Who's in your four? I have Lloyd, Collette, Kratos and Sheena. Occasionally I let the others in too.
The3rdChildren
17-09-2005, 12:29 AM
Lloyd, Sheena, Raine and Genis. Lloyd because he's so much fun to control, Sheena because of the off-chance I can summon when she goes into over-limit. Raine because of her brilliant support spells, and of course the midget Genis with his amazing magic attacks. He gets so strong at the end of the game it's almost unreal. If I need to switch a character out, usually Sheena gets swapped.

I always control Lloyd, and usually had Raine in my party at least because of healing. for the others it depended on who/what I was fighting.

Lloyd as my controlled character
Raine for healing abilities
Genis for his uber magic spells (although I used Collette for the big skeleton demon dude due to her spells being super effective)
Kratos because he can cast some pretty cool spells but is also good close up

Too bad we lost all the info from the CE tread ;_; Its been such a long journey.
Anyway, playing ToS for the 13th time now, I always use:
Lloyd, Sheena, Raine, Genis.
But it doesnt matter really cause Lloyd owns most of the enemies anyway n_n, but I prefer these guys in my party.
Actually, I find other characters difficult to use, like, well magic users are abit boring to play as, cause its simple press one button and wait.
Collette I can't fight with, shes so annoying to use.
Kratos and Zelos are cool, specially since they can do a 6 hit combo and have a wide variety of level 1 and 2 spells.
I like to play as Regal cause he has cool attacks but still hard to control, specially if yer used to Lloyd.
Presea is good, but abit slow.
I did beat all the stadium challenges with all characters though.
I'm trying to get a complete item list now and saving up ExGem Max's for everyone n_n

I did the same thing, played it through once, started again immediately, and got as far as releasing the first seal (in Triet). But then I picked it up again last Saturday, and finished it for the second time this Saturday, and started it for the third time. I love this game.

Also the colluseum can keep you busy for a whiel and some other stuff I cant come up with now.

Actually theres something that had me stumped, near the beginning someone gives you a letter and I never got it delivered! I thought I was thorough in my going to each town, going from house to house and talking to everyone... but obviously not because I never spoke to anyone (was it an Alfred?) that took the letter from me.

Here is what you do:
*****(tiny) spolier*****
At a certain time in the game, you get to rebuild the ruined city of Luin. You are supposed to pay Pietro (the guy you saved earlier on) about 20 times. And there are specific amaounts that need to be paid. ( dont know them by heart but I can look into that for you) Paying too much wont be deducted from the next payment and paying too little is no good either.
Next; when the city is rebuild, you must go to the new docks and you will find the guy yer looking for and you deliver the letter. Next follows an event just pay close attention and you'll know what to do. It reults in getting the best headgear in the game and you get Lloyds pirate costume and title "Argh me hearties" And some other stuff n_n
*****end tiny spoiler*****
Hope that helps
--Ray
BTW: there is a "bug" in the game that makes it very easy to get cash fast. In the Earth seal dungeon there is a dragon, beating it will give you 10.000 gald. Now equip the item that gives you double cash, or Sheena's weapon to get even more cash out of it n_n. Though not really a bug, they got rid of it in the PS2 version of ToS n_n.

n_n very welcome my friend. And well you did miss a couple of things yes, but its not vital to beating the game. You can get each chracters second best weapon here too. They cost alot but they are worth it. n_n of course you wont use em once ya have the best ones.

I found most boss battles to be really easy. I wasn't overleveled though.
The only ones that gave me some trouble are:
Kvar, because of those robots. They kept comboing me. I only lost once though and the second time I won easily.
Abbysion, lost only once or twice. You just have to be alert on your hp all the time.
What is everyone else's hardest boss?

Hardest boss huh? Well I seemd to have some trouble with Volt, when I was playing my friend's savegame... At that pointyer very weak (unless you trained loads) And the bastard killed all my teammates, and I would have died too had I not used that ultra rare item that freezes the enemies (it was however only for about a second) n_n had I not done that I would have lost.
But usually on my own savegames I dont have any problems with bosses.
But I'd have to say:

Yeah, I have to say "that" particular plot diversion -really- made the game a lot more emotionally impacting. His death really did open the door for a certain traitor to return... and of course there rammifications of a party member dying.

Shit, still being on my first play through (ermmm I've just given presea her key crest ^^;) I'm worried about reading this thread properly. lol Really wish there was some way to tell how far through these spoilers are in the game. lol
My party gets changed quite a bit, but, it's normally Lloyd, Genis, Zelos/Kratos and.... Presea..... I just think she's a cool character and like Genis loves her so yea..... ^^;
Really enjoying showing off Zelos' annoying self by taking items from all the girls. XD
Also instead of doing a quick jump after giving Presea her key crest I went to Altessa's house amd spoke to that random girl twice..... She gave me a curry recipe once and a loud of items including a ex-sphere shard.......... Would I have got these no matter when I spoke to her or is the quick jump put in to make people miss them?

The easiest way to win any boss battle is too play with more human players. The AI is okay but some bosses especially if you are under leveled are quite hard on your own. My girlfriend mostly plays with Raine and I play with either Kratos or Loyd.
Only problem I had is with a side quest boss ... too though with level 45 (at least it was for me) but the reward is nice!

Perhaps embarrassing, but the first seal that you unlock with the firey dog demons caused me the most grief. I must have died there like seven or eight times before I scraped through with a victory.
To ease my shame though, I didnt struggle on any other of the bosses. I think I died maybe twice more in the rest of the game.

