I really like the looks of some of the 360 games out there. They all sound really engagingand fun, and i have two friends that have them who i can swap games with easily.
There's just a few points that i need to let you know that aid me in my decision.
I need to play Metroid Corruption for wii at some point and i doubt i will buy 2 consoles.
It's unlikely that i will get xbox live
I need somewhere that has a smallish price.
There are different types of 360 arent there? Well i need to know which is best for me. Which type is cheapest but still plays well.
Thanks for your help.

360 over Wii every single time, I own them both. The 360 is by far the better console at the moment, there are so many good games out for it at the moment, on the Wii you'll struggle to get 2 excellent games.

Yes their is a rumoured new version of 360 out, but it depends how badly you want it, if you can wait about 6-12 months then sound
If you get one now get the £280, no YOU MUST get it the other one is a rip off.

If you don't intend to get Live I wouldn't buy one. Without Live an Xbox360 is just a generic console. With Live its a hybrid of highly addicitive online gaming.

Well the only problem with the Wii is that there are currently not that much games released yet but of course that will change.

That is not a rumour. It is fact that there will be a new revision with a new processor (just switched to 65nm otherwise same processr but should produce less heat and therefore easier to cool) and as far as I know it should get released this half-year...
What is a rumour is that this console might get a HDMI-Output too...
And no it probably won't be more expensive. They just changed the CPU (to 65nm) and coolers...
Btw.: I own both consoles. 360 bought January last year and now I bought the Wii (release date)... I am happy with both. They are different and both have their advantages and some nice games (XBox360 currently has more games but got also released over a year)...
PS3: No, I won't buy it (at least not for that price maybe after some price drops), especially it is not much better than the 360; if you ask me it is worse than the 360 (it has less memory and as far as I know the graphic card of the 360 should also be more powerful; the processor of the PS3 should be better though but if you have only half the memory you can't do that much)...
But I think of buying a PS2. Never had one and now - or at least after PS3 release in Europe - they are not that expensive anymore and after all it has some great games I am interested in (but I had the PS2 controller - is there a possibility to use a wired XBox360 controller?).
Its a difficult question to answer from my own perspective as the two consoles have different selling points.
I wouldnt be without either, but seriously feel that both machines are lacking in the releases dept atm to make any solid decision (The 360 is dissapointing being it as been on the shelves above 12 months now).
If you buy the 360, as everyone has echoed above, Premium pack is the only one worth its salt as the core pack is very crippled until you get the HDD anyway.

Xbox 360 with Live is so much better than Wii. You either get Zelda on Wii and wait for the next good game which unbelievably is an EA game right now (SSX), or you pick up a 360, grab Halo and Halo 2, and pick up a large selection of excellent games, go on Live and join a community of gamers.
Your choice.

Depends what kind of experience you're after, i'll state the obvious:
Graphics and kick-ass online play: 360
Innovative and fun gameplay: Wii.
They both have their shar of good games, i think at this point in time you personally would ahve more fun with a 360, as i know what you thought of the DS.

I had this problem last week and ended up with a Wii. I regret it now :(
1. More games on 360 and they're available cheaply
2. 360 is online
3. There is hardly any price difference between the 2 consoles. Wii bundles are around £240 with 2 games, 360 Premium bundles can be had for around £280 with 2 games
4. Once you look at multiplayer the Wii becomes very expensive, for a full 4 player set-up it costs £195 over and above the price of the console
5. Xbox 360 plays DVDs and other media
6. With the add-on Xbox 360 is the cheapest HD-DVD player around
Im now thinking about selling my Wii, will buy a new one next year

