Translation:
"2005 has not been a bad year for Sony Computer Entertainment: because today the PSP console number 10 000 000 was shipped from the (dont know how that word is written in English)*the plase they make them* (:P), and that in just ten months!"
So, are sales going THAT good, i mean, the DS has sold more consoles eh?

i hate it when they do that, they could have shipped 10,000,000 and only sold 1 for all we know, but it is a good way to make it look like you've sold shit loads when you haven't!

These 'shipped' figures are common, Nintendo is guilty of using them too. The rest of that article goes on to describe the PSP's software attach rate which is pretty pathetic.

Its not just sony, everyone does, quote how mcuh of something has been shipped.
Shipped, definitely shipped. Sony's only sold about 1.3 million PSPs in Japan.
Na, its definitly shipped. I recieve press releases from Sony and here is an extract that proves that it is not the number sold:
Since its European launch on 1st September 2005, PSP has become a hugely successful cultural phenomenon, selling over a million units throughout the PAL territories in just under a month.
EDIT
In fact here is the full press release of the number shipped. Seriously, all those sites who have said that its the number that has been sold should be put to shame as they can't even read properly :p :geek:

Tokyo, October 21, 2005 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that the cumulative production shipment of its PlayStation®Portable (PSP®) handheld entertainment player had reached 10 million units worldwide, as of October 21st, 2005. Shipment of 10 million units within 10 months since launch is the fastest penetration speed in the PlayStation® platforms introduced in the past. Along with the exciting and extensive lineup of software titles for the year-end/New Years peak selling season, shipment of PSP is steadily growing in Japan, North America and Europe.
Since its launch in Japan in December 2004, North America in March 2005, Southeast Asia in May 2005, and in Europe in September, 2005, PSP has steadily been establishing its place as a new handheld entertainment platform around the world. With its overwhelming presence and impact, unparalleled in handheld systems, PSP has been gaining huge support from a broad range of consumers.
On the software side, PSP®Game software shipment has reached 19.6 million units and 183 titles have become available worldwide as of September, 2005. Market for the UMD®Video software titles have been expanding and cumulative production shipment has exceeded over 15 million units as of September 2005. More new and attractive titles are expected to be released from content developers and publishers for the holiday season.
SCEI aims to expand the world of entertainment with game, music and movies in the mobile entertainment arena by offering new accessories and the continuous system software upgrades for the additional features on PSP. With PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation®Portable, SCEI will create and develop a new world of computer entertainment through the fusion of game, music, movies, and broadcasting.

Well duh, PSP was always going to trash DS in Europe. We're the worst of the three continents. I mean, when 80 % of all game sales in a country like Norway are PS2 games, and almost no stores are selling DS games, where is that fight headed?

Those puppies will soon be slaughtered by the trojan horse that is GTA. ;)
Yes, every one seems to think that. I used to, until I noticed a major slip-up by sony in europe. MORE PSP UNITS WILL BE SHIPPED IN A FEW MONTHS. Now, that came from alot of gaming websites and actual street stores. If this is true, GTA will only sell less than the amount already sold in europe. Since none are coming in until most probably december for xmas hype, so GTA could of sold more, but restricted because its not like its gonna sell alot until more PSP units come instock, so i predict the slaughter will be in december.
But, by december, the hype of Mario kart and Nintendogs both for DS for xmas lists may blow it over.
So every body keep guessing, nothing is certain.
Back on topic, some one already has stated nintendo have done this before. But im a bit suprised sony arent actualy showing sales figures themselves.

Today Sony revealed shipment numbers for the PSP and they make for impressive reading. As of 21 October, Sony has shipped 10 million PSPs to stores across the world, which the company reckons gives the PSP the "fastest penetration" of any PlayStation platform to date.
The breakdown of the shipments is worth a look. It's no surprise that North America, which has long since become the biggest videogame market, leads with shipments of around 4.5 million. Japan is some way behind with around 3 million and it's followed, surprisingly closely, by Europe. Despite the PSP only having been on sale here for seven weeks, shipments to the continent stand at more than 2.5 million.
Impressive numbers, yes, but there's more to them than is immediately apparent.
The most obvious is, of course, that these are merely shipments numbers. Usually they're at least indicative of the sales of hardware, but it seems that in this case Sony is fibbing a bit.
When Sony announced the Giga Pack in Europe this week, it included an admission of actual sales figures, reporting that there were just over a million units sold in the region. In North America, the shipment numbers dwarf actual sales too.
In a recent interview, Kaz Hirai, Sony's North American PlayStation boss, said only around 2.3 million PSPs had been sold since the handheld debuted there in early March. "We're going to try to double the installed base between now and the end of the year," Hirai said. Sony is obviously prepping for what it hopes will be a phenomenal holiday season for the PSP.
So the shipments point to a stockpiling of PSPs for what will hopefully be a busy few months for Sony.
