But I do know they say the word "utmost" about 8 times in one hour.
I never even used that once in my entire life n_n

That's a headache if I'm correct. It places the card number on the top left right and down side of your cards in battle. Supposedly to make it harder to select them.
It can also be confusion if the number are twirling around on your cards in battle.
I never found these status effects a problem as selecting your cards is still very possible and making straights and pairs too.

i did notice card number positions are different. So its supposed to be an adverse affect, dosent seem to affect me much though.

Correct, it would in fact make it easier to select the cards. I hope they fix the status effects in the next game though, cause they hardly made the game harder, though I wasn't complaining at the time n_n.

Yeah I hated paralysis especially the boss who inflicted it and then would drain a lot of health. You know who I mean.

Not my cup of tea, them card-battling turn-based RPG's. Great visual design though. Dense atmosphere, and a weighty plot. I played it for a whole week or so, which is a very very long time for one of them no cup 'a tea of mine card-battling turn-based RPG's.

Yeah there are some, but they arnt really usefull, unless you want to complete the list... Actually there is just one card that comes to mind that only appears once. (actually its a set)
But you can play it first without using the guide, and then a second time using the guide n_n

Ah that one item that's not in the Faq is the Sun Anklet. And I found out there are two more items that are not in the one chance faq.
Here is where you have to get them:
Cypress Creel- Right after the battle with the Iron Beetle V at
Caste Elnath there is a temporary shop set up in the castle s throne room. One of the two guards in the back sells the creel,
but this is the only time to
see or get one for your gathering.
Fairy Barrette- There is a guard in the Anuenue palace that hungers for pow
yogurt when you can freely explore the world map. Age some pow milk into the yogurt and give it to the guard.
He'll give a constellation magnus first,
but after you complete a certain event at the Celestial Alps come back for
the barrette. If the yogurt isn t given before completing the event then the
barrette is lost.
Sun Anklet- After a major fight on Durh the party will have the option to
head back to the skies. Before going they should visit Gemma Village again
and talk to the man in blue on the left hand stairs. He ll give the anklet after
a short speech.

0_0 sweet I didnt know bout those. But again, they arnt needed to complete the game so its okay...but thanks anyway!
Also, some items that can only be obtained once are the Yells. Theres a Yell for every element and you can get the Lv.1 Yell by beating the groups of soldiers in the castle (ya know when you strategically have to dispatch soldiers etc etc. Its easy to screw that up...I got all but one 0_0

Well im just under 5 hours into the game and all I can say is simply AWESOME. Im loving every second of the game from the opening sequence, which by the way is amazing, to the point at which im at ( Just finished Lords Mansion ) everything is fantastic so far.
One of the main reasons why I never picked it up on release day was due to it being card based. I was thinking it may have been something like Lost Kingdoms which I couldnt really get into but after playing it I can see its so different from that. Also the action is really fast paced and you just forget about it being a card game and just think of them as your moves.
The characters and music are also top notch. Kalos is cool as hell as is his metallic wing. The battle music, especially for the bosses that I have fought, is very upbeat hell one of them is even a dance tune!
Sidequest are a thing which I love in RPGs and this doesnt disappoint so far. Im on getting names for the old mans Geneology and taking photos mid battle is a blast especially with the sayings that occur when you take the pic. Also seeing all the combos that I need to find it looks as though this will take me a good while which is a good thing to me. Quick question regarding photos. Once I take them of teh boss do I need to keep them as some bosses only appear once or is it safe to sell them once I have aquired them?
So in a nut shell im loving it and thanks once again to Ray for giving me the inspiration to buy it.....One question though. When im in a battle im getting special moves in my deck but I still havent figured out what causes them to appear. Is it random or is there something deeper to it?
Thanks