Online play or no, right now the 360 has tons of quality software, enough to last you at least a year based on its back catalogue alone. The difference between these two consoles - the significant difference - is that one is a conventional console and the other is new and different, with all pros and cons that come with that.
The Wii has enough fun games at the moment to last you until the next couple of fun games come out, but even then the quality of the software right now and the ones coming in a while won't stand a chance against things like Gears of War and Dead Rising from a *quality* perspective alone. Again though, they're new and different and feel fresh despite their relative mediocreness in some areas - and that's actually enough for some people to PREFER them. (me included)
SO
At the end of the day it's up to your own preference here. Are you sort of semi fed up with conventional games that you've been playing over the last fiveish years - enough to not really be bothered by the same games again with added definition and snazzyness on top? Then the 360 isn't for you. Do you want polished to perfection versions of games that are super predictable to a gamer that's been around for a while? Then you should go for it.
Nintendo were exactly right when they said the Wii is about something new for disillusioned older gamers, and if you fit that description then no drought of software will stop you from enjoying what's there, much more than playing essentially the same games again.

I'm facing tne same dilemma right now!
I'm a HUGE Nintendo fan, but at the moment there just aren't many games on Wii that I would get!
The only games would be Zelda and Wario Ware (and possibly Rayman), then there isn't much for a long time apart from Sonic (and possibly SSX and Eledees, but I'm not too fussed with these)!
Then looking into the future there still aren't that many confirmed games I can think of; Though they would all be must buys for me!!
Smash Bros (ages away)
Mario (ages away)
Metroid (ages away?)
Residen Evil (ages away and no news!)
Batallion Wars.
That's about it I think!
I'm really tempted to get a 360 and then a Wii in maybe 6 (or so) months time; though this news to me of the 'new' 360 has really caused a problem!
For the 360 there are alot of current games that I'd look at getting;
PGR3, GOW, Splinter Cell, GRAW, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Lost Planet, Tony Hawks, Kameo, Viva Pinata (maybe), and Halo 1 and 2.
Then there are alot of future games;
Halo 3, GRAW 2, Banjo Kazooie, Resi 5, Too Human, PGR4, Burnout 5, Turok, BIA: Hell's Highway, Virtua Tennis, Alan Wake, Stranglehold, Assassins Creed, HL2: Orange Box, Star Wars: Next Gen, Mass Effect, and probably more aswell!
What to do!! Wii or 360?
Will the revised 360 really be worth the wait?
and what Wii games are gonna be out in the next 6 months?

I don't know if you like RPGs or not but if there is Enchanted Arms already out for XBox360 and Blue Dragon should come out this year in Europe too...
Well: If you think of buying both why don't buy both?
But of course the question is if you shouldn't wait for new XBox360 revision for buying the first of the two consoles...
For Wii will come out Excite Truck next month... And Mortal Combat should also be out soon as far as I know...
The point is just: If you buy a new console WOULD you really buy over 2-3 games at the beginning?
King Boo has the problem that if I understand him right that he will only buy one console at all this console generation and therefore he is looking forward for certain Wii games and wants that "at all price" he necessarily would need to get a Wii...

There's a hundred games coming out for the 360 that look like they're worth owning, not to mention all the fantastic games that are currently out. As the Wii enters a dry patch (and considering theres about 4 games coming out for it this year, it doesn't look like the lack of games problem will be getting fixed any time soon) the 360 is looking better than it ever has.
It's without a doubt the best machine i've ever owned.

Your right in that I wouldn't buy any more than probably 2 games with Wii, so the current games drought wouldn't be a problem for a while;
but then once Zelda is completed I think the games drought will still be going for a long while yet! I can't see myself buying much else (other than maybe Sonic! I don't think Excitetruck will last long) until one of Nintendo's First Party games gets a release and who knows when that will be!
Does anyone have any news on the revised 360? Is it really worth the wait?
Also, there's every chance a 360 wouldn't last 12 months anyway and I could get a revised 360 as a replacement!

Mine is still working and it is now about a year old....
Who knows there might be some other games coming out too...
I am interested in Mortal Combat, Excite Truck and Sonic...
I would also be interested in Prince of Persia if I wouldn't already own The Two Thrones for PC...
But probably it is better to currently by a 360 if you look at the avaiblable games... I believe that the next Nintendo-Games (I mean games by Nintendo itself) will get released for the Wii before summer if not even autumn or winter...

