Yorkshire/West Riding Accent. Help!!

Hello!

I was wondering if any of you could point me in the direction of a recording of a Yorkeshire accent :D

I'm doing a play over the summer and although my character doesn't speak with one, the rest of the cast does and they all have varying ideas of how one sounds, all with no success at all really!! Some sound like their regular selves, others like a cross between an Englishman, a German and an African :heh:

It's specifically a West Riding accent, and I really haven't a clue how to do it. I was hoping some of you on here are from West Yorkeshire or near it and could show me a Youtube link or a recording somewhere of people speaking in such an accent!

I thought Corrie was Manchester though? Is that in Yorkshire?

I think the problem is no-one quite knows exactly what a Yorkeshire accent is.

yorkshire and manchester accents ARE different, should imagine most people could tell the difference.

I suppose it depends on what sort of a Yorkshire accent you are looking for.
If you are looking for broad Yorkshire search or watch anything that has words Yorkshire mining town involved.

Kes is a damn good example of that accent.
In all honesty Yorkshire accents can differ quite a bit.
On a different note my g/f is from Leeds and I dunno how she ended up with her accent cos it sounds so fackin sathern.

gotta agree, the yorkshire accent varies alot, southern yorks tends to be the strongest. im guess the play will avoid yorkshire words like 'ta'. Instead of saying 'to the' say 't'he' like...'i'm off t'he pub'.

If you want I could record me and my mates. I have a south yorkshire accent (mixed with notts and derbys) but it would give you an idea on how some things are pronounced like t' (to the) etc.

i'm in west yorkshire but dont think i have a strong accent.
