Just wondering how many people would pay a monthly/yearly subscription in order to play NWC in it's current state. If not, what would have to be done to NWC before you would consider paying?

I would if:
1, You could have dedicated user names
2, Exclusive features/downloads
3, Free VC points every so often (not gunna happen... but you can dream)

In it's current state? Like hell. It's a shambles really isn't it at the moment. WiFi friend codes is such a bad idea.

Not in its current state, no.

Like it is? Hello no, it's not even a service, just a connection.

Give us user names, leaderboards, stuff like xbox live. Then i'd be willnig to pay.

To answer the question: No, I wouldn't pay for this.

But then, did Nintendo ever intend for us to pay for this? They didn't over elaborate with this one.

I've always thought that the DS was a test for the next home console, and I think its no exception with the WiFi connection.

Mario Kart: We could play against friends and non-friends. Connecting to a game could be a right bitch.

However, look at the metroid system. Much, much improved. Voice and text chat, lobby system. This is how its meant to be.

Now, look at the Wii system (so far): We can send messages to other users, send Miis, other things.

It's getting better.

Yeah, i reckon there'll be better wifi gaming when the first multiplayer games are relased (online multiplayer of course)

I would never pay for it, Xbox Live I pay for, but NWC in its current state should be free. I played the Ps3 on a recent trip to New York and have to say that I wouldnt pay for their service either

No. Because they don't need us paying them any money to keep the service going.

I would pay for online Brawl though.

no i wouldn't pay for it in its current state but the reason it is in its current state is becasue its free. i would like them to offer a pro version that you pay for with leader boards etc that way users who want all this stuff pay where as there is still the free option for the casual gamer

I wouldn't pay for it, but Im just stingy

No, I don't think many would as we have already had it for free, and we would all feel ripped off. I'm sure that if when the DS was first released and this question had been brought up the answers would be very different as how many of us wanted to play MK:DS online or Animal Crossing etc. But now no, they have given it us free so I doubt many would want to pay.

nope not the way it is now! use "gamertags" create online rankings, create better in game lobby, etc...

even then I would only consider paying for it.

If we had gamertags and voice chat maybe.

Nope, i'd never pay for Wi-Fi connection. If Ninty decided to charge us for using it then they would be going back on a promise they made about a year ago when MK was released and would lose many many gamers.

The current online settings should remain free, that is messaging and Miis, but yeah, if games had a better online experience, I would pay.

I would gladly pay for it if:
1) One username of your choice over every single game
2) Voice chat during games
3) If you add someone to your friends list they just need to press accept, rather than add you back.
4) A better system to search for players, add you friends into a room, then go searching for other players.
5) If it went really fast unlike the Wii Shop Channel.
6) If it were the same as Xbox Live.

GOD NO!
It's an awful system. I'd happily pay it if it was anything like XBL, but as it stands right now, it's barely worth touching at all.

Heh old thread I know (and I started it lol) but I just bought an X360 and XBL is possibly the best thing of the 21st century, I was under the impression that online gaming just sucked and it was a fact on all services but XBL proved me wrong : peace:

don't have much reason to go onto NWC now, the X360's online service has so much more to offer.

If they offered exactly the same as xbox live - yep I'd pay

I certainly wouldn't pay for it.. I don't even think I would pay for XBox Live either, however good it may be. I'm happy enough with the WFC because it's free. If I had to pay for online, I wouldn't have any.

mike-zim

In its current state no chance. i think they should make a better service and still have it free.

If it was the same as XBL no.
If it was a good system like XBL but differnt then yes, i wouldnt want to pay twice for the same service and slightly differnt games.

NO.

I mean it's got friend codes, that's reason enough not to believe it isn't worth money.

I've yet to see a online system I would pay for. It isn't important to me.

I would for one simple reason:

Jump Ultimate Stars.

I'd pay if you could download free VC games every so often (eg 1 per month, probably won't happen though) and when they (Nintendo) would support online games much more. I mean, why isn't Wii Sports Online? Exitetruck? SSX Blur? And many other games that just really need an online mode (imo) don't have one. Maybe this is just temporary and will online play be very common on the Wii within a year, but if it's not it would be a real bummer. I'm at least expecting AC, Mario Kart and SSBB to have online support.

Oh, and it would also be very nice if we could download new content/patches for games, like on XBL :)

Hell no, I'd never pay for a console online service.

And yes, that includes Xbox Live.

Mike

Perhaps Nintendo's plan all along was to make us pay for an online subscription by giving us the current, awful system for free, and later on offering something much better, at a price. ;) A few years ago I'd have said that I'd never pay for online, but if they offered something comparable to Xbox Live, or even PS3 online, I'd probably pay for it.

Im already paying for it everytime i download a VC game

Agree with this. I'm usually hesistant on paying monthly fees on gaming services anyway, but if Nintendo completely overhauls its approach with all this Friend Code nonsense, I'd reconsider.

Why should you pay for a service which is offered as part of the game price?

The main attraction of buying the game, for many people, is the online play.

Take that away or make it a subscription only option and you will lose the customer base. I simply would not buy the games and neither would my friends and family.