Sheesh been a loooong time since I played this game, sorry casper wish I could help but off memory I can't remember and my cousin is borrowing my memory card so I can't really check for you...
I loved this game and I'm feeling nostalgic, I should really get my card back so I can play. It's funny I played through it 3 times but what really suprised me is that my sister played it more than me! It was like the first game she played in YEARS since like Super Mario Bros. 3 or something like that. Yeah... we both stopped playing after I started another play through and accidentally saved over her file >__<
I did the same thing with Baten Kaitos when she hit the second cd... I think I'm starting to remember why she stopped playing games all those years ago .__.

from a narrowminded view I kinda hope it sells badly, because they shouldn't ignore a install base like us, who even supported them, tales of destiny and tales of eternia came out on US on PSone and sold crap.
It's not like I mind a PS2 version, but I don't like them ignoring the cube after releasing a best-seller for it, above all symphonia pretty much put "Tales" series on the map in US and europe, the sequel being exclusive to other system is like turning their back on us, I for one can't really buy a PSTwo for it.
Although I heard Tales of legendia is not as good... It'll also sell based on the name of it's predecessor, a exclusive gamecube game (outside of japan). I bought a PSone almost for Tales of Phantasia (NTSC JP), Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny II/Eternia (NTSC), the later two not up to the standard of the original Tales of Phantasia, but still I didn't complain, I will do so this time, after tales of symphonia outing, letting it out of GC is just... stupid...
I remember Legendia being also stated as a gamecube game, I wonder why it isn't (they should still port it, dammit).

Just a heads up for any fans of Starry Heavens, the Japanese opening theme to Tales of Symphonia by Day After Tomorrow. I was browsing some forums last night and came across a sort of instrumental version of the theme. It's pretty good if you like the original piece:
It can be obtained here (http://www.tales-central.com/Starry%20Heavens%20Remix%20No%20Lyrics.zip)

In my opinion, so much better than the "final" music, because the trailer was made for "day after tomorrow" not the new orchestrated music made for it (not saying it's bad though).
It sounds too... midi... though, the original rock version would be better, only without lyrics...

im not the guy to make a thread for myself unless its of real inmportance, so ill post it here as it does have some relevnace to TOS.
my question is, which of these three games should i get: TOS, mario strikers or battalion wars. i only have enough for one:( hopefully i can get one of them cheaper than £30, i really want a good rpg to play through before the rev and zelda get here. however i want something wih a load of action in it, like mario football and battalion wars. so could someone please tell me which one i should get which would please me the longest? and is the most fun

If you want a long game then go with Tales but if you want a fun game get Battalion Wars. Im not saying Tales isnt fun im just saying that I got more enjoyment out of Battalion.
The problem for me with Tales is although I enjoyed it the battle system was annyoying. All you really have to do is hammer away on the A button. There were many a time when I was reading a mag while playing and I wasnt even looking at the screen as I was just pressing A and I still won. It does have a great storyline though. Personally I would recommend Baten Kaitos over Tales if you havent got it yet.

For some reason they didnt make Battalion Wars multi-player, the fools. I havent played mazza footy but I will pick it up as it looks great and sounds great plus the mulit-player is supposed to be very hectic and fun. If you want to read about it look at the Mario Footy thread somewhere on the cube board as many are playing it and loving it.

I think legendia's look and feel isn't as appealing as Symphonia everything just looks hard and sharp while symphonia had that warm soft glow to everything aka the "muddy" look. As for our version of the symphonia intro, I have an mp3 for it but it refuses to play in anything other than winamp.

