list of games on my to buy list >_>.

I'm not sure when I want this to come out, cause I can't really get it when I get Smash Bro's :/. Maybe if this releases early Feb and Smash Bro's late March, er, yeah.

Wii Fit has gone on sale, and yes…there were lines. Yodobashi Camera opened to a 100 person line, eager to get their hands (and feet) on Wii Fit. Is this line indicative of big sales? We won’t know until Wednesday next week.

I knew this was out soon but I didn't realise it was now. If this doesn't sell like hot cakes then something is going wrong... first Japan don't by much Mario Galaxy then imagine if they didn't show the interest in this that everyone expects. Nintendo would surely go outta business. :heh:

I'm gonna make the conservative prediction that Wii Fit will sell out and Wii sales will sky rocket once more.

Wii sales have already gone back to number one, but Wiis are plenty in stock in Japan (I'm here now). I'm in osaka currently, heading back to Tokyo tomorrow night, I'm going to Akihabara Tuesday so I'll take photo's of any activity Wii Fit style there!

James McGeachie

If it sells more? Hell it's probably going to demolish Galaxy's sales, not only at launch but more importantly in the long run.

Casual games have been the only games with "legs" on Nintendo consoles since....well, as long as I can remember. I don't think any hardcore games in the Gamecube days ever hung around the top 1- charts for more than a couple of weeks either, where as Wii sports and play stuck in the top 10 for a damn good while. Wii fit will very likely keep up the same trend.

dazzybee
02-12-2007, 03:31 PM
Wii Fit will sell insane amounts of copies, but thats a great thing. If half of the people who buy Wii fit decide to take a punt on Galaxy (I'm not incuding typical gamers) then that's great!!

Wii sales went back to number one last week, but I hope this sees them sky rocket to new highs and totally destroy the opposition over christmas. I think this is one of the reasons Brawl was delayed, two such big titles would only hurt each others sales.

On the Gameplay front, I think the skiing looks sweet.

Patch

It's almost impossible for us Westerners to predict the day-to-day tastes of the Japanese, but I agree with everyone who says that Wii Fit will sell insane amounts of copies, at least globally speaking.

I'm going to go on a limb here and bet that it will be Wii's second best-selling game.

I'm also betting it will be Wii's greatest source of media-frenzy when it comes to Wii-Fit-related injuries and mishaps.

In a similar vein to Brain Training, it looks like this is a title in which you may or may not return to day after day to see what your BMI is.

But I have to ask, does anyone else return to the brain training "days"? So that you get the stamps, keep on trecking etc...

It seems that missing out on features because you haven't returned day after day or you return a month later is something nintendo took from Animal Crossing and applied to all of their "training" games.

A good thing and a bad thing me thinks. I like consistency. And I'm lazy. Maybe this isn't the title for me. No doubt I will push my parents to buy it anyway.

ahhhh that explains everything. I thought it was very odd. Good to hear Mario sales are steady away. Mario has never been a game that has sold bucket loads on release, but a slow steady burner that racks up serious sales over the lifetime of a console.

Saying that, Mario Galaxy has been the fastest selling to date, having already clocked up over 1.1 million units.

People are going off topic here.

Wii Fit is a definite purchase for me even though I go to gym this looks like it could help me be active when at home too. The games actually look good and there seems to be plenty to do.

The video tours on wiifolder.com are great. This will sell the Wii, maybe more so than Wii Sports.

I want this game, just I'm not sure if i can be arsed with the idea of having to remove the disc and put it back in between my daily plays of it and more traditional games.

It's a minor gripe, but one which will no doubt anger me in the end :P.Also storing the balance board could be annoying, and needing a second for multiplayer is weak too.

Still, looks like a great piece of software, just hope Nintendo bother to release in Europe before the onslaught of traditional games hits me.

is the balance board sensitive enough to respond to taps or minor pushes from a seated position - i.e. could it act as an accelerator pedal in a driving game you play whiles sitting down. I like sitting down you see.

Maybe that's your problem, you consider this a "game".

