Has anybody been watching this on BBC1?

I left the tv on after Doctor Who, and have been watching this, and I've found it to be pretty damn awesome! You've gotta love James Nesbitt. :D

Anyone actually read the book?

Yes. It's a good read, sort of hard to get into because there really isn't much action. It ends quite well though, the last two chapters being two accounts explaining all the mysterious happenings in the story. It's not a horror book like a lot of people think it is, it's a mystery (the name is The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll & My Hyde).

From what I've seen, it's nothing like the novel, but most stuff that uses the names Jekyll & Hyde are nothing like it as well.

I've been meaning to read the book, but have not gotten round to it.

I missed the first one, having set up the VCR to record it, but something seems to have buggered up, resulting in non recordage. I've been "out" tonight so have had Mummy record the second. We'll see how this goes.

The unforunate downside to the story is that everyone already knows that Jekyll is Hyde before they read it...so it kinda ruins the mystery. Great read though. I can't imagine how they'd do some of the scenes with Hyde, they were really quite brutal.

I think this is only "inspired" by the book, and it's set in the present day I believe, so the only similarity is the whole Jekyll/Hyde split personality thing.

Spoiler tags work like this:

I caught it from the bit where he was in the lion's den when I came home from work, looked a bit pants at first, but then it grew on me and now I want to see the next one to find out what's going on and who that mysterious woman was!

It's apparently Jekylls mummy, who you know has the power as well.

I think that's why she danced around the issue of his dad, saying the Hyde side killed him in a sense, as if she did.

im gonna assume people have watched the second one, first off you can clearly see its not split personality disorder etc, and the speeches made in the episodes about control are brilliant (when they were in the lion den and the man starts trying to control him). That woman...she said hyde had no children and thus its a tad impossible that hyde exists today. However, recapping to the first jekyll and hyde movie (based on the book i believe), hyde raped a woman and did it with a number of prostitutes so its possible that a child did exist, i can't wait for this been looking forward to it all week!

I didn't think this one was as good as the others. I can't remember the exact bits in question, but they were drawn out and I found myself checking my watch on a few occasions.

Fierce_LiNk
30-06-2007, 09:51 PM
I think some elements of it were much better than last week's. I think the conflict between "Jekyll" and "Hyde" was much stronger this week, and it just seemed more compulsive to watch. I kinda enjoyed the flashback sequences as well to see who he had killed. :)

So glad they killed the annoying american.
Don't know what he was doing in the show anyway, a brit could have done the job just as well. Maybe he was there just for someone to hate, because everyone hates americans, right? Or maybe he was put in to help sell the show to the american networks, sounds like the kind of thing the BBC would do.

You make it sound as if the pain is over. We've still got Wimbledon shitting on the BBC for another week.

They take my money and give me very little back in return.
Paying the licence fee just to watch a couple of shows is a right rip off.
I pay less for my cable TV package than I do the licence fee.

I don't like it either, but they wouldn't have it on if they wasn't the audience for it would they?

I hate cliffhangers!

That was an awesome/chilling episode.

This episode was good, an obvious lack of the "next week" shizzle because of the ending.

Although I did feel that it was dragged out too long, they could've moved the storyline on a bit quicker.

There's a dead body of someone, despite what the readings said.

Also, was that woman with the gingery Thatcher-esque hair his "mother"?

DomJcg

yes, she appeared in the second episode proclaiming she was his biological son (i think...)

Its the last one :weep:

This series has been awesome. Good acting, great story and the violence is a big plus for a BBC show. I mean violence we can see, rather than the sort in doctor who.

Surprised it's that short,it really has been a good series though.I agree with all your points, the violence has been good, the acting fantastic and the story just really sucked me in.I thought there would of been a few more episodes.

Damn it looks so good though.Heres hoping to a good finalle.

Yup, the last one, there's only 5.

I really hope the BBC makes more programmes like this. I've been getting bored with doctor who, it seems to be the only thing BBC rely on. This series has shown they can actually make good programmes other than dw.

And I hated james nesbit as an actor before this, but he's completely changed my mind now.

Fierce_LiNk

I've not watched as much of it as I should have, but it really has been an excellent series. Pretty damn dark, as well. Like Haggis said, big plus for the BBC.

And James Nesbit is a fine actor. He can do quite a range of roles, so I'm looking forwarding to seeing what he can do next.

rokhed00
29-07-2007, 01:00 PM
What a disappointment that was.
They just deviated from the source material far too much, I could see the cracks last week when they disposed of the potion and made Hyde triggered by love, but it all really fell apart with the finale. Hyde is love, what a load of bollocks, and I just hope the bit with his mother at the end doesn't mean there'll be another series.

ShadowV7
29-07-2007, 01:02 PM

They weren't even gasping for air when they came out.

The finale was a bit bad though, pretty anti-climatic I was hoping for something much better. Then Hyde, who was cool and evil was because of all this love stuff.

Meh.

There were some good moments, but ultimately the crappy 'twist' ruined things.
