I hope its more like the original Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast! I owned at that. (Not that I didn't at the second) I think the controls were tighter.

Lol, damn, some intense Soul Calibur vs Tekken stuff here (even if it is multiple people on 1 ;)).
Anyway, man, this is one of my most anticipated games this gen (as far as I know) period. Even though the teaser did nothing but let us know the climax could be reached (although I hope the series continues), watching it was still 100% joy. But hey, I need help here, this game for me is the difinitive system seller, having played the first one (Soul Blade), I've owned and loved all the ones since dearly (my favourite fighting series). But, current generation home consoles, all I own is a Wii at the mo, which console do you guys reckon I should buy to play this on?

I'd say they're both as good as each other, each has it's own merits... I really couldn't choose between them.

If I had to choose I'd probably go with Tekken though, as I'm too good for my friends on Soul Calibur, whereas on Tekken they put up a little bit of a fight.

I'd probably say SC is a little faster, but they're both very well balanced fighters!

See, I find Tekken akin to playing with mittens on, while horribly drunk. Everything moves so slowly and stiff, and it's basically a 2d fighter, only shinier.

SCII on the other hand is like playing liquid silk. Everything is so fast and natural it plays amazingly. True, it has a certain degree of constraints, but like all the best games, it's the rules that provide the pressure to create great gameplay. Ikaruga is a good example...

They're both 2 of the best fighters ever made, I just prefer Tekken, probably because I've spent inhuman hours mastering that game and know it inside out.

Ikaruga is...well, it's the most fun you can have without being forced to cuddle afterwards...

Well look bard i see your logic but honestly maybe tekken got faster but dear god Tekken 2 and 3 were the slowest fighting games plus the graphics were quite bad.I'm not the biggest fan of soul caibur or tekken but

Soul blade owned tekken 2 and 3:)

Hahah Tekken, me and my friend used to play that all the time. I was too lazy to learn the combos, so I backflip spammed with Law while he was doing all of Kings complicated combos. But I still won more often that not :p

King is ridiculously hard to use properly, but half of his grab combos take off more than half your life. The flipside is that he's really, really slow. Same with Marduk

Ugh. WTF devs, learn to use HDR. That looks ridiculous. And Ivy's tits are too big, she doesn't look hot that way :/
I hate this stupid HDR usage, they just bloom everything to hell and it's suddenly an awesome looking game. The models seem good, so do the textures, but since they don't want to make realistic skin and don't want them to look like dolls, they just add HDR+1000 and everyone thinks it looks great.

The graphics look nice but IMO they've gone a bit ott with Ivy XD

That Maxi user is absoloute class, the way he ustilises Soul charges for gaurd breakers and with his movements... amazing. Bard, I don't think you too far away with your comments on that user. I was quite impressed with the Nightmare user to actually, they were clever despite Nightmares sluggish movements.
Man, Ivy needs to be the way she in Soul Calibur 2 in this, not three. Getting her sword in the whip state was better, amongst other things.
But Xianghua is the one (for me), I'd love to play anyone using her. Man this game is my system seller, question is, which one. I know most people here are 360 users, so probably getting for the 360, but the PS3 D-Pad is better... I'll just weigh it up closer to release date.

After watching that I think I gotta go back to play this game just so I can learn how to use those Soul Charges. I use Link and I kick ass but I have never used a Soul Charge. I would be unstoppable if I knew how to use them. :woops: : peace:

As for controllers, I use an arcade stick anyway, I hate using ordinary controllers for fighters, get thumb blisters trying to pull off the moves.

When I use the PS2 D-pad I put alittle oil on the pad, and wrap my shirt around my thumb... but thats when things get intence.

Cervantes was almost unbeatable in soul blade. I could use him in SC2 because he mainly had the same combos like Y,Y Down A or whatever the buttons were. But he was far slower so I'm not really surpirsed talim would be great against him. I dislike raphael users to be honest. Everyone i have played uses THAT combo which really isn't a combo. Y Y Y Y etc.

My favs are Necrid,Kilik, Seung mina(more or less same moves as kilik) and Ivy(good once moves are learnt)

I was always a Nightmare or Maxi player. Nightware was the best for matches against AI, just for brute strength. Maxi was more slippery, so I used him in multiplayer.

Ha right here buddy. Although I barley use 'that' combo. Using it locks you into one dimension, so being circled screws you over. I just dodge with Rapheal until the opponent gets frustrated. Then its a cake walk.

Before I watched the trailer just now I had never heard the English voice overs...they are truly awful.

One huge problem is the lip syncing is for the Japanese so its all wrong and it looks crap!