I think legendia's look and feel isn't as appealing as Symphonia everything just looks hard and sharp while symphonia had that warm soft glow to everything aka the "muddy" look. As for our version of the symphonia intro, I have an mp3 for it but it refuses to play in anything other than winamp. They say legendia has a good story although the artwork didn't really grow on me... They also say the game in the whole is worse, the thing is... We all know that if the game was coming out on GC like it should we'd buy it.
I'm currently finally playing Tales of Symphonia, and it is the best "Tales of" game since phantasia, but it's not better than phantasia, not even on-par with it... Symphonia some times appears to be a ToPhantasia in 3D and it's beautiful, no other game in the series does it.
Here's a new interview about Tales of Phantasia... it talks quite a little about Symphonia and all:
When it comes to epic role playing games, the "Tales" series is building quite a reputation; Tales of Symphonia has already proven a sizeable hit on GameCube, and now Tales of Phantasia is set to do the same on Game Boy Advance.
What is it that sets Phantasia apart from the other fantasy titles out there? We spoke to Makoto Yoshidumi, the Producer behind the game - and he had plenty to say.
Nintendo of Europe: Can you briefly introduce the story in Tales of Phantasia?
Makoto Yoshidumi: "The story centres on two young boys - Chester and Cress. Cress has been schooled in the art of swordsmanship by his father Miguel, a master swordsman. One day the two young lads set off for the woods and while they are away something attacks their village, killing their families. The two boys run around trying to confront and defeat this enemy but it soon becomes apparent that the incident in the village is part of a larger plot. Soon our two heroes are joined by Mint, a healer, Arche, a sorceror and Class, a bounty hunter and their adventure unravels across time and space. Where will it take them in the end?"
NoE: When Tales of Phantasia first appeared, it was never released outside of Japan. Can you tell us why you feel the time is right now to bring the game to Europe?
Yoshidumi: "Our initial opinion was that 'RPGs with a strong animation element' would not be well received overseas. Recently however, with the release of certain games and in particular Symphonia for the GameCube our approach to this matter has undergone a significant change."
NoE: Are there any differences between the original game and this version for GBA?
Yoshidumi: "New sub-scenarios and mini games, in addition to new characters that have been added to these new sections, will appear for the first time in the Game Boy Advance version."
NoE: Can you tell us about some of the hardships that await the hero Cress?
Yoshidumi: "Standing in Cress' way is Daos - not merely the 'embodiment of evil' looking to wipe out all life on this planet - instead Daos is looking to rescue this planet and the rest of the universe in his own way. There is a big difference between the concepts of 'peace' as thought of by Cress and by Daos. This gives Cress a lot of food for thought as his adventure unfolds."
NoE: The combat system is unique for a handheld RPG. Can you explain what makes it so compelling?
Yoshidumi: "Up to this point in time, most RPGs had a 'command input' approach to combat elements in their games. The "Tales of..." series of games uses a combat system that is close to that of an action game. The reason for this is to allow the gamer to sense the stress and nervousness of combat against the various enemies and monsters that one encounters during the adventure. Combat like this - 'let's team up and fight' - prompts the gamer to feel a stronger bond with the other characters."
NoE: There is even a cooking system in the game, which enables players to cook their own food and even create potions from the ingredients they find on their adventure, correct? Is this a major part of the game and what are the benefits for the player?
Yoshidumi: "I would not say it was a major part of the game, but I do believe that gamers will enjoy this aspect. During the development of the game someone said "Won't these guys get hungry on such a long adventure? If they take it in turns to prepare and cook food for the others, that will make them closer as a group.' The concept stems from a sincere attempt to enrich the gameplay."
NoE: What would you say it is that makes Tales of Phantasia stand out from typical RPGs?
Yoshidumi: "In terms of the game systems, I think it's the unique combat system and cooking sub-system that make us stand out from the crowd. That and the audio (despite the fact that the game is stored on a ROM cartridge!) together with the affinity that our audience now has with our animation style, the landscapes and the character depiction. The other important factor is the story and our emphasis on a good yarn. Any game that carries 'Tales' in the title cannot be a mere linear story-based RPG."
NoE: Many GameCube owners loved Tales of Symphonia. In what way is Tales of Phantasia linked to that title?
Yoshidumi: "The two games - Symphonia and Phantasia - are set in the same world. Phantasia decribes a world a few thousand years older than that of Symphonia. In this respect, several proper nouns and names are the same in both games. If you choose to play Symphonia through to the end of the game and then you begin your adventure with Phantasia, you'll see that many puzzles and riddles are answered."
NoE: Can we expect to see further "Tales of..." games coming to Europe in the future?
Yoshidumi: Please look forward to some more "Tales of..." games appearing in the future. We are all working hard on the next game in the series.
NoE: Thanks for your time.
Tales of Phantasia is released on Game Boy Advance on 31 March.Source: http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/en/GB/editorial/article.do?elementId=4L4kW3R6D3wg1x7sRqr0ftnCRgp4U UOI
All this said... I seems to me like we're getting ToP as a change tip from namco, I mean... ToP is my favorite game ever and all... but porting it to the GBA is very cheap (specially when that port was already made in 2003 in Japan), cheap compared to porting Legendia for us... they say that Symphonia is the game that put Tales on the map outside japan, and this is true...
The first two outings on Psone sold pretty badly in US... Symphonia is "players choice" on GC and the first "Tales of" to be released in Europe... it's like they are ignoring us releasing Legendia exclusive on PS2, it feels pretty bad, we did all we could to secure a follow up with the sales we gave the to ToS.

Well the GameCube is dead, so why would they release Legendia on it?I'm not saying they should make it exclusive just that we should get it aswell, they go to a interview saying what symphonia did for the good of the series outside of Japan (and it's true), but somehow we don't get a sequel, PS2 had Tales of Symphonia ported over, either way... they wouldn't loss profits on doing so.
And GC is not really dead... that's the same as saying "why releasing Baten Kaitos II there" for example, the cube is RPG starved. the truth is Symphonia sold good... they ought to keep a audience satisfied, as it'll pay off in the future.
If they really wanted to release it and sell shift lots of units they could easily do it... like releasing Legendia in US and european shores right before Revolution launches... Even if it was already released on PS2 for months, lots of people would pick it up when buying a revo, revolution will not have lots of RPG's at launch, a GC game released at that time to cover this could shift some considerable units... It's not like Namco wants to release the game and can't it's more like: "they don't want to".

I'd be happy with even a TOS directors cut or special edition. For some reason I just crave the action rpg genre. I've always hated FF games due to the amount of waiting that you had to do only to die at the last hurdle. One thing I've never liked about some of them (they worked round this in Kaitos so I was ok with it) is the fact you can't defend yourself. Sometimes you manage to block an attack but you never know how or why you were able to do it. Enough rambling, I'll just work on a 100% complete save file.

If that's all true I don't think I'd rather play it over my perfectly translated SNES rom... I'd probably get it anyway because it's portable and we need to show Namco-Bandai that the "Tales of..." series is gathering momentum in Europe.

