Plus it always sorta feels like a sad day for me cause it's the day my grandma died I think, 12 years ago now. =(

I try not to acknowledge Valentines Day. Not because I'm a bitter, loveless social recluse, oh no.

Valentines Day is an excuse for girls to get what they want out of men. I swear, it's like they expect you to plan things and spend money on them, since when was it "make your boyfriend poor day" eh?!
It's never equal. Sure they might buy you a card and a present if you're lucky, but you have to do that as well as buy the meal and what ever else.
Have been with my g/f for a few years now though and we're not that bothered about it anymore, so i'll probably get away with just a meal. Still puts me out £40 probably though, damn restaurants exploiting the day!

Excellent point. In a moment of current world evaluation, i'd say girls have it pretty good, maybe even better than guys. Thought they'll never admit it. when a girl gets hired over a man just so the company can say, look we're not sexist, that right there is sexist to men, but they can never agree that thats the way they saw the situation. I say all interviews should be under an anonomous name, done behind a screen and through a voice varying box.
But i digress :p

Romance is a waste of time. Casual sex is the way forward.
True that.
Still haven't decided what to do. Having managed to avoid a situation in which I was with anyone on valentines day (last year I split up with my girlfriend 2 weeks before, year before I got with someone a week after it), I approach this year in between being with someone and not being with someone. Complicated isn't the word. However, I loathe the day as a poor excuse for present buying, considering that there shouldn't just be one day a year when you can show affection.
I'll probabily just end up giving her one of my old cuddly toys she's become attatched to. A small yellow dog called Benji that sits on my dashboard, he falls off when I accelerate or turn too quickly, and also makes my car stand out in a car park from miles away from his bright-yellowness. If I'm going to give a gift, I might as well give something that means something. Not just the standard chocolates, flowers, card or underwear. Thought that counts, eh?

30-01-2007, 07:42 PM
Girls presents to guys always suck even though they expect you to put in so much effort and thought.
I'm single this year, and my last relationship ended just after V-day last year. So I'll spend it thinking, "man last year I was gettin some, how depressing". Then I'll remember that I'm happier anyway :D
did that sound convincing?
Fierce_LiNk
30-01-2007, 08:19 PM
I wouldn't say Valentines Day was a complete waste of time.
Yeah, of course you should tell someone you love them all the time. (if you have someone you love)
But, finding the time to just spend time with a loved one is really quite difficult sometimes. I think we can all agree that life is hectic and so many things just get in the way, be it work, school, university, long distances, other problems, other issues.
It's like Christmas, in a way. Just setting time aside for someone else. To spend time with someone without letting all this other stuff get in the way.

I'm mixed about it. I get to buy my girlfriend nice flowers and chocolates and take her out for a meal. Which is good.
The bad thing is it feels like there is so much pressure to deliver an amazing day. And then on that day you have to talk about how much you love them, etc. Now, I don't have a problem with that last bit, it's just that it feels like you have to, and therefore I don't want to. And you can bet that girls compare what their boyfriends and them did on Valentines day; and you can bet some girls get annoyed if a friend's boyfriend did something better, etc. And it annoys me that it seems to be a day where shitty boyfriends pull out all the stops. It's about all the other days in between!
So basically: If no one ever talked about Valentines day then it would be awesome.

31-01-2007, 10:40 AM
i pretty much totally agree with you, Wes. Last year, as my girlfriend and I walked through Leeds on valentine's day, she kept pointing out all the people with roses, and all the rose-sellers who were, nearly completely literally, on every goddamn street-corner..
She couldn't see that the two reasons she pointed out as reasons I should get her a rose were two precise reasons why I didn't. If you give your girl a rose any other day of the year, she's going to be grinning at least twice as madly. PLUS she doesn't even like roses, as they remind her of death...
Weirdly, later that night we went to buy our 'romantic dinner' at ASDA (chicken fajitas!), and God himself gave her a rose and me a yorkie bar. Well ok, he was a church missionary... but I figure that this was a sign that I needn't have to buy her a rose EVER.
I'll probably give her some flowers the weekend before v-day.
Valentines day sucks ass, it also sucks ass it's so close to my birthday.
The best thing that happened to me on Feb 14th of any year was last year when i had some really amazing sex.
Valentines day isn't about love, its about cliche and being annoying. It's a time when relationships are usually put under strain and single people feel neglected and stuff. I'm very happy that i have never been in a relationship on valentines day, and as much as i can appreciate a good long relationship i can never see myself ever 'celebrating' this day. I would have to tell the person i was with that "i'm not going to do anything for it other than be normal and see you and you better not buy me anything or do anything OTT or else i'll slap ya :heh:"
Thats my 2 cents anywho.

