I was just wondering how many people are at an important stage in their education and should really be concentrating on their studies and probably spending less time on the net or gaming and more time *shivers* doing coursework. Im in yr 11 by the way and am doing shit at school and I blame it solely on Nintendo.*just jokin I blame it on my shit teachers :D *

Don't worry too much, when you're older you can put down what you like as GCSE, A-Level results on C.Vs and no one ever checks up on them.

In Scotland we only get to do 8 GCSE's, althgouh I think it's split up different than you guys. I'm in year 10 equivilant I think, well the year that will be doing GCSE's is 2007. I'll do less gaming/interneting when my Physics and History tests are coming up...

I'm in Year 11, Mochs in January and Exams in May. Can't wait :indeed:
I try to get a good balance in life, theres no point saying "Oh I have to revise all the time as I have GCSE's soon and will have to give up Internet, social life, sport, fitness, walking and gaming etc. or a while" because if I did that its likely I would get bored and maybe down, which would probably make me do even worse in my exams. Its better to revise, but without overdoing it, just spacing out, keeping life going cool and to just think positive. I've been like that this year and have been doing quite well so far.

It's all about balance I tell ya!

I'm in year 11, and currently have 3 GCSEs. Drama (A, 2 marks off an A*), Expressive Arts (B, which I did in year 9) and Statistics (D, my coursework let me down apparently). Now I'm doing AS Drama and GCSE Maths. Plus all those other GCSEs.

If your good at it - do it. Its a great A Level to have. We just weren't taught the advanced maths in year 11, so we all failed it. With some good teaching at college - you'll hopefully do well.

I've got a degree and therefore win, and in case anyone attempts to equal my degree, it has been endowed with First Class honours. And I'll have an even better thing soon ... hopefully. Everyone I went to school with is working now though and earns more money than me. (I earn nothing.)

Hmmm, wouldn't worry too much about GCSE's, not many employers do. Can't even remember what I got. A-Levels went alright though, C in English Lit, C in History and B in Geology, but I think I could have done better if I'd worked a bit harder and spent less time playing with monkeys in balls.

Wow, this has just turned into a complete show off thread.

And Mr Odwin, I also earn jack.

My brother got a 1-1 in some Maths degree at Edinburgh.

Alot of people say the GCSE's aren't important, but when your the age to do them there's nothing else that's more important really, so you might aswell try as hard as you can. I#m pretty sure I'll get a 1 (equivalent A I guess, we can't get any special marks, like A*) in everything apart from History and German, which I'll have to try really hard in.

11.5 GCSE's (7A*, 3A, 2B) 3 proper Alevels (maths, physics, further maths) Chemistry and computing AS (all at A) general studies (B grrr), and 1 years worth of a physics degree (oxford). GCSE's are quite important, Uni's use them with you predicted grades. more important that doing duke of edingborough or something on you personal statement.

EDIT: corrected spelling of oxford :heh:

I have 11 GCSE's. (2 A*s 2 A s 4 B s 2 C's and 1 F)

The F was for French, inwhich I never turned up for the Paper Two, because it was a waste of time.

For me they where fairly important because they got me my Apprenticeship - and considering there where a couple of hundred applicants and only two got picked isnt too bad. What I can't understand was at the leadup interviews out of the tens of people I spoke to, only one or two had similar results to me, all the other guys had flipping 10 A*'s. The only thing that I can really think did it for me was the Personal Statement...well no, I'm just clutching at straws. I'm baffled to this day.

Remember fellow homies that will be looking to start college next September, work on your Personal Statement. :hmm:

Lucky you JonSt, none of the class was given the chance to do 9, even though one of the people in out class is a prodigy who won the Scottish writing compo a few years ago and knows the capital of every country in the world.

Oh well...

Good luck with that english exam. ;)

I prefer mechanics rather than statistics, and even though Physics was one of the subjects I failed at AS, learning mechanics in Physics lessons helped me out a lot when doing it in Maths.

we didn't get a choice, but we do physics anyways, and i'm gonna take that aswell, as it might help with programming a game engine, which is basically something i've always wanted to do.

@offerman, did you have interviews? When i went for interviews at my uni everyone had better grades than me, 12-13 A*'s etc 6 or 7A's at A level, insane grades that they obviously threw away their social life to get or are complete genius's. And not many of them got in. If you had an interview, especially for an apprentiship, thier looking for someone whos not only clever but also someone who can work well as a team and get along with people.

GCSE's are important, and so are A levels, but once you get over certain grades then a few extra A*s dont really matter. The only ones that count are the ones that will be used in you job. Even if you see people with good exam results, having a good interview is just as important.

And well done for the french grade, its the most useless subject they forced me to do, and i couldnt drop it. At least you could take a dictionary into the exams so i copied all the example sentances it gave.
