Personally I still think Federer is going to win again.
The first match kicks off at 1300 today and is on the BBC and its various interactive channels as I'm sure everyone knows.
The opening match on Centre Court is Roger Federer (Swi) (1) v Teimuraz Gabashvili (Rus). I know who my bets are on.

Fedededededererer will probably still win it, though. :p

he is shit. henman is the biggest failure ever. at least murray (the complete prick he is) has real potential. Natural ability that henman has never had.
There are many good players who have never won a grand slam. Saying that Henman has never had any natural ability is a complete joke, he was 4th (5th?) in for fuck's sake. It's just because of stupid people that think that because he's British he has to win wimbledon or else he's a complete failure. Stop giving him stick, he's the best we've fucking got (this year anyway, next year you can all moan about Murray).
mike-zim
26-06-2007, 03:38 PM
He worked hard to get there. he is not built to play the modern game of tennis. For him to get that highly ranked is testiment to how hard he worked. Fact is he is not as NATURALLY tallented as half the people entered for wimbledon. He is a complete failure. What has he won? Yes he is the best we've got doesn't mean i have to put kid gloves on. i am just facing facts.
Murray i absolutely hate but he is better than henman NATURALLY. If he doesn't win a major competition by the time he gets to henmans point in his carreer then i will be calling him a failure too.
That makes no sense. If Henman wasn't talented enough to win wimbledon, why is he a failure for not winning? He's worked hard, like you said, and has probably been successful enough do to himself justice (won 11 singles titles I believe, none of them grand slams). Although you're definition of failure seems to be not winning a grand slam, in which case a very large majority of tennis players are failures.
mike-zim
26-06-2007, 03:59 PM
Yes but how many of them have the resources that henman has? Henman has had the best the brittish can offer in terms of support and training. some of those other failures would have won at least 1 major tournament with that sort of backing.

Daniela is still my favourite though. I'm furious at the way she was cheated out of it by Serena yesterday

Just watched the Connors/McEnroe final because it's raining. It's nice to see some classic players playing.
I've always wondered... What does the "R" stand for, "rain" or "replay"?
Stefkov

The big R is for Replay. They have it there when it's not raining.
Agh, not been watching this. I heard Roddick set a new serve speed record. Can't remember what it was though.
The Henin v Williams match is gooood :yay:

Henin v Bartoli
Ivanovic v Venus
Not sure I care who wins the womens outta them four. Bartoli has to be the least likely to win it over all, but she's done fantastic to make it to the last four so anythings possible as long as she doesnt choke up against Henin. Speaking of Justine, it would be ironic if she didnt win it this year again seeing as its the the only Slam she's yet to get lol. Ivanovic I would like to see winning it purely because of her history and how well she did at the French a few weeks ago only to bottle it in the final... and Venus, well whats left to be said about her and Serena like. Fantastic players and she would fully deserve to win another Wimbledon title.
The mens side is much more interesting. I want Federer to win and continue his dominance obviously, and I want that scum Nadal to just lose asap but apart from them two its interesting to see how everything else falls into place. I would have loved another Federer v Roddick final, so lets hope that prospective semi doesnt disappoint! :hehe:

Henin FTW!!
She's an awesome players and Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam event she hasn't won, she deserves to win all four of them!
Shame Hewitt's gone out, Nadal FTW now!
Federer is just SOOOO boring! Try showing abit of charisma/personality!

You can't really say "Nadal FTW" then say Federer is boring. Nadal is all power and stamina. Federer is an excellent player to watch because he's so good. He can do absolutely everything, he makes wonderful shots that don't seem possible.

Justine Henin is a babe.
As John McEnroe might say... you cannot be serious?! Not only is she ugly, but she is French (it is a well known fact that Belgium is in France).

Turn on BBC2 now and watch the McEnroe - Borg final. There's just been an incredible tie-break. Borg had 7 Championship points, in the end McEnroe won it 18-16. Just about to go onto the 5th set now.
Edit - They didn't show the 5th set, just the match point.

They just showed that tie break cos its so epic and so well remembered!
Whats the matter with how Federer behaves on court? Just because he doesnt loose the plot all the time and flaunt his freakily large bicep like Nadal, doesnt mean he's boring. It cannot be denied that because of his style of playing (finesse AND power) that he's not one of the most exciting to watch. And a major plus point is that he doesnt scream and yell like Nadal does.
Have a look at past dominating forces at Wimbledon like Borg and Sampras, they both held themselves together incredibly well, won a host of titles, and are lovingly remembered for it all! :heh:

I also found Sampras extremely boring!
I prefer to see the player show there emotions out there and have a personality!
and that's why I prefer to watch the likes of Hewitt, Agassi and McEnroe, so much more!
Its all a matter of opinion because I don't find Nadal great to watch. My favourite players to watch are Federer, Baghdatis and Djokovic. I find it astounding how Federer makes everything look so easy.

Can't believe I saw Federer against Gasquet in the semis. I thought Roddick won, but he did start to go downhill when I stopped watching.
Federer is such a good player, some of the shots he pulled off.
Nadal won quite luckily I think. Losing the first set then winning the second because of the other players injury.
Nadal and Federer in the final, who'd thunk it.

Kinda funny, the mens final is 1vs2, while the womens is 18vs23.
Damn I wanted Bartoli to win.

Same...She rocked. TBH its a bit unfair because Williams is basically a man.

I can't stand Bartoli's serve. Thankfully I won't have the displeasure of watching her again until Wimbledon next year. I'm really glad Venus won it.
Murray/Jankovic tomorrow in the mixed doubles final will be great, I'm looking forward to that more than the Federer - Nadal match.

Amazing final. Some of the best tennis I think I've ever seen.
In the fourth set, I thought Nadal was well in with a chance to win the match. But, Federerererer came back strong in the final set, and he took his chances and claimed it.
Nadal was so close, though. Next year I think he'll finally topple Federer at Wimbledon.

Thinking about that match, it's hard to figure out just what weaknesses Federer and Nadal have. My answer: very little.
Plus Nadal had an injury in the fourth, so who knows what could have happened had he been at his best.
That injury was obviously faked to get Federer out of his game, Nadal did it all the time by calling the Hawkeye and stalling in between points. Federer is weaker when he's lost his game pace.
What a legendary match though...

Murray and Jankovic have done it!!!
(Expect photos in The Sun tomorrow.)
Very good Wimbledon this year, I always feel like there's something missing in the week following Wimbledon. :(
Highlights for me have to be the mixed doubles, the womens finals, S. Williams screams of agony were something, and Federer getting 5 straight Wimbledon wins was cool, although i thought the match was a bit too formulaic.

The womens final was better than I was expecting, good that Bartoli managed to put up a fight. Womens games always seem so one sided to me, even if the match does go to three sets.
That Jamie Murray didnt seem like to bad a doubles player, its still a shocking suprise that he got so far and actually won the mixed. His lust for Jankovic carried him through.
Aaand the main event: the gents final... not a great match in all honesty. Federer just seems to crack when he plays Nadal, its unbelievable. Federer cleary has the game to obliterate Nadal (on every surface!) but just cos Nadal has such a win loss ratio against him on clay, he just seems to have a big mental block when it comes to Nadal. On grass expecially, it shoulda been 6-0 6-0 6-0 but Federer just reverts to being the underdog and lets Nadal control the matches they play. He should take charge and play his game instead of Nadals.
Anyway, there was tons of pressure on Federer I suppose. Not only to actually beat Nadal but to equal Bjorns five Wimbledons in a row etc. I'm sure glad he did it!
I wonder if Jankovic took Jamie's virginity last night.