Anytime my friend n_n I'm glad you like the game as predicted n_~
You can take the photos of the bosses and sell them yes, no problem. In fact, these will give you the most cash. And all the photos you take will appear on the collectors list so yeah you can sell em. Actually, you dont even have to take the photo as your proize in order to get it in the list, but most of the times you'll want them anyway (sepcially the boss pictures)
The special moves? Well some can be used only after playing a certain amount of cards. At the point where you are, simply playing one attack card before them will do.
Sometimes stronger special attacks will suddenly pop up. Thats cause of the reltion with the Spirit (being you) The better your relationship with Kalas, the more chance you get to getting one of these special attacks. There are about 12 of em in the game I think n_n.
So think hard when Kalas asks you a question, the more right answers you give the more chance you get in getting those special moves n_n
I love the starmap side quest and family tree quest too 0_0 And its alot of fun and very rewarding to complete them n_n.
Thats about it, if you have more questions please ask. I just picked up the game again too. This will be my 4th play through I think. n_n So cool...
Anyway gotta run. Take care

true, the first flame swords turn to regular swords after an hour...same goes for the powerfull light blades you get in the Library (which despite being freaky, which I hate, is one of my fav dungeons)
However later in the game you get the Efreeti Blades (also fire element) which wont turn to regular blades)

I know its a big ask with it being my first post and all but could anyone help me out with a gamesave at the start of disk 2? Long story, but i completed disk 1 a few weeks back but had to stop playing because off work. Just got back round to playing it only to find the save wont load of disk 2 even tho the save is called disk one complete or something?
Just load it off disk 1 i hear? yeah well the reason i cant load it off disk 1 is because my little brother found the dvd and i really have no clue what he did with it to get it in such a state but it isnt even reconised in the gamecube anymore :(
Come on please someone help me out i really want to continue with the story. I have looked at the saves on gamesfaq.com but really dont want to use the save and spoil the story as its right at the end of the game.
Smalldude76
02-10-2005, 11:47 PM
Once it says to switch disks, you use Disk 2 from thereon. I don't think it creates another file on your memory card and therefore shouldn't be a problem. You might want to try using another gamecube as there may be a problem with the one you're using. Since it won't upload your save from Disc 2, this is probably your problem.
A problem of my own (possible spoilers despite the obvious...), I'm fighting Geldoblame and am in need of many more Sacred Wine cards. I've only got the one I got with Mizuti (holder was killed right away...). Where are these other ones Nintendo Power recommends I have?

Thanks but its no good i can remember making the save at the end of disk 1 before it asked me to swap the disks so i think this is why it doesnt show when i look for it on disk 2. And as disk 1 wont even load any more looks like i am really screwed till i can find somebody to provide a save at the start of disk 2. I dont know anyone with a gamecubeto test out my disk 1 as they all have a xbox or ps2 :(

You can make Sacred Wines by combining a Holy Grail and a Japanese Rice Wine in a battle using that combination with only those cards used in a turn. You'll get a Sacred Wine after the battle.
As for the save problem it should load off the second disc so you shouldn't need disc 1 for that. The save must be corrupt. You'll need a new one but I don't think you'll find it on the internet. There are mostly almost complete saves but not for the beginning off disc 2. Maybe someone with an Action Replay or Gameshark can help.

Essentially your cards are caled magnus. They're divided into three sub categories: Attack, Defense, Healing/curing.When the magnus are gray, you cannot use them. There's a little bar above the magnus that shows how much damage it does. Eg, your long sword and sabre will do more damage than your short sword. there are finishing magnus - the one you start off with hurts 45 (blueish card, forgot what it's called).
As for the numbers on the cards, the one in the top right is a way to get bonus damage. example if you have 1,2,3, you'll get some bonus damage. If you get 3,3,3, you'll get some. Later on you'll be able to get things like 3,3,3,2,2 in any order with a bonus.
Some of your cards are coloured blue, red, green, etc.
Blue - Water
Red- Fire
Light Blue - Wind
Green - Chronos
White - Light
Black - Dark
Brown - Normal
It's all fairly simple as Light and Dark harm each other, Wind and Chronos harm each other, and Water and fire harm each other. However if you use Water against a water monster, your attack will not harm it as much. You also have to be careful not to attack or defend with opposite cards because they'll cancel each other out and the damage given will be minimal or the damage taken will be maximised.
I hope that was of some help. It will be a little confusing at first but the story will pick up, you'll become more powerful and things will fall into place. However be warned that unless you prepare properly for your battles, you'll fail ultimately. It's always good to have a number of healing cards with you.