Might be technichally great, but I still can't get over the exageration of bloom/HDR. Just tone it down a little, it'll look much better!
Also, they're taking the DoA route with girls I see...

My flatmate has a PS3, I havent bought any games for it (non take my fancy-but I havent really looked that hard) but Ill get this, I love soul calibur 2 on the gamecube and I hope this can better that.

on the soul calibur games

I have soul calibur for the dreamcast and do like it but find it a bit 'basic' and 'chunky' game play wise compared to SC2 on the cube which plays like a dream, I also have soul calibur 3 for PS2 and ive found that one to be lacking im not totally sure why, I guess it just feels less fluid gameplay wise and less balanced.

Graphics wise in SC3 they scaled down the polygons on the characters to (I beleve) have better looking fighting environments but this has not really worked in (IMO) a lot of the back stages have too much going on in them or feel to contrived and in a game like soul calibur your going to be looking more at charaters more than anything else (though maybe thats why the bigger boobies in SC4, lol).

Im no 'expert' at fighting games, but feel like I played enough calibur for decent opinion on it ;) .

Oh and asteroths back so sweeeeet!!!

It's looking better, they toned down HDR a little, that's the way to go. They could still put it down a couple of notches. The models are fucking great. And I love boobs as much as the next guy, but this is just ridiculous.

Oh for gods sake you cant play both characters in any port of the game, I love Star Wars and Soul Calibur and was very pleased when I 1st heard this news (hense my very enthusiastic post before ;) ) but not to have both characters playable in both ports is a very dumb move on Namcos part (its not like this will help shift more units). Still at least as Ill be getting this for PS3 (my flatmate got one) ill be alble to play Vader I think he'll be more playable that Yoda (he's such a wee thing, lol) however if he plays like Yoda fighting Count Douku in attack of the clones I could be wrong.

I can't freaking believe you've never played as link in SC2 :o...You should get that first, since this games seems to be akin to them. If you love Zelda (which you do ^^) you will love the selection of swords that come from the Zelda universe Biggoron's sword etc.

When I first saw the trailer, I just thought both characters would be available in both versions. It's a bit...shitty that one version only gets Vader, and the other gets Yoda. With Link, it was different, as he was an exclusive Nintendo character. Kinda like HeiHachi(sp?) from Tekken on the PS2.

Maybe it's to put more pressure on people to get the PS3 version? Yoda is cool, but this is Darth Fucking Vader.

Soul Calibur is about speed and reactions, both of which Yoda is better at. However Darth Maul wins hands down. I will buy whichever version Darth Maul is in.

The characters were awfully unbalanced and it was a challenge not win with a ring-out. Also the enemy AI was incredibly crap, most noticeable on the last boss who regularly did the same move three or four times in a row.

Soul Calibur 1 was the best in the series. Thats not even debatable.

I would be approximately 100% more interested in this game if it wasn't giving Team Ninja a run for its money in the 'ridiculous fetishistic breast size' stakes. It has genuinely put me off the game, and I know I'm not the only one.

Still, I like Kilik's new design.

I agree. If it wasn't one of my favourite multiplayer games of all time, I'd be avoiding it on bullshit stakes. As it is, I'm just gonna have to embarrass myself at the shop (it's clearly gonna have some form of ridiculous tits on the cover) and hope the quality is still there.

I thought that strategic adventure mode was a nice touch, I mean you didn't have to do it anyway, similar to the SSE in Brawl.

QFT though I guess some of the adverts and marketing kind of contradicted the games themselves but even so, Tomb Raider Anniversary by todays standards is still an enjoyable game for what it is, I must admit I enjoyed Uncharted more though but TRA more than makes up for it in it's length, must go back and complete that before the next one comes out... :blank:

As we previously announced, the big news out of yesterday's Namco Bandai Editor's Day was the announcement of a street date for Soul Calibur IV: July 29, 2008. Also announced was a special Collector's Edition will be made available on the same date for both the 360 and PS3 versions. The Collector's Edition will come in a tin box and includes an art book, a t-shirt, a poster and exclusive access to downloadable content only available in this special edition. Announced at the same time was the news that the Original Soul Calibur will be making it's way to XBLA.

Anyways looks awesome but shame i need a new console for this. That anime character looks like she is from a totally different universe, just like vader and yoda really. Isn't it a little bit sad that Namco have to resort to stuff like this to sell copies? Still will be getting it though.

In a way, yes i agree that Namco have resorted to plugging their games with characters that don't suit the genre. But they do make great games and SCIV i believe will be a good game, of which i shall be aquiring on release.