The updated one will simply be running cooler and might have a HDMI port. So not really worth the wait imo. It's not exactly a DS Lite step up in redesign.

Its hard to compare, one has been out a year and has established itself... the others just getting started.
Also, at the end of the day, the VC is going to be... billions times better than XBLA.

It is difficult to compare the Wii and 360 because of how long they've both been out, but other than Zelda, the 'Must Have' titles for Wii seem such a LONG way away and we here such little news/confirmation for them!

Well, I don't think billions times better is right. XBLA has games in HD, games with online modes, and essentially new games out on it. The games on VC will all have been seen before.
Most XBLA games are fairly crap, but I will play more of Worms and Geometry Wars than anything on VC.
I think there will be more, better games on VC, but then you have to remember the price of paying for games you've played before with no extras.

My opinion? If you aren't in hurry, just wait. X360 will have price drop sooner or later and 65 nm will be good improvement over old one. With Wii, pretty much same thing. Just wait library to grow and prices go lower. And of course, there is possibility of purchasing PS2 or Xbox to fill gap. Both have many great titles for dirt cheap prices.

Exactly.
Halo 1 had an amazing and quite epic single player campaign.
Halo 2's as admitted by Bungie was rushed, boring, same room shooting level after level.
Halo 3 better fucking make up for Halo 2.
SimonM7
28-01-2007, 06:09 PM
I thought Halo 2's campaign was better than the screaming fans did to be honest. To me the game was never about master chief, so the fact that it ended with The Arbiter's conclusion to the covenant arc wasn't really a problem at all.
I just missed the awe. Awe was what made Halo 1 special beyond its fantastic gameplay, and the gameplay is fantastic-er in Halo 2 in many ways, it just lacks the awe.
Bring back the awe in Halo 3 and it's another hit. Gears was never inspiring on that level anyway, so beating that in the awe department won't be difficult.

I'm just worried this notion will in itself destroy the possibility of a Halo 1 quality third game.
I wish they'd just separate them, because if they try to be best at both something will suffer. Multiplayer balanced single player weapons craps all over the arsenal progression that makes a cool solo campaign, and the fact that everything has to "work" in multiplayer means that their hands are completely tied for solo and ensures that no wacky surprises will happen.
Dual wield was great for the solo campaign in 2 and people got EACHOTHER'S panties in a bunch over its awfulness in multiplayer. I smell trouble if Bungie "learned from their mistake".

I was just reading through the thread and its just so tough! For me there are 10 really good games that will be released for wii, but then again 360 has already been out for a year and theres 20 games that look really cool.
As for Live, i will not be able to use it (how much it is again?) and everyone says that they're useless without it.
Wii has got mario and metroid which i have cravings for, and then theres all of the cool mystery titles you get which surprise you because they come out of the blue. Im definetly not a handheld person, but it seems with consoles (for me) you get much better value. the DS shelf is the same as it was at launch practically, but the gamecube was pretty good i thought.
In the short term, wii is cheaper than the 360, but when you add up the controller costs, virtual console etc it just adds up.
Im just at a total loss right now.

As to the amount of titles worth buying, dunno what to say re: my earlier comment....I hate Halo 1 & 2 PGR3 and the range of software on the shelves seems a little bit uninspiring to me atm. The backwards compatibility table looked crap the last time I checked it, Im still waiting for them to add The Warriors and most of my other Xbox collection and Space Giraffe isnt going to be available until about April on Xbox live market place along with Guitar Hero 2 (The only other game that has inspired me to purchase).

Actually you are wrong. Xbox 360 games retail for 10 pounds* more than Wii's games, and wireless controllers cost only 5 £ pounds less than wiimote + nunchuk combo. So if you start to buy new games, gap just widens and fast. Of course, I don't know anyone these days who would actively buy their games on full retail price. Doesn't make any sense when stuff comes rather quickly to discount bins.