Fighting these two Red/Blue cats things. Any tips on fighting them other than water against the red and fire against the blue? 7000hp each.
Oh, and everyone in this place seems to attack Lyude every single time. Not just once, it's every single turn. Kalas and Xehla manage to walk away with very minimal damage (not even from these battles) but my god is it annoying how poor Lyude is picked on :(.
-edit
I traded Kalas and Lyude in for Savyna and Mizuti. Worked like a charm, but cards that bring your partners back to life are a must.
What I found even more amazing is how terribly simple Malpercio was. Kalas had 21 'pass' cards as I didn't know he'd be a part of my team. I still won easily. Right now, I'm about to fight Giacomo and crew again. I'm so excited!
Zelda_Rulez

They would hit Lyude a lot for me too in that place. He had the least defence cards too maybe that's why?
I beat the cats on my first try and I used the opposite elements but not only that. It wasn't really hard to me though.
Yeah Malpercio was easy there.
The fight against Giacomo and others is easy too but you will be busy for a long time.
I was fighting them for about an hour or so. Good luck.

Ok I got to ask. What were Namco smoking when they came up with that Candy Land and the Paper Book World? It really freaked me out then I had a laughing fit over it. Also I was loving the old 8-bit dungeon which was also a laugh.
I have started to get used to Gibari now as I have got a decent deck with him. I was on the thing non-stop yesterday as It really dragged me into it. Anyone else think the story is a bit similar to Skies of Arcadia? Or does it take a different turn at somepoint? The music in certain places is abit like Kingdom Hearts on the ps2 which is no bad thing.

Ok I got to ask. What were Namco smoking when they came up with that Candy Land and the Paper Book World? It really freaked me out then I had a laughing fit over it. Also I was loving the old 8-bit dungeon which was also a laugh.

I love the candy place, its just so pretty, but the Paper book World yeah, WHAT THE FECK?!
The mystical garden/8 bit dungeon is one of my favourite parts of the game.Genius.
I wouldn't say the story is that much like SOA to be honest, although I can see what you mean.

Just reached disc 2 now wooooooooooooooooo! That whole candy/paper book/ mirror world messed my head up real good. Quick question. What level should I be on when I reach the end? I will probably be quite high as I plan on getting all 1000 odd magus but I just want to know what level I should be at.

Sorry for the double post but like I stated before im trying to get all the cards. Now i have been reading a onetime only faqs ( tells you the cards that only appear once) and it says this:
Once you reach Alfard, keep a spare Camera in your Stock. Once you get off the island, you'll see why.
I have just landed in Alfard and I havent a clue what im supposed to be looking for here.
Any help?
Thanks

Ok thanks for the tips and yeah I heard the next area is pretty tough so I will do some levelling up. Still I cant touch the game yet until I get an answer for that Magnus question I asked ( also put it on gamefaqs ) as I dont want to miss anything.
EDIT: Someone gave me the answer on gamefaqs so I can start playing again lol. I think I will try level up to about level 28 by just killing the guards over and over in Llyudes home town.

I trying to decide if im going to buy this. Must admit that I have become a bit tired of the constant "love/hate/bickering/teasing troubled teenager" thing that seems to dominate many rpg's. So, is is there a lot of that in here? And if there is no love story, that would be even better..
only thing that really annoyed me was that stupid bitch Xeila, ahh she had the ost annoying voice ever. It burns my ears I tell you, arghhh.....but yeah great game.

Well I made it to the last boss last night. I tanned his first form but im debating whether to go kill him now or go and get the rest of my Magnus first. I have 866 so im not that far off. Whats stopping me getting most of them is the combining chart. Some of them take ages to pull off.

Well it's not really a bug. They meant for the effect to be there as a sign of your relationship with Kalas. When your relationship gets better you will hear the voices much clearer and vice versa. Too bad the effect isn't really nice to hear. I had it on surround too.

I am nearing the end of this game.
some people seem pretty hardcore with their character levels. I seem to be on about level 50 for most of my characters. And thats been playing normally, with a decent amount of battles, and not really skipping or rushing through anything.
I kinda want it to go on, but also want to complete it as it's taken a big chunk of my life recently, some 50 hours no less. And I reckon there's another 5 - 10 hours left in it yet.
I have to say the game started rather slowly but really does pick up on the 2nd disk. The story has more than a few twists and turns, and the characters really get developed later on. To fully appreciate how good a game this is, you will have to persist and be patient with it. I did find it a bit lacking at first, but it is really good when your party starts get strong.
The Music in this game is just brilliant. Like Tales of Symphonia it adds so much emotion and atmosphere and you get a real epic feel. The voice acting is good in parts but mostly rubbish, though i still prefer it over just having text. Kalas, especially is really good.
I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes rpgs, or looking for a long quest. But be prepared to put the time in because you won't really like it to begin with. At the end this is a brilliant game. Arguably the best on Gamecube, though Tales, might just shade it for being more consistent throughout.

