It was officially revealed today that Daniel Craig (who starred in Layer Cake); will be the new James Bond! and the first blonde James Bond at that!
http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/sony_pictures_classics/layer_cake/daniel_craig/layercake3.jpg
He has signed up to play the role of 007 in the future Bond film; Casino Royale (remake).
Apparently the commitment for James Bond nowadays is for a minimum of 10 years; so unless he gets a bad response and the production company EON let him go, it looks like he'll be around for the next 3-4 Bond films!
IMO, i don't think he's the best for the part, but then again who else was there; no-one really!
I wouldn't have liked to see the role go to Clive Owen, Hugh Jackman, Colin Farrell or Orlando Bloom!
I'd have liked to see Pierce Brosnam again, but that just because i think he is perfect for the part; but Pierce was going to have to be replaced someday and i suppose this is a bit of a new direction (him being blonde) so it could be a good way to go.
I do think he looks abit more of a Timothy Doltan in style though (and that's not a good thing for James Bond, lol)!

Pah, it was revealed three days ago...

(I hate to be one of those tossers that posts just to say "Oh that's so old" or "Seen it before", adding absolutely nothing to the thread. So I'll add that if I ever meet any of them in person I'll be punching them in their stupid little face).

Hmmmm... he doesn't seem that great. Although Layer Cake is apparently a fantastic film. So we'll see.

He was rumoured to be the choice 6 months ago so it's no surprise, but at least they've finally made it official.
Not seen any of his films, but he doesn't look the part to me. Hopefully his acting will be good. They could have done far worse though.
I think 007 is just about over.. I can't see them rediscoving the magic of the series.

Never heard of that guy before but at least he seems to be better than Timothy Dalton, Lazenby. But I prefer a time machine to get Roger Moore or Sean Connery back or maybe even Brosnan.
But I am lucky that it is not Leonardo di Caprio or some other teeny idol.

Mine too. I love the old films like Man With A Golden Gun and Live And Let Die, but GoldenEye is #1.

All he is to me is 'random guy from Tomb Raider'. A remake of Casino Royale though, desperation methinks.

Yeah your right, he's from Tomb Raider (wondered where I've seen him before), didn't like him there - and now he's playing James Bond ahhhh...
Apart from Brosnan no Bond actor came close to Connery and Moore imo. I would have liked Jeremy Northam as the new Bond and he was also asked - one of the first actually - but he refused.
Christian Bale would probably also be good as Bond, I saw him in various films and he acted so convincing in all of them and he is also the first actor I believe he "is" Bruce Wayne and Batman (apart from Adam West of course).

Never heard of Daniel Craig before. I thought i've seen him before though in Tomb Raider. The earlier 007 films were great. My best 007 is Goldeneye followed by Moonraker. The Bond makers must have run out of ideas already after Die another Day by opting to re-make Casino Royale. I thought all the Bond books were already made into films (some wern't made officially)

Yeah i think they ran out a while ago; at least I dont' think any of the Pierce Brosnan films were books!
The only book that wasnt an actually bond film is Casnio Royale, though the name was used for a comedy bond move starring the late David Niven and Woody Allen.
Even though all the book names have been used for the names of the books, most of the story lines are completely different.
I have all the bond movies and books as Im a huge fan.
But today looks a bad day for us bond fans :'(

I don't see the problem...
I would think the storyline is key to a Bond film, and as of late - they have been fucking awful.

The latest news;
Campbell — who directed Brosnan's first Bond film, "GoldenEye," in 1995 — said the movie would be "tougher and grittier" than previous films, with "more character and less gadgets." He said the story would begin with Bond first becoming a "00" agent.
"It is really the arc in which he becomes Bond," Campbell said. "He starts out just having earned his double-0 stripes and comes out at the end the Bond we know and love."
"A lot of the embryonic Bond things will come out in the film — how he gets the Aston Martin, how he mixes a Martini."
"Casino Royale" is due to being filming in January in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and at Pinewood Studios near London. Campbell said the budget likely will exceed $100 million.
I also heard they were going to get rid of 'Q' and 'M' from the films!!!
Well if you want to make the film "less about gadgets", getting rid of 'Q' is a sure fire way of doing it!! Bastards!
A great part of James Bond is the cool/fun gadgets!!
A great part of James Bond is the cool/fun gadgets!!
ermm a reason why the newest bond movies have been so wank is cos of those bloody gadgets so less of them is excellent :).
Just thinking if its a prequel I guess its going to be shot like its back in the 60's, if its shot in the modern day I really will crack up.

