I've just finished reading through the various XBOX 360 todge thats on the internet and everytime i'm left thinking should I of really brought this console anyway thats not the point of my thread.

I remember back in the good old days of gaming I used to have little Sega/Nintendo battles with my cousin. He'd be like my consoles got 16 Bit graphics and i'd be like oh my Nes only has 8. And then this came up again when his Playstation was 32 bit and my N64 was 64 bit.

Now then we all know that the current consoles are 128 bit.

But now that everyone is the same they don't bother to brag about it no more so what is the XBOX360 is it 256bit?

Very random thought in my head i will not be able to sleep till this is cleared up

Current consoles aren't 128bit.

PS2 - 128bit CPU
GameCube - 64bit CPU
Xbox - 32bit CPU
GBA - 16 or 32bit
NintendoDS - 32bit

X360, PS3, Revolution - 64bit CPU

There was a long thread about this on the revolution board. It only describes the size of number in binary that a processor can store in it's registers, and doesn't really give much of an indication of how powerful a CPU is. Once upon a time, it meant a slight performance boost due to the low clock speeds and the restricted maths that CPUs could do. These days, the only thing it has a bearing on are the memory addresses accessible, and some floating point characteristics.

The whole bit thing stopped basically when this generations of consoles hit. The architecture all changed.