As for ToP jokes... seems a little over the line compared to what we've seen in ToS.
And yes lets show them Tales series sells in Nintendo consoles, while a 11 year old port sells better than legendia in europe, they'll wish they ported Tales of legendia over :maniac laugher:

I'll be getting Tales of Phantasia though, IGN already has a review for it:
-> http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/692/692370p1.html
It doesn't make the game's justice by any means... I mean... FF IV had 8,6 there... So this game deserved a 9.0 to 9.5 and because it is a inferior verion... (although they seem to like the graphical updates from the GBA version).
ahhh... enough rambling this is the Tales of Symphonia thread...
Anyway... being Tales of symphonia the only game to have a real and known relation to ToPhantasia (I think) as a prequel... it's also the only game in the series who really has 3D battles and not just horizontal scrooling... I can stop from seying ToTT as a spiritual sequel to ToS because it really goes down that path in battle system when the "Tales of" in Sony consoles returned to the "Tales of Eternia" kind. It's like seeing two diferent breeds for the same series at the same time... and I must say, after playing ToS I think I like this breed the most. :)
ToTT couldn't come sooner (let's hope it gets released in Europe)

He tries to take Lloyds body, Sheena does something like tell Lloyd to fight it. And then Mithos just decides to take Sheena's body instead. After that Lloyd only cares about saving Sheena. ok ive asked a couple of times, but i really want a good rpg to last me a very long time, until zelda comes of course.
so do i choose Tales of Symphonia or Skies of Arcadia?
ive heard that both games are really good and last ages, but which would last me longer and i would get into easier and has an easier and nicer looking battle scheme etc?

Obviously for battles its Tales of Symphonia... but the turn based ones in Skies were good, more epic and less frantic.
Both will last ages, Tales has reasonably good replay value for an RPG, though Ive only done it once for the time being.
There both easy to get into as far I remember, but Tales maybe moreso nowadays because its easier to look at, not that Im implying youre a graphics fanatic or anything.
You should really get them both and I cant possibly choose for you because I found them both really charming and fun for different reasons. Skies is hard to get your mitts on so Tales for a quick fix?

I don't think there's any question over which has the best battle system (Symphonia hands down). Skies also had those rediculously annoying random battles.
But I actually preferred Skies as a game. Length and difficulty is definitely greater than Tales, but what got me was the epicness of it. Although Skies probably didn't take me much longer than Tales, it felt like a much bigger game, which is top priority for me when it comes to RPGs.
I'd say Skies peronally, buts that only cause I preffered it.
You know what get both, judge for yourself.

It's wierd because I remember discussing a follow up to Tales a few months back, and we came up with some good ideas. But for me Skies has always been the one that could do with a sequal.
The thing with skies is that despite it being a brilliant game there are so many areas which could be improved upon for a sequal, for instance:
-No random battles (but thats a given)
-Update the graphics (not a big thing for me, got used to it in the original, but you could really kick some visual ass with a follow up)
-Do something with the battle system. Don't take it into real time or anything, cause then you'd lose the incredible special attacks (especially Vyse's were cool, those never got old) but speed it up a little bit. Open to suggestions
-I know dungeons tend to be crap in most RPGs (boring, simple puzzles and a lack of imagination) but someone has got to get it right sometime. Just copy Zelda, I don't care, really
-Bigger (I know it was big, but you know)
-The ability to dock other ships and loot them, like real pirates
It's been a while since i've played it, so i'm a little rusty on the plot, but maybe set it in the future, a later generation of the cresent island pirates maybe (forgotten their name).
I'd like a Rev version. Use the FHC to control ship, like toy plane? I don't know, taking ideas off the top of my head. Point and select for battles, make it quicker.
Oh and plenty of pirate hookers.............plenty

Skies of Arcadia II is my no.1 "I wish this would happen" game, without a shadow of a doubt. If SoA2 was announced I'd explode, and I'd have to get whatever console it came out on(although I have a 360 and getting a Rev so should be okay...). Same goes for Shenmue III.
But anyway back to Tales of Symphonia...although there are many Tales games i'd personally love a sequel as the characters are so likeable. I had a thought a while ago and I wonder if its possible for IN GAME graphics of a next gen Tales game to look like the FMV in ToS. It would be incredible.

I've tried looking at gamefaqs but it doesn't tell me its whereabouts. It says it should be right next to you after the nest of flying dragons but I had to go back to some other places before I could get to the temple of earth. Any sort of direction would be helpful.

Wow, just started palying this again after a couple of months of not playing and i can't stress enough how good and fun the batttle system is. Simply great. Just finished the darkness dungeons and all the skits and dialogue seem to be suggesting like I'm right before the end yet I'm still not on the second disc... it's odd to get so much play time( something like 45 hours) out of only one disc when there are two in total.

in tethe'alla. go to the north most point of the 'west island'. the earth temple doesnt look very 'temple-like' as the past ones have... its just a crevice looking thing. straight after the dragon fight, you are flying above it... its just not that noticeable, and it helps if you are on the ground to find it.
hope this helps!

Isnt it great how the threads for the Cubes couple of great RPGs keep makin their way to the top of the page? My turn to weigh in with a point this time and listen up Tales fans and fanatics (if there is indeed a difference!), Ive high hopes of this turning into a decent discussion.
I was reading down a thread there in the Handheld area, could well have been the Spring time release dates one. Anyway, someone about here has an avatar with Raine in it. That set off a little thought chain in my head... I think I posted this briefly way back when on the old forums and it didnt get picked up on/ I forgot about it and didnt bother comin back to it when I finished the game... anyway, what am I babbling on about here eh? Bare with me just a little longer, ok?
Its been a few years but I think this was in the deserty town near the start of the game where Lloyd gets penned as a wanted criminal and posters appear. In the hotel or wherever it is theyre staying Raine gets her hands on the Cruxis...? Hmm I cant remember what the plot was doing at this point, but she gets something important! And there's this cutscene with her in her room and shes like yes Ive got it now, mwahahah and her eyes change colour.
Your all still with me yeah? I thought this was her being set up to be a villainous old tart out to take over the world for herself, or she was atleast in cahoots with the big baddies... but nothing ever came of it.
Anyone care to discuss this?

