Much Improved and a worthy upgrade..

Just did a quick test with You Tube.....Video fired up first time and smoothly, also the zoom feature seems a lot better for full screen videos. Im happy with it for that alone. It does seem to be a faster and better interface as well.

Quality...

Much better than the trial version, though could have been better, e.g. tabs. I prefer the old way of scrolling, too.

The menu in the bottom is certainly a nice addition. You don't have to go all the way back to the startup screen to enter e new address. The search function (Google or Yahoo) is also pretty convenient.

The overall usability seems to have improved, but with tabs "Wii browsing" would have really been a viable alternative.

ahh finally found it.. you have to go into the trial-version "download" again and there is an option called.. UPDATE.. (just for the people who are hung over or/ and stupid like me).. well haven't had that much time to fiddle with it yet..

I much prefer the old way of scrolling, but I'm sure I'll grow round like it like the trial version. Weird thing is, yesterday I talked about this for the first time in a month!

I'm using it now. This is awesome in so many ways! No typing lag, nice channel intro, nice loading, zoom is quality, the scroll is so Nintendo (its like a bungee jumper!) and lovely interface.

I see it now stars out your passwords when you're typing them. Nice idea, but pretty pointless if anyone spying on you can see the keys you're clicking. Still not fixed the .com thing when you do a full stop with predictive on, either.. Still definitely worth the upgrade, though.

So why do you want to know? Nah, i'm just kiddin' ya - I'm not trying to belittle you here, lad. get a Wii and you can download the browser for free. And by the way, it's one awesome browser this time. it works better (I can finally watch shows on youtube this time!) and hiding the bar is easy. And the straight link to entering a webdress is fun and makes thing seasy. Keep up the good work!

The browser is free from 12th of April to 1st July 2007. Then it costs a mere 500 Wii Points to keep.

12th April, 2007- Now you can search, surf and shop from the comfort of your living room with the Internet Channel on Wii. Featuring a number of enhancements to improve the user experience as well as a host of added extras, the full version of the Internet Channel, powered by Opera, is available for free download across Europe on 12th April 2007.

Fans of the innovative Wii Channels will already be familiar with the Internet Channel, which delivers their high-speed Internet access via their television sets. Based on feedback from Wii owners, Nintendo has created a new and enhanced version of the browser featuring improvements to the user experience as well as a performance upgrade.

Users of the Trial Version will notice the improved usability of the full version. The browser now features a manual zoom, in addition to the automatic mode available in the previous version, allowing more viewing flexibility. When zooming in and out, texts are kept crisp and readable at all sizes. The new version of the Internet Channel also features improved scrolling functionality, as well as collapsible toolbars and multiple on-screen cursors.

Search functions have become an essential part of our everyday Internet experience, with many of us selecting a search engine as our home page. To reflect the impact of search functions on our browsing experience, the Internet Channel now features an in-built function allowing users to query terms without having to go to a search engine. Wii owners are given the choice of either selecting Yahoo! Search or Google as pre-selected search engines to power their inbuilt search button. The selection can be changed at any time. Users will also have the ability to easily access Nintendo, Yahoo!, Google and My Opera from pre-loaded bookmarks.

The Internet Channel provides an improved surfing experience, but the Wii System Menu also gives parents control over what their children view with Parental Control options. Users are able to set a password, which can be used to restrict access to the Internet Channel if desired. For users looking for even more protection, Nintendo is also including a bookmark in the Wii Browser for the Astaro Wii Content Filtering Portal. This is a parental control system solely provided on Wii by Astaro, a leading provider of internet security appliances, which will be available from 7th May 2007. Here, users can try out and sign-up for Astaro’s world-class content filtering service on their Wii.

Laurent Fischer, European Marketing Director of Nintendo Europe commented:

“We are thrilled to be able to offer Wii owners an improved, simple and safe internet service through the Opera Browser. The new version of the Internet Channel will allow the whole family to experience the internet from the comfort of their couch in a safe and secure environment.”

The final version of the Internet Channel is available for free download from 12th April 2007 until 30th June 2007, after which it will cost 500 Wii Points. Once downloaded, the Internet Channel is free for the lifetime of the system.

Love it!

Seriously this thing is pretty much perfect now, all of my issues with the trial version have been sorted (was a bit worried at first that it still wasn't full-screen, but I quickly found the option to change it) it's faster, and seems to be much more reliable. I'm not bothered about the lack of tabs and the scrolling thing, it's a bit too sensitive but at least now you can also use the D-Pad to scroll for a bit more control.

It still doesn't beat browsing on a PC (I was never expecting that anyway) but it's a fantastic alternative for sure. http://www.n-europe.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif

you have a secure network, you need to find out the WEP key. once you have it reset your internet connection on the Wii and search for and access point it will find it again and you just put in the Key code.

I think it means that once you've purchased the Full Version, it is then free for the life of the system. It might even mean that they'll produce more updates to the Internet Channel without charging us. Wishful thinking there probably!

Alrighty, I kinda didn't understand a word you said ^^;; I did look on the Wifi site but all it said was the WEP key thing and i've got no idea how to find it or where to enter it on the Wii I couldn't see anyplace for a WEP key in the connection settings when I was there.

..since updating my Wii I am now unable to get connected to the server.. whats the deal with that?

EDIT: Why the HELL won't you connect?!

EDIT: Got myself connected :heh: (Downloading Final version now..)

EDIT: This is so much better! The Zoom has improved loads and I like being able to scroll with the D-Pad now aswell as the B-Button (which will probably take a little bit of time to get used to since its changed, but for the better I feel). All I need is a keyboard that plus into the Wii Remote and I'd never have to leave my bed :heh: (I would though..)

I agree that's what it sounds like, but I honestly can't believe they'll abandon the opportunity to charge up to six million people the privelege of continuing to use the Internet channel, most of whom will pay.

Stranger things have happened though.

Well, I like it, and I ain't got no problems. I especially like the fact that it's now full screen, and I love the little animation thingy it loads when you select the channel - very clever.

My only problem with it now is something that was always gonna be a fundamental problem - no real life keyboard to type with. Selecting things with the Wii-mote was always gonna be far too slow for me.

But I loved the excitement of waking up this morning and seeing the little blue light on my Wii flashing away... possibly the best bit for me. :D

I like the scroll feature much more now, although it took a while to get used to. Overall, I think it's easier to use - I'm so pleased you can hide the toobar now as that drove me crazy before. My only gripe is I'd love the ability to use the BBC Listen Again radio but console browsers don't support this. Good on Virgin Radio for developing a solution that works on the Wii - hopefully other broadcasters will follow suit.
