Kanye West has just released the video to his new single 'Stronger' off the new album Graduation. The song samples the Daft Punk song - Harder, better, faster, stronger. Daft Punk are in the video and make a cameo showing their creative support to Kanye, it was shot in Tokyo.

The song imo is a really good use of the sample and is catchy as fuck. I love the way the video buys into Daft Punks futuristic themes and the many references to Akira are classy.

Just wondering what the Daft Punk fans think about this track and the creativity of the video. Do you like the fact the musical genres have crossed over and what not? Everyone else give their opinions too on the clip and song, Im personally really excited by it:

Its not bad...just not great.

I quite like Kanye West but 'H,B,F,S,' is kinda dulled in this song.

As you can see Daft Punk are at their best when they are mixing their own stuff live...

"Harder, better, faster, stronger" sounds so much more powerful than it does in this version. Not a fan of Kanye West, but it's nice to see he recognizes good music (Daft Punk!).

Now I feel like listening to the Daft Punk album. =D

Ok, this probably won't make sense...Its a good Kanye West song, its not a good Daft Punk song...imo.

And the video is pretty cool.

er its ok i suppose =/ All kanye's beats come from samples and this isnt exactly he best. Daft punk live when they mix there own stuff as someone earlier said is awesome, saw them at global gathering last year, were great!

Your just ignorant to the genre.

And kanyes beats are much more versatile then samples Jimmy. He's Produced plenty more different sorta beats.

Trying to find a rap song without the words: 'ho', 'ride', 'momma', 'guns', 'nigga' and 'bling' is like trying to find a pop song without mentioning love.

That and the repeated beats do my head in.

Sorry, i just really don't understand the appeal.

I quite like the background remix, but his voice and the rap rhythm doesn't fit perfectly, it has some good parts. The same goes for the the clip, the cg parts are cool and so are the Akira references, but the rapper attitude kinda ruins it.

Comments like this prove my suggestion that your an ignorant idiot.

If you looked more deeply into the genre, you would see that it has much more depth then you would think. So much quality music.

Dont let the garbage hip hop you hear on the radios with the bollocks content you mentioned, corrupt your opinion of the genre as a whole. As you only end up looking silly

Jordan:

You basically catergorized a whole genre as something, despite having no real knowledge on that genre.

When doing such a thing, to real fans of hip hop you are asking to get fuckin flamed tbh.

I could quite easily sit here and catergorize the genre of rock music, based on the bullshit that is played on the radio. But im smarter then that and realise that if you look past the current bullshit mainstream state, their is moutains of quality music.

You sould use the same attitude.

And Takeo you are on my nuts so badly its ridiculous. Fact is, I spoke the sense here. Catergorizing something you have no real knowledge on, is a stupid ass thing to do. Im not saying people have to worship hip hop music, I dont myself. But it would help if they didnt stereotype it so badly. It is Like me saying France is full of people who smell of onions and live in the eiffel tour, same ignorant attitude just used towards a music genre.

Alright Takeo, lets not make this personal.
For the record, i've heard a 'reasonable' amount of rap music. It did nothing for me.

Look, we all have strong opinions, but lets keep this civil or i'll go bad-ass-min, which is something i'd rather not do.

Somebody with down syndrome could work out he has no real knowledge of the genre. He used the most blatant stereotype around and catergorized the overall content of the genre, as the perception modern mainstream hip hop has amongst opposers e.g. about bitches, hoes and niggaz.

Anybody with an extensive knowledge of the genre, would of known not to have said such bollocks as they would of known there is more to Hip Hop then that.

God, open your eyes.

Hmmm, I feel a bit wrong for this, but I'm a bit with the Hobbz on this one. You can't just pass of an entire genre based upon stuff like Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, who granted do pretty much bang on about ho's, pimps and rides. However there is a hell of a lot below the surface if you look for it. True it isn't to everyones taste though, mainly because a lot of the focus is on the lyrical content and rhythm of the vocals rather than musical versatility, although some slick beats always do help.

Anyway on topic, it's an alright track, but I can't help but feel that Kanye has perhaps been a bit lazy on the production and not really given it his all. Just feel something is missing. Still not bad, just not one of his best.

hobbzinio
27-06-2007, 11:49 PM
Finally, somebody with some sense.

There is so much more to the genre, then the bullshit you hear on the radio and see on your tv set's from the likes of Mr. 50 cent.

Thats why such ignorant comments from Jordan, piss me off so much.

Thats all really.

That is still a VERY mainstream based taste though man, making your liking of the genre a bit restricted. Even so, soon I am going to make a thread - giving you lot some more knowledge on the origins of hip hop, its musical roots + where to find the classy stuff and hopefully getting alot of you out of the "its all crap" box.

When I make the thread, is another story. Im in the "lazy" box

Paris Hilton is garbage in everything she does, bar sucking dick and it doesnt even look like she is that good at doing that.

Kanye West is a brilliant soulful producer across many genres, 1 of the only commercial rap artists still making good commercial hip hop and has a refreshing personality.

I take it you dont go clubbin much? Cos when this track plays it is magic. The fact Daft Punk found the sample in good taste says it all.

Please stop throwing insults around at people you don't know.
What I was trying to point out is that you jump down people's throats for saying something you like is rubbish, claiming that no one should think it is rubbish if they knew more about it, not just the popular media-skewed version. Then you say something else is absolute rubbish, based on what you've seen oh it via the media-skewed version. Do you see the hypocracy? Oh you were being serious, ROFL!!! I thought you were havin a laugh with me, wow. I am one of the least hypocritical people here you will find when it comes to staying true to what I believe.

I dont see how somebody comparing Paris Hilton to Kanye West -

A. Makes Sense
or
B. Is relevant

Then you compare ignorance to a culture and music genre to being ignorant to an "IT' girl, I mean come on you are clutching to straws.

Please explain to me how Paris Hilton is talented? I've analyzed the girl in every single way and come to the same conclusion, she is a digusting human being. Saying rap is all about hoes and guns is not somebody who has properly anaylazed anything.

A genre and culture has a bit more depth to it then Paris Hilton.

mariosmentor
08-08-2007, 09:34 PM
I wasn't talking about a culture, I was talking about Kayne West. I don't like him and I don't like Paris Hilton, but you're insulting of Paris Hilton is not unlike peoples comments on Kayne West.

So basically if something you like is deemed 'trash' by others then it is unacceptable but something you think is trash is accurate. You don't see a contradiction in there?

hobbzinio
08-08-2007, 09:45 PM
NO people can have their opinions on Kanye or Hip hop, but the minute somebody says -

"Rap is just hoes and guns" and it becomes obvious they have not heard anything decent from the genre or know nothing of its origin it is stupidly ignorant. Like me saying Rock Music is all about love songs after hearing a Blink 182 track. Its catergorizing an entire genre, based on a small soundbite you have digested.

Paris Hilton is somebody who I do not rate in any way. Ive seen her acting (House of Wax) she sucked, I've heard her songs (terrible), I've seen her publicity stunts (Poor) and I have seen her sex tapes (she sucked - literally and metaphorically). I dont rate her in any way or form. Where is the ignorance?

How this thread got to comparing Paris Hilton to Hip Hop music I will never know lol