I love the graphics, the story, all the characters (Rain & Sheena), combat style. i like everything about it.

Raine was just happy about having an exsphere. She wanted one because pretty much everyone else had one but her. And so that is that. Oh and Divine Judgement is the best attack you can use in the game. Well one of the best attacks. All the other Hi-ougi's take too long to unlock.

I'm fairly sure I'm just nearing the end of the game.
Although the story started out a wee bit exactly like Final Fantasy X it actually elvolves and changes so much through out I'd say the plot in the end surpasses Final Fantasy X, as does the rest of the game as a whole.
The plot is gripping throughout and has more unexpected plot twists you could shake a stick at which keeps the game interesting.
Also, I loved all the sidequests. I 've never really felt the need to do them in other RPGs but with Tales you feel you really want to do them, not the usual feeling of fetch quests which have just been tacked to add to the game's lifespan.
The Tales quests are really rewarding quests.
For example the Luin task (don't want to ruin it for anyone that doesn't know what it is) but the final 3 parts of it just made me feel real happy when You get statues of Lloyd and co put up around the town and the weapon shop eventually selling the uber powerful weapons.
Also the sidequests are wrapped into the game, not a thing you just go around doing before the final battle like many other games.
Take the cooking, it provides a cool alternative to just gobbling down potion sand gave the game a more novel interesting touch, with added extra ingredients adding different effects and the constant joke of Raine's inability to cook with her star rating always next nothing. I was always on the look out for those odd items which yielded the master chef so the sidequest is constantly being played out throughout the game.
Much like Colette's dog quest which although basic in premise is charmingly fun to do and again keeps you on the look out for pooches.
Also the dialogue within the game is great and the skits, although sadly not voiced acted (Japan version was though) or not having the option to scroll through it, they add a nice quirky dimension of humour. Take for example one time when I backtracking through some dungeon, there was a skit in which Lloyd moaned that there wasn't a quickjump, much to the confusion of Raine and other characters. These small snippets of dialogue, another example of Zelos chatting up 6 year olds and making deals to meet them in 15 years time:shock: really added the game enjoyability and also allows player to really get to know and feel for the characters.
As you can see I truely love this game. However it wasn't like I was always a fanboy of the Tales series of whatever, I just picked this game up as I'm a fan of RPGs and I played first 15 hours and thought it was allright, but not naer a classic, and then a couple months later I picked it up again when a had a lot of spare time and I really played and to be honest it picks up so much. Anyone who doesn't complete this game doesn't do it justice. So if you won the game and have stopped playing it I urge and compell you to pick it up again, read the synopsis and get involved.
I promise you, it is an amazing amazing game which in my opinion bests Final Fantasy X, and most certainly X-2.
I'm just thankful that Nintendo decided to get involved in the game as they greatly aided the translation process, which is one of the main reasons that the game came out on these shores. Just look at the PS2 version... never realeased here due to Sony, (or another party) not willing to help translate it.

telling the story about Kratos, yggdrasil... etc... while they were young...
It could be great if they did something like...
Martel having a affair with kratos and yggdrasil with his sister complex
would go bollocks with the ideaIf they were to make a sequel... well it's already a prequel to ToP, there are places that are equal I'd like to have a game between the two games, closing the gap, etc. (but not with the same characters)

Oh i didn't know the difference between prequel and sequel, and what you wrote in the hidden message would be a Great story. I just hope that Namco realise that ToS fans want another one. :grin:If... they release a "Tales of" game in Revolution it will probably have some relation with ToPhantasia, and thus, ToSymphonia(IMO)...
Tales of Phantasia was the only previously released game on a Nintendo console... followed by ToS who is the only one in the series that has a direct conection to another game.
I don't think It makes sense to stray from that formula (well... perhaps on TotT in DS, it does) because there's so much to be told. so yeah, I hope we get a "Tales" exclusive for Revolution.
And... after seeing Red Steel I'd like in-game graphics like this:
http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/article/653/653496/fire-emblem-path-of-radiance-20050923024651319.jpg
http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/article/653/653496/fire-emblem-path-of-radiance-20050923024702287.jpg
That could be, next gen cell-shading (based on Fire Emblem:PoRadiance FMV's) but Namco could drop the "chibi"/miniature representation in-game, trying to close the gap betwen the game and the FMV's.

Just completed ToS today. What a fantastic game it is, definetley one of my favourite games of this generation. Great lifespan too, I cloced 50 hours and I'm sure I didn't do everything.
Found the final boss a bit easy though... but I guess that's becasue I had all the best weapons (like Zelos' baseball bat) and I was quite highley levelled due to the fact I tended to go for battles instead of avoiding them like other games becasue the battle system is just so darn fun.