Im still "stuck" at the last boss as I refuse to fight him til I have achieved everything. I was on doing the combo list all day yesterday and just need to do 1 more combo then that is finished. I also need to finish my magnus list. I only need 10 more, one of which is off the combo, While the others are all time based Magnus so I have to wait til they change. One of them doesnt change til 336 hours so I have to leave my cube on while im asleep. After that then I will go fight the boss with all my peeps at lvl 99.

Thats a thing i really hate in certain games when items/charcters/missions only appear once and then you cant get them. Me being me I like to get everything in a game first run through so I have to delve into guides/gamefaqs which sometimes spoils it for me. I would like to go through a few times without a guide but i own all 3 consoles and have trouble keeping up with all the releases so this is the best way for me.

Ive not played much, just out of the first village... should I have found a way to give that girl milk or will I be back? And Ive beaten some beast in the forest and the girl, Xehla has joined me. Does anyone remember that fallen log or whatever? Should I have been able to burn my way through it yet or again, will I remember it and go back later?
My first impressions are good and it seems very fresh and I feel good about having started this new adventure. I just hope Im gonna have as much fun and be engaged as much as in Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Arcadia.

I just adore the battle system, the freshest and best battle system, dare I say it, I've ever played. The thing which makes it great for me is that you have to constantly involved, your mind always has to be working, spoting combos, making sure elements don't combine badly. This makes you always having to be alert and on your guard. I then contrast a typical Final Fantasy or any other turn based RPG battle system and you always get a point in the game in which you are just truding through an area being met with random battles all the time (take the Mushroom Rockroad in Final Fantasy X for example) and everytime a battle would occur I'd be sitting there lazily pressing X to attack, after the battle I would just hold forward, probably while reading through some magazine and when i hear the battle music I'd just continue to thumb the X button.
Baten Kaitos always keeps me engaged because of it's fantastic battle system and two, it's simply wonderful sublime environments which are just a joy to watch.
Also, the voices really aren't as bad as people say they are. I think they are perfectly fine in general, give or take a few words in which the emphasis is slightly astrew

I agree, the battle system not only is very strategic but fast paced too, you don't get that very often. As you progress through the game the battle system grows too, it improves all the time.
And yeah, the voice acting is fine in my opinion, I also think its brilliant in ToS, yet people still complain about the voice acting in both games.

You have to see Quezman, the guy who's dying in the village. The you present the Family Tree chart you got from from Quezman to her and then she says she'll only leave if you give her a bluebird, then you give it to her.
Also, I'm pretty sure that pictures are only intended to be sold becasue all the magnus you ever encounter is stored in like an encloypedia in one of the menu screens.
Still loving this game, just got the red haired guy in my party, Lyude?. Thought the kind of SRPGish element in thte knight battles was another cool idea.

Im up to the Rainbow Continent and its proving to be a very very good game. Like all great RPGs its hard to finally say to yourself that this is the save point where you save and end playing for a while and then when your away your mind keeps wandering back to it and wondering whats to come next!
My Tvs been on the blink - a nine year old portable, I got it back the same Christmas as The Almighty Donkey Kong Country 3 (which coincidentally will be top of the list we all voted in and not the game everyone is resigned to seeing top league, right Stocka?) ...so anyway, I been playing the GameCube downstairs in the living room and what I was saying in regard to Baten Kaitos is that somehow the game doesnt seem so amazing to look at on a big widescreen. When I played it on my 28inch screen it looked magical. The colours and backgrounds used are just so eye catching. If I had to pick fault with the graphics it would have to be the characters. The models were fine but it was the design of them. Most of them look like Final Fantasy rejects but this is just a minor niggle.

