So its the 41st Superbowl. Who will you be cheering on tonight? Colts or the Bears?
I dont support either team but it's gonna be a hell of a game to watch.
10:30pm(GMT) ITV and Sky Sports.
Whats your predictions?

I don't know which teams are which, but the Bears have a cool name.... so...
Go the Bears!!!
I'll be on XBL during it if anyone else wants to converse in conversation about the highly difficult rules and why it shouldn't even have Football in the title.
Rugby PWNS American Football!

Rugby does indeed pwn American Football.
Still, GO BEARS!!!

Rugby players are too scared to make tackles like I've seen watching NFL, hence the body armour.

I'll watch it for as long as I can stay awake for. I dislike both teams though, but i'll allow manning to win it if it means commentators will stop going on about him.

They brought in the padding because quite a few people died in the first couple of years it was played.

American football > rugby. So many harder tackles and broken bones in American football.
I'll probably support the Colts. I'll go for 38-35 to the Colts.
or else you will DIE

American Football is much better than Rugby.
Still, I'm just looking forward to Prince's halftime show

Cirque du Soleil are performing before it, I hope we get to see that in the UK. They're immense.

Highly unlikely that the Bears will put up 35 points. Highly unlikely the Colts will too against the Bears D. Also...the rugby vs american football toughness debate is stupid because both of them are at the same level of physicality, just in different ways...rugby is attritional whilst football is more explosive so it's hard to make a proper comparison. I've taken a lot hits in rugby before (the last proper hit I made was on a 14st outside centre. Took him down but I was incredibly groggy for a minute or two...) and I think it would be the same taking a hit in football. But whatever, I love both sports.
I prefer rugby as a sport because it flows much better plus I prefer the fact that you have to be competent on both sides of the ball in rugby. But I enjoy American football for the precision of executing plays etc. Not only that but as a Northampton Saints/Denver Broncos supporter I have much more to cheer about in the NFL than I do in rugby :heh:
But I don't really care who wins this one really. As much as I want Peytato-head to lose...if he does there'll be even more rules next year to help them win the SB. So. I'm not sure. I find the Bears an inoffensive team though...that said the AFC is a much stronger conference and deserves the SB.

Can't say I really understand too much about American Football or the teams that are playing, but I guess I might get a few beers in and watch it a while and see how it goes. If we get bored we can play the drinking game we did a couple of years back, just drink everytime the commentator says play.

I am not a fan of either team , but I believe the Colts may just edge this.
There is no denying that the Bears have looked superb on defense this year and I think this will be the only reason it stays close. Manning looks like he may have proved that he can finally handle the big game (after all these years being labelled a 'choker') but I still feel that the Bears can show enough different looks on D to confuse him and cause him to throw a couple of picks.
The Colts defense has certainly picked up in the post-season but I think that Rex Grossman (despite looking improved the last couple of weeks) is due to have another bad game very soon and wonder if tonight will be that game. In that scenario the Bears best chance would lie in establishing Thomas Jones on the ground and to shorten the game , a few weeks ago this would have been highly likely against the Colts but after the improvements made in recent weeks by the Colts D that may no longer be the case.
I am looking forward to this as the Superbowl is my sporting highlight of the year but due to my dislike of both these teams I am not looking forward as much as I previously would have done.

I got into it last year and the rules are really really simple, the only thing that is confusing are the plays the coaches use but you dont need to understand them to enjoy the game.

Without a doubt. I saw my first game about 17 years ago and have been hooked ever since.
I don't know if you have Sky Sports or not , but as it's going to be your first game you may be best served by watching it on ITV anyway. That particular commentary feed is more geared towards those who don't watch the sport a lot/if ever * and you may get a better understanding of the sport as a result.
Although you will get a far better analysis from Sky and HD pictures too (if available to you).
* not meant to be demeaning in anyway but I feel you may enjoy it more that way.

The venue is pre-determined a few years in advance by the league.
As long as it is held in an indoor stadium or a warm weather city those a really th only deciding factors.
The reason being that the game itself is used as a massive marketing/corporate event so this gives the opportunity to have all the pre-game , half-time spectacles that are now a major part of the event.
This is my one major gripe with the game as I believe the sport is essentially an outside game and should be played in conditions that truly reflect that. Obviously my support of the Seahawks (outdoor and rainy) may reflect this opinion.

if you're watching it on sky sports I would suggest pressing the red button to get the american comentary, so much better than the Brittish comentators.
Edit: Ignore that, they're doing the American comentary ont he main show. It was the other way round last year.

Thanks. I suppose they can't have something like Wembley because of the size of the country and need to move to different parts to be fair

I have had this on for like 10 - 15 minutes and it has gone to 3 advert breaks... what a joke.
How can I get into a game that has this many advert breaks and also stops and starts so much during play. It's so boring.

Personally I'd rather watch a few adverts than watch them all stand around and talk in between plays and in timeouts.

1 billion people wont be watching it. Population of the US is about 350 million, yeah? Not even all of them will be watching it, hardly anyone outside the US and Canada will be watching it.
The World Cup Final only got about 400 million views this year and its a much more international event than this.

Cant believe how quick it started. Most turnovers in a superbowl is 11, they're gonna beat that tonight.

I enjoy Madden immensily, and yet I find the actual sport so sinfully dull to watch. I tried the one last year and almost gerotted myself after twenty minutes.
I'm also trying to imagine where the other 550mil viewers are coming from. It's difficult to imagine more then about 30 people watching across all of Europe.

Best match i've ever seen. It started off so quick, its a shame it slowed down a lot. At the beginning I thought my prediction would ome true, but then by the third quarter it wasnt gonna happen.
I've signed up for a ticket for the Dolphins vs Giants in London on the 28th October. www.nfllondon2007.com (i think)

I realised after the hype I was in for putting my name down I only went for 1. So I havnt got any for my friends. I'll tell them the details and they can do it. Now if I do get the tickets, I need to find a way of travelling down to London. I'm trying to find ticket prices, but I had no luck. I will look again.
I'll be going for the Giants in that match. I dont know why, I just dont like the Dolphins.

I'll be honest, I wasn't impressed, I dislike how its so over the top for such a dull sport, yet I still watched it.
What pissed me off most was the big money bags piece of crap taking the trophy, it should be the players who receive a trophy. Not some guy who clearly bought the club for money, and the over use of the words franchise and organisation, and not the words team, players or manager. What a load of rubbish. And he babbled on about God getting them to final, get lost son, it was those people you pay to play for your little earner. Todger.

Manning should never have got MVP anyway. Addai was for more important to their win imo.

Certainly wasn't the best game I have ever seen but still pretty entertaining anyway.
At least the Colts deserved the victory (yes , I am STILL bitter about XL) , but agree with the above that Manning didn't deserve the MVP award , I voted for Addai.