I would have to tell the person i was with that "i'm not going to do anything for it other than be normal and see you and you better not buy me anything or do anything OTT or else i'll slap ya "
Thats my 2 cents anywho.
exactly plus being gay doesnt help either.i get upset sometimes

I know this really cool guy who I met through a friend, and his name is Valentine which kind of added to his coolness sort of. I found out today, tomorrow is his birthday which sort of explains his name(he probably told me before, but I was probably drunk too). That is all I have to say on the subject of Valentine's Day.

I don't mind Valentines day as a day for showing the one you love how much you love them. But I hate it how you're obliged to do and buy something. All the stuff about how you have to be romantic and how you have to get her something nice. Plus if I bought my gf something on any other day of the year she would appreciate it a lot more than if I bought it on february the 14th.

I just got my chick her present, me and my friend Ben bought some flat boost (cheap energy drink) from home and bargins so we were buzzing round the strand (shopping centre) like a couple of school kids. Now I'm usually good with presents, but nowhere had the DVD I wanted to get her so we just thought fuck it and bought the funniest thing we could find. ^_^ It was one of those situations were you in stiches laughing for no reason, I ended up buying a pink and red catipillar teddy saying "your my love bug" on it. Nice knowing you guys, I'm dead tommorow! >_<

Weirdly, later that night we went to buy our 'romantic dinner' at ASDA (chicken fajitas!), and God himself gave her a rose and me a yorkie bar. Well ok, he was a church missionary... but I figure that this was a sign that I needn't have to buy her a rose EVER.
I thought it would be unlikely God shopped at Asda.
Im doing nothing on Valentines day (except Uni)...maybe. I dunno, my 'friend' and I arranged to go for a drink because his girlfriend is at uni and he has the week off (otherwise I'd never see him) and I kinda want to, because I ended up spending Valentines day with him last year (because, as I later learnt, his then-girlfriend and him had a huge row a few days before) but im not in the mood to see or talk to anyone right now.

The wife and I don't do Valentines day. A few years ago she gave me a card and the first thing I did was point out a spelling mistake. Apparently that's not romantic and it spoilt the whole day. Therefore, no more Valentines for us.

You all complain too much about this day. Just ignore it if it bothers you. I don't care much about Valentine's Day and thus don't pay attention to it. And it helps, cause I'd even forgotten it was today. Just stop being bitter; there still are some people who do enjoy this day to just do stuff with their loved ones.