I was talking about console bundles, the Xbox 360 deals are far better than the Wii ones and actually bring the prices down to just about level.
As you decided to go down this road though:
Wiimote + Nunchuck retails at £45, 360 Wireless controller retails at £33. Bit more than a £5 difference, especially if you add a classic controller on top of that.
New Xbox 360 games might be a little bit more (£40 to the Wii's £35) but again there are some excellent deals around at the moment. Argos are doing 2 for £40 on some brilliant 360 games and Tesco have some good games at £18.
Right now the 360 is the better machine, it has a decent back catalogue of games, many of which are available on the cheap. Microsoft seem to be doing a good job of keeping gamers involved in the community and keeping them informed about what is going on.
The Wii on the other hand has a limited catalogue of games, all at full price. The release radar is looking a bit confused and Nintendo dont seem to be in the mood for telling us what will be happening when (online play, connect24 updates, game releases).

Bullshit. I've played the 360 and loved it whilst offline (often with frieds round playing multiplayer) on holiday/when my internet fails like it does weekly. I'm not denying the experience is improved when on Live (Not mentioning the fact that the Wii has no online service AT ALL except for Wi-Fi connection. Well:
The Wii has not yet launched its Internet Playing things so I would say we should wait until that one got released (although I don't think it will be that brilliant but it will do what it shall do connect players to play online - question is just how it does this, lobby or ...)

I don't really know what you mean. I have played Gears Of War, Kameo, ... offline multiplay. No online. I never play online that often, so I don't even bought XBox Live Gold (just silver for some downloads) but that's it...
Interestingly enough there was discussion about this on Penny-Arcade forums, and yeah, we came to conclusion that that number of games that offer four player split-screen multiplayer mayhem is decreasing in next generation. This is seems to be true no matter what platform is. You find two player games, but four player games seems to be way more rarer.

Which is more of a joke than anything else), because it is. But offline or not, the 360 is the way to go.
It's amazing that so many games only have online multiplayer though ey?:indeed:
Im confused. 1 person said it was £40 and someone else said £20. Which price is right and do you have to pay monthly?
The Xbox live subscription pack is a one off purchase that gives you access for 12 months. You get a card in the pack and validate it online (Like with nintendo star points).
The RRP asking price is about £40, but some places are clearing out their old Xbox stuff and have failed to realise the old live packs are completely valid for 360 Live. If you shop around there is a possibility you can find them still (As I said Comet at last check were doing them for £20 with Splinter cell and a Xbox live headset).
360 is decent for offline and online. Id suggest before even thinking about getting one, if you can get it set-up online. It makes it so much better. When i had no internet for 2 weeks, my 360 didnt get used either.

Plenty of gamers are capable of playing both on and offline games. And the 360 is more capable than the Wii in both departments anyway.

It really depends what you want really. As far as I'm concerned, both machine's offer different things.
Before puchasing a console, I have to ask myself a few questions, such as:
"Will I really enjoy this?"
"Will I definitely be purchasing titles for this machine in a year or two down the line. Beyond?"
"Will others have fun, too?"
When I mean others, I mean multiplayer. It plays a very, very important part of gaming, for me. That's why I value games like Mario Party, or SSB: Melee, and that's for their multiplayer aspect.
If you're really not sure about which machine to purchase, maybe it's best to wait a while for things to pan out a bit, then you'll feel more comfortable spending your money.
Maybe ask yourself a few questions, too. Like I sorta did.

He just simply stated that many games don't have local multiplayer anymore, only online. This is at least partially true.

Yoda voice: "specs don't make console". If there isn't really anything worth playing, technical capabilities aren't really worth anything. X360 does have terrific games, and worth the price, but statement like this sounds somewhat stupid to my ear (IMO, of course).

