Bypassing university network help!!

As lot of people would know, universities use their own network which blocks like everything, i go university of hertfordshire and their instructions to allow windows messenger to work doesnt work for me, and i configured firefox to be used but nxt day it has problems working.

So does anyone know how to bypass university network or anywhere which has a good guide on how to bypass univeristy network and allow programs such as windows messenger, firefox, and bittorrent to work easily?