It depends what you class as a gadget! I would call ALL of James Bonds accessories gadgets; as they are all given to him by 'Q', and therefore i feel loosing some of them could be a bad move
But if you only class gadgets as e.g. the watch laser etc... then have the recent films actually featured that many? His watch is mainly the gadget nowadays, with laser, detonator, zipwire cable (or was that his belt?).
I'd of said the older films had more; there certainly hasn't been things like toothpaste plastique explosive!

'Prequels' seem to be the new 'sequel' in teh movie biz, no?
.. I'm all for it! I think it's better to have a radical new approach (i.e. a Blonde Bond - big deal) compared to a Brosnan look-a-like. I am a fan of prequels - or at least the idea of them- As a character Bond can hardly progress can he? At least this gives us a chance to see how he became the Bond we know now.
I like the idea of no Q as well -- Not because I don't like John Cleese (or Desmond either) but just because it means already the whole formula of Bond films is being tinkered with, and tinkering is most certainly what's needed for the stale loaf that is the Bond movie.
Bond being a noob. Why not?

I can say they were no good, because they were no good :p.
When I sit down to watch a bond movie, I dont want to see all that gadget crap. It used to be Bond surivied using only his, charm, skill, chrasima and a good old fist fight. Pierce didnt have these and always had to resort to gadgets which was an aweful shame as he was great in the last good bond movie goldeneye. No fault of his I guess but they really should hire scriptwriters that have read the books and not just people who try to think of what gadgets to throw in.
Still dont like the choice of bond but i guess just dye his hair, get the screenplay sorted and all will be good :)

The simplar the gadgets are the better. An invisable car - cmon.. Look att he simple stuff - an exploding pen and that original Aston, Sheer class. Bong needs to go back to the roots and focus on a fukcing decent storyline. Just make all the film set in the 70s and 80s. No one can beat an ex-Soviet baddy :)

I kinda see what your saying and 'Blackfox' i agree the invisible car was a step WAY to far, but to say Bond only used to get by on his charm and skill etc...
How about his Jetpack! (they're hardly an everyday thing!!!), his little yellow Micro-light plane, as i mentioned; his plastique toothpaste with the cirarette explosive etc...
I think Brosnans Bond was just going with the times; using technological advances as any secret agent should!! They've got to be the best! But again, the invisible car was too far!

They were God damn stupid. I'm willing to suspend my belief if I need to, but the inclusion of stupid shit like that ruined Bond for me. It went from 'Bond, you cunning sly genius, you can get out of any situation because you're so damn good', to 'OH HOW LUCKY YOU JUST SO HAPPENNED TO HAVE AN INVISIBLE LIZARD MAN KILLING AEROPLANE IN YOUR BACK POCKET'.

What I am not feeling about this bloke is that on the way back home from having an eye test they mentioned him arriving on a boat flanked by Royal Marines or something, and they mentioned him wearing a "red tie" which sent alarm bells in my head. Bond does not wear red ties [And if he has in a film it was part of his disguise ¬_¬]. The reporter also said it was as he wasn't stepping off the boat as Daniel Craig, but as James Bond.
Later I see him on his dinky boat and not only is he wearing the red tie I heard before, but a blue shirt. BLUE! James Bond is not a tacky stock broker from Hull. He wears white shirts and black fucking ties!

That wasn't anything to do with the filming of the next James Bond; as that doesn't start until January.
Those videos of him arriving on a boat have been shown on the news all day; I think it's just him turning up to the official announcement (I only saw the headlines each time)!

HAHAHAHA I love it when people say Bond is English :p
Bond is not English and I will repeat Bond is not English.
Quoted from wikipedia.org
James Bond is the son of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix, both of whom died in a mountain climbing accident in the Aiguilles Rouges, when Bond was 11 years old. James went to live with his Aunt, Miss Charmian Bond, in Kent. Bond's family motto, which was later adopted by James Bond during "Operation Corona" in the novel On Her Majesty's Secret Service is Orbis non sufficit (Latin for "The world is not enough").

haha!, this looks to be the shittest bond yet, shittier than never say never
Are you kidding me? Casino Royale is shaping up to be the best Bond flick in years. From the sounds of things, they're returning to the roots of the franchise, which if you ask me is a return long-overdue. I mean, just take a look at the last few Bond movies; they portrayed Bond as more of a super-hero figure than a spy. Die Another Day was a mockery of the greatness of the early films.

Brosnan is in my opinion the best Bond yet followed by Sean Connery and both were unknown before making 007. At first I dont really like him, but who knows, he might be right for the job. 007 movies suck anyway.