That's not what I meant. That's not what I meant at all. And it's not what I said either :p
I meant that it already has offline play wraped up. Not that it had the specs had any bearing on which machine was worth owning at the moment.
I couldn't care less about the specs. It's about the games.

As someone else, you can buy an old Xbox Live Starter Kit for £39.99 which includes a microphone and a few Xbox (not 360) game demos. These aren't actually made anymore and many shops are selling them cheaper than RRP. You can buy subscription cards in either 1, 3 or 12 month options. 1 month is £5.99 (or maybe £4.99), 3 months is £14.99 and 12 months is £39.99, so you're better of getting 12 months.

The war will only be between the PS3 and the Wii. You guys only love the 360 because of online play and it has games in where you 'shoot people'. Get lives, it isn't real, don't get worked up over nothing is what I say.

I don't even own a 360, but it really is quality. The controller is one of the best around, there are tonnes of awesome games out for it, which is more than the wii has at the moment. The ps3 is too expensive for a games console (though worth the money) and the wii doesn't have that many great games for it (at the moment at least).

i had this problem and got the 360. The Wii just doesnt have the games and the release schedule is not that great. I am not gonna get a Wii till metroid and mario galaxy are released. the DS gets me more excited than the Wii and thats no joke..
the only downside with the 360 is the rip off wireless adaptor. i refuse too pay £60 for something which should of been free.
i got 3 month xbox live subscription and love it man!

Got my 360 today! Game did Premium + Smackdown vs Raw + PGR3 + Live Arcade + Extra Official Wireless Controller for £300. Only had 1 360 left, the box was bashed to bits so talked the guy into giving me £10 worth of reward points. Then went to Argos and bought Oblivion and Ghost Recon.
Loving it so far! PGR3 and GRAW are great, Raw is ok. Just loaded up Oblivion, looks pretty cool
Got 2 1 month Xbox Live vouchers and 1 48 hour voucher so that should keep me online for a while!

Not got a gamertag yet. Gotten myself hooked on Oblivion and spent the whole time i was supposed to be setting up Live on that!
I'll put it in my sig when i get it :)

Cheaper than free? Those were just the bundled live vouchers, gonna get a Live card when they run out. Handy really, means i can spend the money Live would have cost me on another game

I think those free things are trials, meaning you can only start an account using those but not add time onto it. You get 1 month free Live when you make an account as standard.

Yes, they pay you to take it off them .;)
Seriously, it's much cheaper than buying enough games to keep the 48 hour free trial running non-stop, or buying Live by the month, or for 3 months.

There is no "war" and even if there is, it bears no relevance to gamers...any animosity between console manufacturers only leads to better games for everyone. We have nothing to complain about. Taking sides is pointless and of no use to anyone.

yeah, why does it matter who wins the 'console war'. just buy the damned things and see which one you prefer, instead of sweating about whether nintendo will outdo microsoft in sales.

As gamers we SHOULD keep an eye on what's selling more. If in the case of the GameCube, developers pull out support, and the console gets less and less good games.

That's what he was saying, and at the moment, the 360 has better games. I'm very sure that this will change ones the wii get's more software, but there really aren't enough top quality games out on the wii right now to justify your claims.

Yes you are my friend. Very cool, but very skint.
It's cheaper than the Wii if you get a good bundle. You can get a 360 with 2 games and an extra controller for £300. A Wii with 2 games and an extra wiimote/nunchuck is £305.
My friends that have 360's dont have HDTVs but it still looks really good. Does it really make it a whole lot better?
It makes the picture so much sharper and clearer, but it still lookks amazing on a normal TV. I have to use a 14" beast and it still looks really good, the text is a little bit small though, when I use it on the 21 incher I have it looks even better.

