BBC3 has a 60 second newscast inbetween movies and is followed by 1 or 2 promo clips for upcoming BBC events.
I appreciate them as I can usually go for a slash or make a cup of tea/snack.
BBC1/2 hasn't interrupted movies for a long time (used to get the news)

Its a brilliant movie and I highly recommend watching it. I do however like Howls Moving Castle more.
Is it dubbed or subtitled!? I fear the former!
Hero-of-Time

It is dubbed.

This is good but confusing... I highly recommend you watch it subbed several times...

It's about a girl who gets transported to the spirit realm and her parents get turned into pigs... she has to rescue them.

I stole this off play.com for you...
A fantasy adventure film unlike any other, 'Spirited Away' tells the story of Chihiro, a capricious, headstrong, 10 year-old girl, who believes the entire universe should submit to her every whim. Whilst en-route to a new home, Chihiro and her parents stumble on a mysterious cul-de-sac. Unwittingly they have strayed into the Land of the Spirits, a world inhabited by ancient gods and magical beings, ruled over by a demonic sorceress Yubaba. Finding an ally in the enigmatic Haku, he explains that in order to fight annihilation, to survive this strange and perilous new world, Chihiro must make herself useful, she must work. Chihiro renounces her laziness, her humanity, her reason, her memories, even her name...

My favourite Miyazaki film is Princess Mononoke, but I think Spirited Away is good too. However, it's perhaps a little too confusing...

I love Spirited Away, its the movie that brought me back into anime. My mate forced me to watch it one day and I was just blown away by it but honestly I couldnt figure out why.

I was just about to say that. Princess Mononoke is alot darker, It kept me gripped more than Sprited Away.
Princess Mononoke > Sprited Away > Howls Moving Castle.

Are you thinking of Cat Soup? That definitely isn't Miyazaki.

It had a cat in it . . with a suit on . . that used a cane as a weapon. Anime is strange huh?

Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxnDfWAFE_w) a bit from Cat Soup. It's definitely very strange, but isn't really anime. In fact, if we are to listen to the man himself, neither is Miyazaki.

I have to say Cat Soup is quite honestly the most messed up thing I've seen today.

Personally I never got what the fuss was about with this movie. I'm an anime fan, but not into Ghibli that much. There's no doubt it's a cool looking movie but 1) I've seen better anime art and 2) the story is stupid.

Yeah I agree, and with films it's always the story which is the most important aspect for me.

That's The Cat Returns or Neko No Ongaeshi. It's not a Miyazaki but is from Studio Ghibli. It's not a bad film, but then I don't think any Studio Ghibli films are. My favourite though has to be My Neighbour Totoro, it has the fantasy elements of the likes of Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle, but also seems quite grounded in reality.

I was watching bits of it during the commercial breaks when watching Muppet's Wizard Of Oz on Five. Have it on DVD anyways.

The thing that pissed me off was at the end, were 'Grandma' sent them off and just randomly said "No face you stay here". Like what the fuck, thats like a quickey solution, terrible story telling.
Kinda reminds me of star wars episode III, were the chicks giving birth at the end.
ITS A --- Call him luke!
ITS A --- Call her leila!
Seriously, who decides what they are gonna name their kid the second their fresh out the vagina? And was she expecting twins?
Gah, I hate quick solutions.
Have it on DVD anyways.
Post it in the 'Post your dvd collection' thread bitches!!!!

DemonMike: Yeah, that star wars bit did grate on my cheese as well. Actually, I'd rather forget that Natalie Portman had any part in the movies, as she was quite rubbish. Although, pleasent to look at.
If anyone didn't enjoy this film you have no soul . . .

I watched it and enjoyed it. I need to see it again to see if I can understand it any better... but on the whole it was very pleasing on the eye and the two hours flew in.
I wanted/ want to know more about No-Face cos he came from nowhere, and then just obediently stayed behind at Grannys, I found that bizarre. :blank:

I didn't do much yesterday, and I didn't get to watch it as I went round my cousin's. I really wanted to watch it, cos when I was at GAME and watching it in the PS2 someone kicked the PS2 over and it totally screwed up the disc :(
Having said that, I would say it's one of my least liked Studio Ghilbi films(that doesn't mean I don't like it immensely though)

I think the Japanese like making stuff that makes no sense to us.

I love Spirited Away! My favourite (of the 3 I've seen) Ghilbi films. I loved everything about it, even the n-face staying with Granny thing, I thought that made sense.
Also, where was it confusing? Maybe I just never look into plots very much (I rarely do) but wasn't it pretty much that the girl went to the spirit world to try and save her parents. She worked for a while, she saved them. Everyone was happy. I liked it!

I loved it when it first arrived in britain. and tuned in BBC2 again for it and I was reminded again how impressive it is.
The story is amazing. I love how the concept of "good vs bad" is completely blown away. In a way it's very unchristian, yet the emotional journey is incredible. This movie highlights what's unique and beautiful about humanity and that is expressed so simply through what the girl does. I reckon the world will become more screwed up as more and more people lose the perceptiveness to feel why this movie was celebrated so much.

More fucking dubs. It's fine to play a French film with subtitles but when it's Japanese, OH NO! We have to listen to some untalented 10 year old.

I thaught it was good for a dub. The girl doing the voice was talented. You could hear the emotion through her voice. Which is good for a child. And its good they got a child to do it instead of a middle aged woman with a high pitched voice.

Yeah, I think the dub wasn't too bad... Not ideal, but it's forgivable. You know Next door neighbour Totoro thing. That dub was ear splitting. And any of you here know the very first non-japanese release of Warriors of The Wind? That dub was so bad it made me cry (but this japanese chap who was showing this to me thought I was crying because it was impressive...:nono: )