Just got this game recently and so far it's really great!!
but i just need to ask;
Is there a way to tell which element type enemies are when you fight them for the first time?
It's obvious with some enemies (those that are on fire for example), but with others? For example, i'm now at the city of the clouds and the two enemies you meet on the cloud pass (the tiger and the griffin type enemies) how are you supposed to know what would be most effective against them in battle. Because it's a cloud area, i could guess that they are maybe wind or light based enemies; but how are you supposed to know?
- I've just remembered that the background of an enemies card may give it away? (i'll check when i go on the game later), but even so, this wouldn't help you the very first time you fight an enemy because you don't have their card!
Also is there any way of knowing how much health an enemy has?

Mine arrived yesterday and I've played a little since, but I loose a lot (this card system is awesome but also feels like a limitation, at least at the beggining, I healed my enemies a couple of times already, so I don't really know how to use my cards and make a deck well... Not being able to use healing/defending/atacking items at the same time by menus or browsing the deck is a letdown, although that isn't turning me off, from the game, it's just not for anyone, dificult to get into.
but still great game, it's hard, but that may be rewarding later on... but it takes a while to get used to.

It seems to have some plot holes though, when Xelha finds his friends dead, and kalas robs them... that's it, after that kalas returns to the village talks about what happened to xelha but... there's no mention to those two, two people dying is not worth reffering? (not to mention they died with one whip, when kalas and xelhas took like fifty of them.)

In the opening FMV the old woman sounds strange, alot more strange than in the original trailer, the ending voice with "now be what you want to be" also sounded better on the old trailer, I'm still getting the hang of it, but it's still one one the best voiceactings i've heard in a game (I heard some pretty bad ones).

This gets explained later in the game but I think its a sidequest. If I remember rightly to get the explaination about those 2 guys you have to keep the Memento card until it changes into another card then hand it to some certain people. I cant go into without spoiling it for you.
I personally love the opening FMV of the game. I watched it many times just for the final saying of " Now be wanted you want to be " or words to that effect.
Lastly Pedro have you altered the sound output of the game? Just many did, myself included, as the voices seem to have an echo on them.

(I don't know if I'm taking to much time on first play, but enjoysing every second of it)
I still can't believe how good this game is, the critics clearly underrated this one, so far I'd give it at least a 92% and maybe consider even a 96% (out of 100%) really... a awesome game. Even the voice acting although not perfect (gotta hate Lyude and some non-player characters) it's quite good, enough to be listened to. (unlike other experiences I had in the past).
As for the sound I didn't meddle with it, just plugged it over a subwoofer and it's quite perfect :)
It's a shame the scenes perfectly made in FMV shown at the beggining are made in-game, they would be perfect otherwise, as the trailer has a poetry and knew how to catch the most "catching" phrases in the game.
Now... back to the game... I wanna beat Giacomo's ass :D

I can't beat Giacomo, Folon and Ayme battle, I'm at level 22/23 on all characters and I don't even know if it's possible as is :'( really hard battle, any hints on what I can do now?
I'm using Kalas and Gibari for atacking, because they can also use weapons as shielding, and using mizuti for magic (although he is always the first to die, due to healing :X) I normally store items for healing on him, not using them right away, that gets on the way, because he is systematically atacked various times in a row, and I always try to spare the healing items.
I'm afraid of killing ayme and folon and be left with Giacomo because he must have some pretty draining attacks...

Ah the dreaded 3 some battle. Alot of people get stuck on this purely beacuse they are under levelled or havent got the best of cards fortunatley for me I did as I knew the battle was coming :D
Best thing I can suggest is to take out Folon and then Ayme as these 2 are the weakest characters also Folon does some high attacks so get him out early. Just concentrate on him then Ayme and leave Giacomo til last. If you are still having trouble use 2 characters to attack while giving all your healing cards to your fastest player leaving them to heal every turn.

I got stuck there too :D
I remember taking out in this order:
Ayme->Folon->Giacamo
And I learnt all their weaknesses etc. to always use the right cards. I can't remember the weaknesses though.

I pretty much used Kalas, Lyude, and Xelha throughout the entire game. If you're on the goldoba battle with Ayme, Folon, and Giacomo, it's pretty hard unless you're prepared. I got to a point where I was too fed up and stopped playing for a few months (actually won then got killed by a machine outside the door). I restarted and totally kicked ass throughout the rest - always level up.
edit - I took them out with Folon first, Ayme, then Giacomo. Use fire on Ayme, it really sets her health back. Water works well against Giacomo and Folon. I forget which ones light works on, but it might be all.