It makes a big difference but the 360 doesnt exactly suffer in Standard Def. It looks amazing on my dads 42" plasma but even on my 15" CRT Oblivion is still the most beautiful game ive ever played!
Ironically the only console ive ever found to suffer on a small screen is the Wii, it just felt clumbsy on a 15" portable

IGN's take on the much rumoured updated Xbox 360;
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/763/763427p1.html
Xbox 360 v.2 Back In Black?
HDMI-capable Xbox 360 to see possible release in April.
US, February 9, 2007 - The Internet is alive with rumors! Today we hear that Australia is getting a black Xbox 360 replete with 120GB hard drive and HMDI port this April, according to Gaming Website Gamers' Reports latest story. The Website recently asserted it is "100% official" that a black Xbox 360 with 120GB hard drive and an HDMI port is coming this April.
Naturally, Microsoft PR representatives have a different story. "We have not made any official announcements regarding any such product at this time. Obviously, were we to announce something like this, it would have to be in a blowout press event, rather than by confirming a rumor."
The truth? Microsoft has tried to beat a very similar rumor down for quite a while now. At CES 2007, actual images appeared online showing the HDMI port. While Microsoft hasn't made any official statements on the subject, the company certainly wants to compete with Sony's PS3 feature for feature. Last fall it released the $199 HD-DVD peripheral. It's finally making 1080p games, and Microsoft told IGN at CES that if there is enough demand for an HDMI port and a bigger hard drive, they'll deliver it.
The Xbox 360 is customizable enough to make such an upgrade easily possible, and images from CES all but confirmed the existence of this Xbox 360 version 2. The stickler issue, however, is what happens to the 10.4 million people who already own an Xbox 360? Buying another hard drive is moderately reasonable, but the only way to make HDMI happen on an Xbox 360 is to have an HDMI input. Hopefully, we will hear a "blowout" announcement about Microsoft's future plans for this product soon enough.I wish Microsoft would hurry up and confirm this news!!
If there is an updated console and Australia get it as soon as April, I might as well wait and import one!
If there is no updated 360 (or not for a long time at least) then I'd be buying one now! Or as soon as a great bundle is available!
Instead, it's really annoying having to wait on this news, wasting valuable weeks to catch on up all the great games I've missed!
That Guy

Seriously, just get one now, I don't think any update will really be anything 'must have' anyway.
Charlie
11-02-2007, 02:38 PM
I don't really see how they can release an updated one without pissing of the 10 million people who already own it. Maybe they'll have some sort of trade-in option...
That Guy
11-02-2007, 07:35 PM
They should just leave it. Bring out a bigger hard drive and just sell that. If 360 really needed a HDMI port they should have put one in from the beginning.
This will be nothing more than a move that pisses off current owners and make them go for Playstation next time round.

Why would anyone want to sell their Wii? It's been, what 2 months since it came out, and you're already expecting it to have everything that was promised for the whole of 2007. Get Warioware, or Red Steel, and most importantly: get some fucking friends, cause it's no fun otherwise.

Went through all this myself last Monday so prices should still be the same.
Best deals on the high street were:
Game: Premium + PGR3 + Live Arcade + Extra Wireless Pad + Either WWE or Tomb Raider. £299
Currys: Premium + GoW + R6: Vegas. £299. They also do a "Buy any 2 official accessories and save £10
I went for the Game deal with WWE because i'd already bought GRAW and Oblivion. Good selection of games, WWE is a little weak though. If i could go back i'd have got Tomb Raider instead.

Well Jordan is right, get both. Both good games machines. Different, interesting games for both.
But get the 360 first.
Online, superb games, friends lists etc. All worth the £270 for a premium.
360 has the fun deep involving games, that will last you well over 100 hours. I went on Oblivion and I had played 44 hours of it. I've not even done much of the main storyline.
Wii got good party games, fun short spell games.
Yea, get both...but get the 360 first since the Wii won't really get in full flow for about a year, a bit like the DS! Plus you have a year of awesome, and now cheap, 360 games to catch up on. That basically what I've been doing since I got my 360 about 6 weeks ago!