What? This is news to me? Are you saying Tales of Phantasia coming to the GBA takes place in the same world as Symphonia?
I love to see both a prequal to TOS and a sequal, the prequal telling the story of Kratos and Mithos (as mentioned before) and the sequal about Lloyd quest to get rid of the exshperes.
FOr me TOS was the Ocarina of Time of the Gamecube, everything about it sucked me in and wouldn't let go, gameplay, characters, stroy, the world that was created, all amzaing.:bouncy:
I remember when i first got it and was going on holiday a few weeks later, the last night before i left i still hadn't finished the game and where i was i thought it was nearly over so i said i'd get it finished... needless to say it was one of those times when it looked like the end but it really wasn't. But it still looked like it was nearly there so i kept saying "Ok i'll finish this and then go to bed", but everytime i completed my "goal" another twist or something would happen and again i'd say "Ok i'll finish this then go to bed"....
In the end i did finish the game before going on holiday... however i didn't get to bed that night, and i actually mean that, i'm not exagertaing i must have played 12 hours straight maybe more that day/night/morning, not even Ocarina of Time had me glued to my control pad like TOS did.
I'm really looking forward to TOP on the GBA and TOTT on DS because of TOS, but i'm still aware that only a true sequal to TOS would satisfy me. I just want to see the characters grow more and explore that world again... prolly mostly due to the characters, they were so great you actually related to them like real people.:weep:
Oh and BTW... SHEENA OWNZ all the ladies in in the game, especially in the formal dress she gets. I normally don't like choosing to be "mean" when i play games, but with Collette i make an exception so Lloyd and Sheena end up together (come on that match makes much more sense). In fact if ever i was to Cosplay i'd be Lloyd and i'd get (force) me girlfriend to be Shena:awesome:

Yes :) Symphonia is a prequel to it, you have familiar places and some references, thus Phantasia can be considered a real sequel with diferent characters (but pretty good ones)... I could go into more detail but that would spoil it :)
But I have to say... they Raped ToP GBA a lot... voice acting is horrible, graphics were toned down, animation is slower... music was wattered down... And they cut down "echii"(perverted) scenes!

Yeah but that slyph temple was giving me a hard time so I gave up. And the random battles suck. From now on all RPG's should be like tales and Baten Kaitos. NO RANDOM BATTLES.Well... I've got nothing bad to say about random battles... sure I wouldn't like ToS or Baten to have them... but I wouldn't like ToP or FF3 to lack them in the same way...
I get the shivers when a toned/watered down version of ToP gets on US stores and IGN says "this is for hardcore old-school gamers, random battles are too often" when I play the game and see "OMG they toned down the random battle frequency by 3 times" or so... I feel like... they are complaining about nothing you know? it was no big problem a few years back and it isn't today, only if people are being picky...
I try to judge the games for what they are, not for what they aren't... I enjoy them better that way.
I played and enjoyed the game as it was and it was perfect that way (it's my favorite game next to Majora Mask) I feel like... messing with the random battles is like screwing a classic game, it's better to leave it as is.

But from what you said about the GBA version (which is odd since the GBA has more power than the SNES you'd think they'd add to it not take away), i'm gonna hope that Namco jump on the Revo's Virtual Console so i can get the SNES version.the thing is... they raped it...
I thought of making a comparative for Revo-Europe, but I never finished it... I just did 3 screenies and I'll leave those here for judgement:
it's all SNES(left) -> GBA(right)
http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/1330/top08ec.png
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/7194/top8wc.png
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/7112/top27xn.png
See, the graphics were raped to no recognition, the backgrounds were all hand-made now they are horribly generic... the sprites were changed and lack detail (look at the shields), the color palete was mixed up to make the game brighter for GBA...
But the worst is the battle engine it's so slow and "robotical" now, it doesn't feel at all like the ToP I know. I couldn't bare with it.
As for sound... they took the music "The Dream will Never Die" from the opening (the first ever sang music in a videogame), and instead of making a new one (like ToS)... they just threw in the overworld map music :/ the music on SNES was really good, now on ToP GBA it seems like NES music... The voice acting looks pretty retarded too.
Another take:
Like most SNES to GBA ports, this version is watered-down! The lesser quality is most obvious when you view the battle animations and hear the soundtrack. Tales of Phantasia's soundtrack is one of my most favorites. To hear it watered-down is a traumatizing experience!
The battles feel slower. They shouldn't have used the battle sprites from the PSX version because I think they're too big for GBA's screen. They look bloated and they irritate me. The English release removed the J-Pop song and credits from the opening. The bland English voice acting doesn't get my adrenaline pumping at all.
Several aspects of background detail was removed, like birds no longer fly in the background and your reflection no longer shows in water.
------------------------------
As for... how it fits in the story...
Some fan's say it's 4000 years... I pretty much doubt that.

Damn, just looking at those screen comparisions... i actually don't think the sprites are "that" bad, with the exception of the detail on the sheilds and weapons i think the GBA sprites look better..However seeing as it is a GBA game those sprites are a bit big for the screen, the SNES sprites would have been loads better. And the backgrounds are MUCH better on the SNES ones, thats shocking, i thought they said the GBA was more powerful than the SNES?
And its a shame you say the voice acting is poor cuz in TOS it was top class IMO. One of the reasons the characters were so indearing(sp?)... hell i didn't even think they'd get much voice acting onto a GBA kart :p

something i've always wondered...where do they get the names from? Like Symphonia? Does it mean something?[/SPOILER]for me the SNES sprites have more personality, they are one of the last sprites made manually, no CG there and they didn't look like... "chibi".
lastly while GBA is more powerful, it's screen can't display as many colors as SNES did, so colourful games pushing the pallete often have to be toned down, but that's not why it ended up like this... the battles are slower now, it's simply not enjoyable, it just shows that this was a crappy port.
As for where they do get the names... No idea... Symphonia I can understand, but the others I don't. I don't think it really has a meaning though.
Voice acting is terrible on TOP ,I played it for a few min and went 'time for break'the thing is... voice acting is perfect (for 1994 standards) in the original ToP SNES, it was really a cheap work they did there with the GBA version. It really hurts my ears...
but Mokong X-C they didn't fit whole dialogs in the cartridge it's just grunts like link, when in battle they scream things like "heal" and stuff like that... it's nothing major, really.
ToP SNES could have all that top quality (including a singed music) taking up 6 MB... and this one worse in everything... takes up 8 MB it's really the lammest port I've ever seen, sadly.

