That sucks, they only just finished the project. Its a huge shame this happend and he'll never see the rewards of all his effort.

Man he was younger than me. He was only 15.

Hellfire
25-03-2007, 04:16 PM
He wasn't even 16 man...
I don't think it's correct to talk about his project since we're talking about the death a person, but they're not going to finish it, even though I think he would have liked to see it released. This is really messed up, his family and friends must be devastated.

I don't think they're going about this the right way..I'm pretty sure Dampe would have wanted the project to be carried on.

If I was working hard on something, and suddenly died, I'd want to be safe in the knowledge that someone will finish it off.

I read the story earlier and posted a comment on the frontpage. It's a sad story, and a big loss to those concerned.

To be honest, i think a website is the last thing he would be thinking of...

damn shame.

the project deserves to be completed though. I'd want my hard work to finish if I was killed...unless, you know, it was a book or something.

Faking your own death? What a horrible thing to do.

Unless the Chinese are after him, of course.

So maybe he did get hit by a car, but had a fairy in a jar. (Flipping heck, think if it'd been Jordan).

Just went to his profile on youtube and saw he logged on 5 hours ago and posted a bulletin saying this:
Seriously guys, I am really dead. You need to stop calling me names because that is disrespectful to do to a dead person.

He's logged into all his online accounts after his death, as recently as yesterday.

Is this deliberate? In OOT Dampe was a ghost...

well this little 10 point plan as to why he did it, somes it up pretty well:

1. No rain in his area for several days, ruling out death by a car that swerved off the road to hit him. [NB there was 1mm of rain on Wednesday 21 March]
2. No local news in his area mentions the death of a teenager named Richard Denton.
3. No info at local police stations about an accident.
4. There were several Ocarina of Time 2D projects. His was being done in Gamemaker and it was the least impressive.
5. Months and months of work and we get a few screenshots of the Deku Tree.
6. Only 15 years old. I’m the same age and I frequently move from different stuff, getting bored quickly with the same things. He could’ve gotten tired of it.
7. Pressure. People would expect great things from anything with the words “Ocarina of Time” in the title. He might have cracked.
8. “Mention OoT2D on the forum and you’re banned. Forget about it. His family doesn’t want you to talk about it.” ^Short version of what was posted on the site. Why would mentioning it be bad? Why would his family care so much about a project they probably didn’t know or care about? Why would they be so desperate to eliminate all traces of it if they were grieving so much? If I died I think my family would have other matters besides shutting down my accounts on the Sony and Nintendo forums.
9. His account was acessed a few hours after his “death”.
10. A bit too perfect. The brilliant young developer is tragically killed and his last words were “I love you” to his girlfriend.

That's so very sad. Instead of coming out and saying it, at least that would've given him some credit.

I knew it was a faked death but didn't want to post that for fear of being shot down on here.

What a pathetic joke.

True dat. Or to use your death as an excuse to rip a man's throat out with your own teeth.

See I wouldn't have gone as far to say I thought it was a faked death, but did think it was suspect.

It is more than likely a faked death. The online records of his town don't list him in the obituaries and his Everquest account has been accessed quite a bit since his death apparently.
Most people think he’s just taken all the money that people donated to OOT 2D and ended his ‘internet life’ in a way.
If he’s not faking it though, my thoughts will definitely be with his family.

Wow, a lot of evidence to him having faked his death, including access to various accounts such as MMOs and Youtube account... I guess I hope that it's true that he faked it, but that's so very wrong....

Exactly like me. This is low. I remember in an issue of N-Gamer, they said how the game wasn't real. Those screen shots could have been easily made on paint, and I guess that he didn't expect his lie would become so huge. He couldn't tell those hundreds of people on his forum that it was faked, so ... he made them pity him instead.

He certainly is brain dead, damn young whippersnappers. Not that I cared if he really was.

Was also going to do the same the day this thread went up.........or it was a bit suspect at least. Just didn't want to deal with certain people psyching out at me for saying bad things about someone who was supposedly dead.

And yes, a pathetic joke, and makes sense for a 15 year old to do such a thing.

Pathetic.

He could have just announced it was vapourware. Bet he got stuck straight away trying to work out exactly how the Water Temple would work in 2D.

I'm just annoyed that there's still a chance of this pointless project going ahead, at least when he was "dead" so was the project. Damn kid.

That's so tasteless. A few years ago, I went on a skiing holiday for a week and while I was gone one of my friends posted on a forum that I was a regular at telling them that I'd died in a skiing accident. It was so eerie when I got home and seen all the messages of condolence on the site.. I had to quickly clear up that I had nothing to do with the prank.

This is awesome. Come on, faking your own death? If he aat least took the time to erase all traces - like YouTube accounts. If this chap ran off with money of others, he might be assured of a restless life all thanks to a copy of PAINT... This is going to become quite a nice scandal. Wonderfully faked death - except for the fact that people haven't seen his dead body, funeral, prove. He's in for some trouble...