Hey I don't hjave this game yet.. I'm currently lookin to buy it relatively cheap.. it's next on my list but I have a few other games to play first.
Anywhos, I was wonderign how long it roughly takes to complete first time round? I like long RPGs. Also is the story better or worse than say ToS or Skies of Arcadia? Are there many twists? I alays like those.
I reckon I should like it.. the card system put me off in the first place but many say it's one of the games best features. I prefer Skies... to ToS.

I just got a recent copy of Nintendo Power and Baten Keitos II is featured in it.
The article says that Nintendo itself will publish the game in America (maybe in Europe too). The game is a prequel to the original and it will have more plot twists than the original.
Some pics depict some levels looking like they were made out of clay. Some other pics looks amazing too.
Some characters that made it to the original game will be in the prequel too. Some will have a personality "evolution" towards the finalized characters we knew from before.
Looks interesting! :yay:

This is some incredible bumpage of this thread, Im sorry if it causes any problems... but it shouldnt, right?
I got back to this last night, it took me a couple of fights to get used to the system again but I seem to be cooking again. Im up to the library section, I picked up in the town before with the festival happening. Id been trying to put up with the voicing but come on like, Queen Corellia sounded like such a robot! Anyway, its a lovely looking game and Im enjoying it quite a bit - trying not to rush it which is what I seem to be in the habit of doing with RPGs.
Ill be back with more updates on my progress as I go.

Hey iv got this game too ^_^ o wow...lol
errm anyway i havent played it for a while exams n all...but i really like it, only thing that sorta annoys me is the wooden voice acting, it sorta stops me from getting into the game more than i would like.
But so far fun and addictive.

Yes I think so. If I remember correctly it's 50%, said so in the manual.

well startede on this gem of a game a few days ago.. and am finally beginning to manage the card system.... but im probably never going to be a master at selecting the best cards.. often i find my self in battle without a single card to defend with during some turns.. that hurts.. but it's getting better

I often sacrificied other cards and eventually a defense card comes up but generally a 3:2 ratio of attack and defensive cards worked pretty well for me.

Personally i went with the tactics that a good defense is a good offense. I didnt pack that many defense cards with me, then again in RPGs I usually do over level my characters so defense isnt really a problem.
Like it has been said though just find a nice balance of cards and make a deck that suits you. The deck building is one of the reason that makes this game so great because you can make your own strategies and not have to follow other peoples ideas.

A few questions then:
How many hours roughly are in this game? Im still only on disc one like, does the second have plenty of playtime in it?
And, whats the best fighting trio to have? - ie, does it matter or is it just down to personal preference and playing style?

as for the best trio... I used Kalas, Gibari and Great Mizuti... but I got stuck in a battle, so I dunno.
EDIT: My advice though... level up a lot for 2nd disc. and don't forget to make various save states.

Can I ask, is disc two when cos thats just where Im at so Im thinking its a good time to chill out and level up and maybe collect some cards... but I dunno how motivated Ill remain. As for the quote, is having different saves all that important? Ive never done it that I can remember except very recently in Riviera for GBA.

Ive never done it that I can remember except very recently in Riviera for GBA.I only had one save in the memory card and when I got stuck I couldn't get back, I couldn't level up because there was no church around... I couldn't do anything. that's why, when you're in the imperial city make a standalone save there.
As for switching over to Disc two... It was right after boarding for the imperial city island, If I recall correctly.

Right you are, Ive multiple saves now and Im on disc two. Im aboard the Goldoboa and just saved it inside the door. Ive not had any bother dispatching with guards and those flying thingies on the Goldoboa so hopefully I should be equipped to get through whatever big boss fight is awaiting me up here.
Seeing the ships flying and then landing on the deck of the big bad Goldoboa has reminded me quite a bit of Skies of Arcadia - even though the games have the floating islands similarities, Baten Kaitos has done a good job differentiating itself from the aforementioned Skies.