This is a real shame, you'd think after the success of TOS they'd give TOP GBA proper attention to detail instead of a lazy port, especially seeing as TOS would have brought loads of new "Tales of" fans (like me) begging for another "Tales of" game.
I think i'll wait till E3, with any luck Namco will announce Rev Virtual Console support and TOP SNES will make the list. Knowning the GBA version is a lackluster attempt of port is a lot like when Hollywood remakes asian horror films:shakehead
As for where they do get the names... No idea... Symphonia I can understand,
Really? Explain please:)
The only way i can get "symphonia" into the game is in the ending
when you're asked to give the new Giant Tree a name and Lloyd says
"I got it, the tree will be called..." and its cut off,
I can't help but say "Symphonia"
I also would love to see an Anime series based on TOS, i wouldn't care that i'd know the story, it would just be really great to see that story play out with gorgeous anime animation:awesome:

It could have some deep meaning... because the only related titles in the series are Symphonia and Phantasia... Phantasia although coming close to Fantasy (it could be named like that because Final Fantasy), can also be associated with music... being used to describe a medley of familiar themes (with variations and interludes).
I hope so too, I want ToP SNES on my Rev ^_^
We know in ToPhantasia what name Lloyd gave to the Giant Tree,
and it's not Symphonia, I assure you
There's a Tales of Phantasia Anime (4 episodes), who was finished last month, I doubt they'll do a ToS anime but hey... Phantasia is related :heh:

Well namco seem to have dropped all ia endings from their tales games from now. Their all Tempest, Abyss and some other tales game I have now forgotten.
But if Phantasia is supposed to be older than Symphonia ( although I'm pretty sure it was the other way around) How do we find out what Lloyd named the tree if he wasn't alive yet?
Phantasia---------------4000 years---------------------Symphonia?????
Maybe it's just a mistake by NOE.

Maybe it's just a mistake by NOE.Although Phantasia came out first (1994)... Symphonia is a prequel to it, so Lloyd wasn't alive in Phantasia becase he had already died.
I don't think NoE said that, in the interview they talked about "several thousand years after" not even milenia, and that's also Namco's story, so I'm sticking with that, but there are fans who claim 4000 years, don't ask me why. But it really doesn't matter anyway.
Abyss is out in Japan already so it's not considered "in development..."
the following are the registered new titles besides "the Tempest":
* Tales of Howling
* Tales of Two Faiths
* Tales of Doom Sign
Who knows... one of them might be slated for Revolution... sadly Namco has been releasing too much "Tales of" games this generation, the sales for the series are decreasing in Japan... that's why delaying "the Tempest" was a pretty smart move.

Ten10

Yeah Legendia seems to be the last game ending in ia. Namco seem to have dropped the whole ia thing now which I think helped to define the tales series in the same way FF games are I-XII or whatever they are on now. I personally don't like the 2d battle system in legendia. Fighting on one plain isn't as fun as the 3d battle system. Also the main character fights with knucle braces I think which I don't think is a cool weapon for a leader to have. Its all about swords and Giant Iron cleavers.

I didn't even no about the tales series till i played symphonia so i guess i got a lot of catching up to do :)It's not that good, but Legendia would never come out on gamecube... only tales of the Abyss...
Allow me too explain (also why there's so many games coming out) there was a team created for GC Tales game, that's "Team Symphonia", the only other game they did this generation is Tales of the Abyss (A natural sucessor, using the same engine), and it should be pretty damn good, better than symphonia even (I'd bought it if I had a PS2).
then you have "Team Destiny", who did Tales of Destiny II, Legendia and Rebirth, this generation... (they also did Eternia, and the first Destiny for PSone).
Anyway... Team Symphonia pownz Team Destiny :heh: in every possible way (they also don't release games that often)... shame Abyss isn't coming to GC.Yeah Legendia seems to be the last game ending in ia. Namco seem to have dropped the whole ia thing now(...)Sorry... you lost me there, what's this "IA" thing? I can't figure it out...
The only thing finishing I can think of... is that I heard (dunno if it's confirmed) that "Team Destiny" is getting disbanded after "Tales of the Tempest"... but I don't even know for sure if they are indeed making TotT... so please explain :)

tales of phantasia is conected to tos it happens after.
mithos created the summon spirits then summoned them sheena broke that pact and created a new one meaning she was the second to summon them later (in top) clause summons them and so that is proof that top happens after tos.

Sorry for bringing back this thread from the dead ^_^ but i've just completed it again. What an epic adventure.
I really want a prequel of Tales of Symphonia for the Wii.
It would be great if in the prequel the story was about the chosen before Collet. Would be cool if Yygdrasiville (sp) is a player in your group but then betrays everyone because of his own wishes. Krastos would be in it. Lloyd's dad and mum would be in it. The game should also tell us where the exphere's were first created. And about the elfs and half-elfs. Rain would be in it.
I just want another one, this game is soooooooooooooo GOOD. I'll play it again in the summer. ^_^

Im quite the opposite. When playing a game I like to get 100% on everything so with Tales I have to at least finish it 3 times but with it being an RPG it will be a while before I go through it again. Its like on Baten I refused to finish the game until I got all the cards...took me ages.