I'll think I'll get it, might be a more fun and convenient way (and cheaper compared to a gym) of getting exercise. Then again, there are better ways to get exercise. Still, like I said, it's more convenient..

I so can't wait for Wii Fit. Sales of the Wii are going to hit the roof.

I can see a lot of franchises already on the Wii, might take advantage of the Wii Balance Board for another installment which might otherwise not have happened on the Wii.

Rayman Raving Rabids, Super Monkey Ball, Mario Party 9, and Wario Ware as mentioned above. Also expect there to be skiing games, more olympic ties-ins as well.

Hell, Sega should consider it for Sonic Riders.

Can't wait to play games that involve the Wiimote and nunchuck as well as the board. Steer with the wiimote and nunchuck and balance using the board in a bike racing game.

That's my point.. This "game" (I'll just call it an.. application from now on) aims to get people to exercise. If you feel you don't need any more regular exercise (and it seems like you don't, you've incorperated it nicely into you're daily life), than this app just won't be necessary for you. Save your money and spend it on the real games like Zack & Wiki and No more Heroes etc.
The only other reason you could have for getting it, is simply for your collection, hopefully the balance board will be used for plenty other games in the future. In the mean time, maybe you have a girlfriend / parent / sibling who can exercise.

I'm still looking forward to it!It seems that Mario Party DS has only a slight lead, plus it had almost a month head start over Wii Fit and has the luxury of being on a platform with over 60 million sales. It's only a matter of time before Wii Fit passes it.

I've been watching quite a few videos of this recently, really liking the look of it. Especially the hula hoop level (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPs5I5x1TZQ), the music on that one is awesome and I love the way it changes every time a new hoop is added. Snowboarding is another one that looks fantastic.

Wii Fit To Launch In US On May 19

According to the Wall Street Journal, of all places, Nintendo have gotten around to announcing a release date for money-printing balance (remember, balance, not fitness) training game Wii Fit. It'll be released in the US on May 19, so those looking for new ways to improve their sideways-leaning techniques or would like to bore houseguests to death with a new Wii Sports "replacement", you've only got a three month wait. How exciting!

AIMING TO KEEP EUROPE FIT

Nintendo of Europe Announce April 25th Launch Date for Wii Fit

Nintendo’s new, unique and innovative application for Wii, which is hoping to get all across Europe moving their whole bodies - Wii Fit, is set to launch across Europe on April 25th 2008. Since its launch in Japan on December 1st 2007, Wii Fit has already sold in excess of 1.4 million units to date, making it one of the fastest selling Wii titles in Japan! Wii Fit has been designed to be enjoyed by the whole family. In Japan it has been encouraging family members as a whole to discuss the topic of fitness and take an active interest in understanding their own fitness in a fun and entertaining way, all in the comfort of their own home. Now this unique and dynamic new title is making its way across the waters and is aiming to get people across Europe up on their feet and moving their bodies as they experience daily exercises that combines fitness with fun.

How is this possible? We hear you ask, well its simple, with the introduction of the intuitive Wii Balance Board!

Wii Fit comes bundled with the Wii Balance Board, an accessory developed exclusively for the Wii console that will have a far-reaching impact for all who use it. It’s innovative, exciting and most of all fun and simple for all to use. It is a pressure sensitive, wireless balance board that goes on the floor – so someone can stand on it in front of the TV. It senses weight and shift in balance in any direction and therefore by standing on the Wii Balance Board during activities allows players to follow along to movements ensuring they have full control of the on-screen activities. This allows personal improvement goals to be set to effectively help you and your family to train and stay fit...

Increasing your awareness of the importance that fitness has on everyday life and keeping yourself and family motivated should be easier with Wii Fit. The programme allows up to 8 people to track progress and monitor performance. Once you insert the Wii Fit Disc into a Wii console, a new channel - Wii Fit Channel can be added to your Wii Menu system. Once the Wii Fit Channel is added it enables users to not have to insert the Wii Fit Disc into a Wii console in order for the Wii Balance Board to scale your weight to calculate your BMI, measure the center of your bodily balance and conduct a balance test in order to calculate your Wii Fit Age. It also allows you to monitor how long you did which category of exercise for in one day, all in the comfort of your own home and without the need to keep inserting the Wii Fit Disk into your Wii console each time.