** Could be SPOILERS **
I died a few times last night, took me til my third try to take out Giacomo (funnily enough, for the second, I changed my decks cos there were healing cards that had gone stale and whatnot, and I changed tactics to taking out the girl first, i worked well but I died again. Anyway, I was feeling confident and went straight for another retry... however the decks had been reset to what they were for the first try! I felt quite dejected and thought I was gonna get slaughtered but I hung in there, changed tactics again to taking out the guy - Folon? - first and then the girl and thirdly Giacomo. It worked and he unleashed his StarWars style plot twist upon me... before initiating the self destruct on the ship, dirt bag.)
Anyway, onwards to the lava caves. Fighting fire beasts and big freaky looking things and eventually coming upon Geldoblame. I did the battle, won it without a problem and now after all the cutscenes and everything Im reduced to just being bonded with Xelha and Im not feeling optimistic about completing the game lol... who's gonna take Kalas place? Maybe Gibari... definitely him, because the other two, Great Mizuti and Savyna, have no battle experience or decent decks. And I have to go and find them all now, too. I dont expect it to be easy but hey, Ill probably be back to it later even though I dont feel like going any further with it now.
That was quite the update and I tried not to go into details spoilers-wise, but I apologise if you have read that and things have been spoiled for you.

On the "cloud-path" is a machine that creates clouds (you needed it earlier to get to Celika or what it's called). Store one in a magnus and use it at that rift. The part about the rifts is a bit tiresome but it picks up pace afterwards again.

Thanks for that konfucious, I knew it would be something simple like that - isnt it always?
Ive got things happening again. Anyone remember Wazn? That place was exhausting even me, all that trudging through the snow. It was cool at first but it was so slow! Anyway the place was very nice and the music was kinda sad in the castle, kinda reminded me of Links Awakening.
Now Ive got it saved in the Empire. Im a few floors up the place and found a save point in Geldoblames throne room so I took the opportunity to save it and turn it off.
Tis a good game though, theres no doubting it.

phew... finally reached "THAT" battle.. tried it once and got my butt kicked.. im probably never gonna try again.. it's just to much sitting there waiting (endlessly) while the 3 finish their moves.. Giacomo "Speed of the turtle"..
anyway it also just got to much for me.. how stupid can they be? THEY KNOW that every time they reach a goal somebody comes in the door and spoils it for them.. but they are just as surprised every time..
Rest in peace Baten Kaitos

Baten Kaitos DS is rumoured to be cancelled, but we'll see.

Just starting playing this game again due to the holidays starting and I've got to say, it's truely is a beutiful game. I used to not mind the voice acting but now it grates on me for some reason, probably because between playing it I've played games with far superior voice acting.
Question.
Is it worth filling your deck with those cards that are only do something when combined with other cards? Like having firewood in your inventory in the hope that it will come up with a fire card so it can combine to make a big combo.
I just play it safe and pack the deck with about half attacking, half defensive, and a couple of healing and a camera. is there a recommended ratio for attack and defensive cards as it's happended to a few times wereyou get a whole line-up of unusuable cards in battles, like a whole list of defensive cards.

Like having firewood in your inventory in the hope that it will come up with a fire card so it can combine to make a big combo. What I do with those cards is purposefully set some time aside to put them all in my deck and go and fight some really easy enemies.
Getting the new combo cards that way means it's not just a matter of luck that you get the combo, because your deck is setup for it.
It also means the deck isn't full of useless cards (in the hope of getting a combo) when I continue with the story!
A lot of poeple seem to dislike the voice acting in baten kaitos. Personally i think its great. I've just started playing through it again aswell and it has one of of the best soundtracks ive herad in a game.

The soundtrack was fantastic. One of the best in any game. Voice acting is ok. Kalas was pretty good, the others were not so good.
Mizuti must be the most annoying character ever though. Just wanted to thump it and tell it to shut up.
The other really annoying aspect was the blank magnus cards and having to capture essence in them over and over again, which was really slow etc.
But it's a brill game I completed.

I've just listened to Chaotic dance 2. One weird little track now. And I'm sure I heard the line they'll F*** your head up.
Completed this game yesterday. It was a great game even though it took me
about 8 hours before I started liking the battle system.
How long does it take to get the celestial flower from the celestial flower bud? And can you even get azha salt from somewhere?
At one point in the game I thought it would be cool if I could kill Kalas but then I realized he was the main character so I knew it wouldn't happen.
I don't really see why people like it's sound track so much. The only track I really liked was The true mirror ~Guitar version~