ToS is an exception coz i love it soooo much. Also because when you complete it, the next time you play it again you can start the game with the money, spells, skills etc... by spending your grade points from the previous game.
There are some RPG's that i only play once e.g. Most Final fantasy games, Fire Emblem games. And loads more but the list will drag on ^_^

Considering the amount of things you can do in the game, you can complete it many times over. I've done everything apart from the cursed book dungeon and get each characters affection up more than others each time. I've only done Sheena and Colette, this time I'm working on Raine.

Im yet to do a replay, but I think the incentive of having other areas of the quest to concentrate on and maybe do the whole thing in a more chilled out manner - I really played it non stop to get it finished, so to maybe enjoy it a bit more and have a nosey about the world and find the best weapons etc would be cool.
And to see a different ending, because the Lloyd and Collette one was a bit short.
On a side note: does anyone want to predict when this will die out as a thread? I see the Baten Kaitos ones dropping off somewhat, and I plan to ressurrect that in couple of weeks time when I get back to it, so keep an eye out for it making a reappearance!

Yes, much like the greatness of the game itself this thread will live forever.
You said you'd like to see a prequal of the story of "the choosen" before Colette and then mention, Kratos, Yagdrasill(sp?) etc, but those are two different stories. The whole Kratos and Yagdrasill and Mithos thing in the back story of ToS happened a few thousand years previous in fact there was no "choosen" at the time, that was something Yagdrasill made up after he went evil. Also Rain couldn't be in it either cuz she wouldn't have been born;) ... just had to make sure there was no confusion
I would love to see a prequal or direct sequal made (ie: a sequal featuring Lloyd and co in a new adventure no long after ToS), that would be like a dream come true.
I don't normally replay RPGs either, ToS and OOT (ok i know Zelda games are more Adventure/RPG's but i'm still counting it:p ) are the only ones i ever replayed and i've not just replayed them but have done so more than once, i've been through ToS 4 times and OOT 11 times:D

So if we want a sequel with all the same characters, just set in the future a bit, does that mean that youre itching for a more mature Tales with older badder characters that swear even more often than their kiddy cel shaded counter parts?
Replace the sword fighting with gunplay...?

But anyway back to Tales of Symphonia...although there are many Tales games i'd personally love a sequel as the characters are so likeable. I had a thought a while ago and I wonder if its possible for IN GAME graphics of a next gen Tales game to look like the FMV in ToS. It would be incredible.

I wouldn't want the sword play changed to gunplay coz it wouldn't suite it imo. The swearing wasn't a major part of the game but if they do make another Tales, they should keep the swearing how it was not too much.
I would like the grpahics to be like the pics above. Allthough the cell shaded graphics were ok.

I got back to it last week so I finished it at 42 hours or so on the first run (small game). good RPG but the argument was so cliché... I hoped Collete would just have a heart attack and die throughout the game, or stayed without voice forever for that matter.
This game could be even better, that's where I'm getting at, loved it anyway though...

have you beat the wind temple because there are 2 seens in luin with sheena one after the wind temp and one before head to asguard if you havent beeten the wind temp yet. also was the sceen in luin u saw recently of rain healing sheena and also have you gone to palmacosta yet because there is a way youcan do the wind and light temples before the water temple i did it in my new file now im a thunder temple and the reverse order of the seals was easy.
as far as i can remember i have done both seals...btw i beaten sheena just as i was about to come out of wind seal(watever its called)...i have only seen sheena in Luin: City of Hope once and that was near the fountain.
Also how do i get back to the palmacosta because i remember going on max's ship he no longer take me.

if you havent healed sheena in luin yet go to the fountain in luin (luin should be destroyed)

if this dosent help use game faqs and searh for tales of symphonia then go to faqs and guides.

If you're interested in the demo (lasts about 10mins or so), tell me and i'll post a link for everyone to download it (or PM me for my MSN).
Anyway, I think I'm gonna replay Tales lol.

Unlucky man, Its very rare that I play through an RPG twice ( FF7 AND 8 are the exceptions ) but I know how much you love this game so it shouldnt be a problem for you.
It's going to be the 3rd time finish this game  This time im going to try get all the characters to a high lvl, the highest i've had was lvl 72 before completing the game.
After this game i'll have 15 more games to re-comeplete :(

I still have Ocarina of Time 2D demo, it was lovely. I was sad that the site shut down, he made quite a few Zelda games and had Wind Waker and Majora's Mask projects going too.

Ok here's the link for the game AND for the instructions to install it, which are quite important!!!
Link for Game:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=97VFSJT8
Link for Instructions (VERY IMPORTANT)!!!:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AAX6NCKS
When you go on the link, you need to do the following!
1. Near the top right hand side, there is a box an beside it are 3 letters/numbers. You need to enter them into the box and then click the download button!
2. Now, in the same place as where the letters where, you will see a countdown. When this reaches 0, click it to download the file
Please make sure you download the second link because it explains the controls and how to install it, which takes a long time for me to repeat so read it!
Anyway replies would be good! :D
cheers

Hmmm, ok.
I'll put it on www.yousendit.com. should be better :D
If all else fails, add me onto your msn!!! AnilParmar2004@hotmail.com
EDIT: Ok I can't use Yousendit.com so it'll be better if you add me to your msn OR you could PM me your email adress and it'll be ALOT quicker that way.
Play that demo! I tested it and corrected some mistakes, it's still pretty awesome though! The best thing about it is that a lot of the character sprites are ff7 characters... you'll find Barret and Aeris in there!