There are 4 training categories including Aerobic Exercises, Muscle Workouts, Yoga and Balance Games that will help you and your family to develop bodily balance control ability, burn fat in the body, help tone and condition muscles, as well as help increase aerobic stamina. Discover over 40 different activities within these training categories such as Hula Hoop™, Ski Jump, Press-up Challenge, Rhythm Boxing, Rowing Squat, Lunge and classic Yoga poses such as Half Moon, Tree and Crocodile Twist. With all this on offer and much more, Wii Fit along with the Wii Balance Board introduces an accessible and intuitive programme for all the family to enjoy

Through Wii Fit’s training programme, helpful tutorials and encouragements from your on-screen fitness trainer, who will change his or her verbal instructions depending on how you actually perform, and the included Wii Fit Channel, you will continue to have endless fun whilst having the satisfaction of knowing you are aiding yourself, and your family, on towards a path of a healthier lifestyle.

Wii Fit comes bundled with the Wii Balance Board and launches across Europe on April 25th 2008.

US Price is "Under $100" so $99.99 I think the jap price is $89. So lets take the highest price $99.99 (about £50) add a bit of VAT £60 and add the obligitory screw britain markup and we get £65-£70.

So in short Owen seems about right.

IS really annoying they could easily have incorporated it either as one channel and as a competitor for the likes of the 360 achievements system, but surely if they are just stats for individual games they could have been incorporated into the games themselves?

A couple of screenshots seem to indicate that you can "put on" weight aswell as set a deadline (like 2 weeks). If someone can honestly gain/lose weight in a set space of time using nothing but this title this will be the greatest piece of software known to man. Somehow I doubt it's possible. Walking tightropes and heading footballs wont make me Arnie in 6months. Although I'd like to think it would.

It would be a really great feature if Wii Fit offered nutritional advice about what to eat etc...A great feature would be you putting your average calorie consumption in and then the game analysing what you should be getting and offering advice...like DONT EAT CHEESE!
However, this could be hidden away in the many menus.

The potential this title has is staggering. I'd love for Reggie to prove that there are 10 titles in the works for the board though. Somehow I get the feeling it's 'sales' talk only.

ShadowV7
21-02-2008, 02:28 PM
I think there are games on the work for it. As discussed in the last podcast (I think or a podcast anyway). 1080 would be amazing if they used the board right.

There's not to much of a reason to lie, some probably won't make it but with Boogie 2 rumoured to use it and some games in development to use it, it's safe to see developers will jump onboard the board. Get it :p

It would be bad to just make 1 game using the board, or you'll feel abused.

tapedeck
21-02-2008, 09:38 PM
...it's safe to see developers will jump onboard the board.

I'd like to think that developers will embrace the board and develop sterling, inventive titles yet, for the most part we are still wishing developers would embrace and develop inventive wii-mote titles.

The board offers developers like Activision the opportunity to completely rejuvinate the Tony Hawk franchise...but graphics and gimmicks will probably reign supreme as they stick to the 360 and PS3 as the fore-runners of the franchise. Hopefully Guitar Hero showed Wii is a viable platform for sales/franchises.

I'd personally like to see some lightgun games using the pedal function that time crisis started using in later instalments. Or even a driving game (potentially mario kart?) using both sides of the board as brake and accelerate. Indeed, these are minor suggestions but it would seem that we will perhaps only see Nintendo really utilising the board.

The board could be the saviour of many franchises...But didn't we think that about the wiimote? Time will tell.

Nintendo seem to have been finally noticed as the pioneers of game "playing" development (in both the public and business sectors) and so this could be the peripheral that breaks the mould and actually drives developers to develop more exclusive titles than previously thought possible.