I've only got her a card and chocolates. We were to be going out for grub, but she's been unwell this week so we arent. Instead we're gonna oven a couple of quiesh (actually, how do you spell that?!) and play some Wii. Oh yes, you heard that right. Copied this from the meaningless post thread.
Oh my, valenfuckingtines day sure was eventful. Beware for the long post, seriously.
First up, girlfriend and I are not together anymore. So, we decided it would be best to go out with 2 different sets of mates tonight.
Anyway, she went out an hour before me, and I was getting ready, I got a text message saying that she would be there with my mates in Wetherspoons. I was a bit annoyed, because I didn't really want her to be there on Valentines Day, not in this way at least.
So, I got to wetherspoons. And, surprise number 2: That girl I had some shameless flirting with on her birthday: Backstory is, I sent her a message a few days after, after discovering she had a boyfriend, and I basically apologised for it. I don't like it when guys try and get on other girls who are already taken, so I felt bad. I didn't know at the time. Anyway, turns out she split up with her boyfriend yesterday. I don't think she's interested anymore either, as she seemed to be trying it on with other blokes, so it's just my fucking luck.
Then, surprise number 3: My friend Chris has a friend from Southampton called Ali. She came down to see him for the day, and I've only met her once before, but she's nice. Turns out, Chris had text messaged a girl (Danielle) he had a fling with 3 weeks ago asking her to be at Wetherspoons. The girl can only be described as half man, half forehead. Think of Vigo the Carpathian in Ghostbusters 2, give it breasts, and you have her.
So, Ali was annoyed cos this girl was hogging Chris. Don't blame her, after she travelled all that way to see him.
Hours later, we were in a club, as it was 80's night. Danielle was still trying to get on Chris, Ali was annoyed, and my ex was drowning her sorrows by getting hideously drunk. My other friend told me that she had broke down in the toilets and was geniunally sorry for what she did, etc, and that she loved me. A bit annoyed at my mate, as I asked her on my birthday if she thought me and my ex would get back together, and she said no.
Anyway, my ex and Danielle sorta befriended each other. My ex got really emotional and went to get her coat to leave. She came back saying that her keys had been stolen, and that could she borrow mine. I was reluctant, but did. We left the club about an hour later, got in a taxi with some friends, and got dropped off. I was walking with Ali, and I said to her that to stop it from being an unsuccessful valentines day and to at least salvage something, we should exchange numbers. We giggled, and did it. So yeah, go me. (there's more later)
I turned the doorhandle, but it was locked. I started knocking...no answer. I went to the side of the house and shouted at the window. Nothing. No lights were on, I had no idea if she was in or not. Basically, I was really, really fucked off. I tried putting my hand through the letterbox and opening the door from the inside, but it didn't work. So, I was cursing, I fucking marched down the street, walked the half mile or however long it was to the taxi rank and got a taxi to my friend's house- the same friend's who had dropped me off. Good job I had some money, otherwise what the fuck else could I have done?!
Got to their house, tried knocking, ringing the doorbell, tapping windows. Nothing. I turned the doorhandle, and it opened. See, now if only my ex had done that. Grrr.
I went in, and my mates were like Jiiim wtf are you doing here?! And I explained the story. They cheered me up a lot. We went upstairs and the four of us lay down on a double bed and just cuddled, it was funny haha.
Ali was sleeping in Chris's bed, as she was his guest. She came in asking how to turn the electric blanket on, and so I helped. I asked her if she was ok, etc, and we basically got talking. I climbed underneath the covers with her, and we more or less just talked all night. I got to my friend's house at 3, and by 8am we were still talking. I'm a "leg man" and she was wearing some small shorts into bed, and I was like :D inside.
So, we talked and talked about everything, how we were feeling, life etc. Then, I went to the toilets and came back. She was now on the floor sleeping, and I asked why she was doing this. She said she didn't want to make my ex angry or anything, cos she did love me and stuff. We had a discussion about this all night, and eventually, after hours, she came back into bed with me. We had a cuddle, which was lovely, and just carried on talking. When she finally did go to sleep, she slept on the floor. I offered to sleep on the floor and her on the bed, but she was stubborn, grrr.
Morning came, and my mates came in and started talking. I caught a few of them looking at me and her and then at me again when they spotted what clothing she was wearing. It probably looked wrong, hehe.
I also got a phone call from my ex, saying that she had left with Danielle last night, got lost and went home, and if I was ok, etc. I told her I'd deal with it when I got home.
Got a lift from Ali, and we said goodbye.
Then, went to my flat. My ex had just had a shower, and I told her to put her clothes on. I told her that last night, she had left me in the lurch, didn't really care how I was, embarassed both of us, and just ruined what was an ok night. So, I told her to leave her keys and to get out. She refused for ages, but it was only when I threatened to throw other stuff of hers out that she decided to leave. I know I was acting like a bastard, but I was so angry. Doesn't justify it, I know. I just told her to get out and said to her something about its nice to be left out in the cold isnt it.

A massage, is that what its called nowadays.
Mine was the usual round of uneventfulness with not a hint of lust of romance what so ever. Didn't even go out as no one could be arsed after going out on Tuesday. Had worse ones though, so I'm fairly happy.
i feel bad saying this but i had an amazingly fun random evening and i'm seeing the guy again in a bit to go to the cinema- kerching!

an excerpt from my night
".. As I approached my house I saw some flames outside it. There where candles in the snow in a heart shape with a "T" in it [my name is Thomas]. I rang the doorbell only to be met with a scantly clad woman with a rose in her mouth. All the lights in the house was off. She had tidied my entire house and put candels everywhere. She opened my bed room door and pushed me in. The bed room was alive with candles, the bed full of rose pedals and on the dresser where pictures of us, hearts and chocolate... undressed... yum.. great... Food out in a restaurant.. back home... good night"
