View Full Version : Wii And DS Connectivity - Download VC games on the fly?

Anybody else considered this? Basically, you buy the VC game and save it to your Wii. You can then connect the DS to the Wii and download that game onto the DS's internal memory, so that, until you turn the power off, you can play that game. I think there was something similar on GC/GBA, where there was a minigame you could download to the GBA temporarily using the cable. (Crash Bandicoot or something?)

What do you think of that, and the chances of it happening?

could do it with NES games on Animal crossing, will it happen? Maybe but I don't think a Wii will be needed. keeping a game on your DS until the power is turned off is kinda useless like it was on GBA. Nintendo is likly to do VC on the sequal to the DS but if Nintendo was to rlease an expansion to DS we could see it.

will it happen?
No. It is only being used as an input device for a couple of games Pokemon being the only one planned thus far- and demos of DS games.

There will only be a few games that take advantage of the former, because to require a DS (£99) plus a Wii (£179) plus any corresponding software is a tall order- it grossly destroys your market, even in Japan where DS is huge.

It will probably just be a gimmick.

If you want to play VC titles Nintendo has a wealth of ported GBA games for you to buy at retail prices- this is why they wont let you play VC titles on DS.
Not to mention the huge development costs and limitations of the DS onboard hardware.

Well i completly disgree with nintendork :P. Didnt sony announce something for the PSP similar to this idea where you download old PS1&2 games for it. Im sure Nintendo will start to do the same when that starts happening. Plus since the DS has a sleep function it makes it more conveniant for keeping games on the onboard memory.

Only problem is people seem to like giving nintendo money for rereleasing old games at full retail price.

Sony only announced that because they want people to buy a PSP, they are having trouble selling them you see- so they want it to be a feature.
The fact that a PSP + PS3 costs so much means very very few people are going to take advantage of it.

Just because Sony do something doesn't mean Nintendo are at a threat if they don't.

What has the DS sleep mode got to do with anything? Just because it can sleep doesn't mean that it will be convenient for playing VC titles.
The DS on board memory just doesn't have enough space to run a NES or SNES emulator plus the rom along with all the required drivers and interfacing tools for the soundcard and display.
It just wouldn't work.

It would work if they sold a cartridge with the emulators on it with memory on it, for £20? I would certainly consider it.

Ah ok SNES games are bigger than I thought, still reckon you could do it with NES games. The scumm emulator for DS is 3.63MB and that is way more advanced than a NES one would be.