Over the last couple of years, I have put on a bit of weight that I'd really be better off without :heh:

I am really looking forward to this and think it can actually help me! I can weigh myself every day, do all these stretches/exercises I probably wouldn't have thought of.. go running in it every day.. all this would be on top of anything else I could do to exercise, like go for a run down the road or go play tennis.. whatever..

I feel I'll be better at setting myself targets and maintaining them.. so bring it on!

I'm also convinced the balance board will be used for a new 1080, which excites me even more :yay:

they sell you 2nd hand games (or ten day returns) as new in their online sales. e.g. I find other peoples saves. I use to bulk order their cube clearances for ebay and it was not just a "single" mistake but a deliberate attempt. There are plenty of reasons to hate which others might oblige.

However, wiifit is sure to sell out, so better order from someone who gets a big allocation and only sells pre-orders when the stock alloction is known (e.g. not play.com - rember their wii pre-orders 2000+ taken but eventuall ony 200 allocated by nintendo on launch day ). If you must pre-order from game, make sure you say three hail marys and go to confession

I'm appalled by the price. Half of me thinks it will be worth it for any future titles (1080/family ski) but the other half makes me shudder as I think of previous peripherals that I have lay about the house.

I'm sure it will still be a massive seller but I can't help feel that they had an opportunity to really drive a huge nail into the competition here, yet with that price you are talking £180 (wii) + £70 (wii fit) thus totalling a hillariously steep £250 for a mini casual-alike gym.

This would have been a perfect bundle deal. But as ever Nintendo know we will pay.:shakehead Not impressed.

available from argos for full whack plus delivery! but they are reliable.

Due to the likely demand, Argos is expecting to sell all its stock before the launch on 25th April. Only by ordering your Wii Fit now can we confirm that you will get one.

£4.95 home delivery charge applies to all pre-orders.

All orders of the console will be delivered from the date of launch. Argos will only take pre-orders against a pre-agreed launch allocation from the supplier. Argos will not start taking pre-orders until this allocation is known. Argos will stop taking pre-orders when this allocation has been sold. Argos will never knowingly oversell the Wii Fit. Argos will endeavour to deliver on the launch date, however should the supplier fail to deliver on time or part deliver on launch date, Argos will deliver to customers in strict chronological order, which may be after the launch date. Argos cannot be held responsible should the release date slip. Should this happen, Argos will keep you notified and either deliver on the revised date or offer a full refund. Wii Fit must be connected to a Wii console for it to work.

What the hell in that picture gives any clue that it's in Germany?

And I know fine well you weren't joking I'm not an idiot. If you didn't realise that picture was being used in a joke context maybe you shouldn't read anything on the internet in case you get offended.
First of all I didn't say it was from 100% Germany I said likely or could be.
The typical wooden German fences the Beer furniture and the Water bottle type is more European then US.

Hold up! You think I wasn't joking but what about the other Posts?
Are you offending that statement which replied to or is this just a big misunderstanding?

Maybe you shouldn't read anything on the internet in case you get offended.

Wooden fences occur everywhere in the world, I don't see how that makes it more likely Germany. Bottles occur everywhere too.

Its clear you weren't joking while mr_paul was, making your statement, of putting him down for being stereotypical and racist, completely hypocritical. :nono:

Why does it matter that the gamer is 'Welsh'? Are you implying they are inferior to Australians/Germans/Americans? ;)

Yeah, a typical wooden fence. So why is that more likely to be in Germany? A bottle looks European? I wasn't aware that you could tell the locale of a bottle by how it looks, especially when you can't see the lable.

I know fine well that you didn't say 100%. I'm just saying that you were picking up on welsh_gamer being "stereotypical" or "racist", when you yourself where more guilty of it than him.

You've blown this out of all proportion just because you can't comprehend what I wrote. Whatever.

So I see! :blank:

Zoiks, easy Shaggy! ...and the rest. Lol, I thought the stereotyping (although cruel) was happening in jest. So if offence was caused to the Americans, the Germans... or the Welsh I'm sure it wasn't intended to cut quite as deeply as it seems to have done.

But, er, aren't the Americans getting a bigger and sturdier balance board...?
