I'm starting to think about importing some Japanese games that aren't likely to ever see the light of day over here and I was wondering which were the most import friendly games? Which games are too text heavy to import?

I do have two Japanese games already - Electroplankton and Band Brothers.
Electroplankton is great to import because you don't really need to be able to read the manual to enjoy the game. The manual is really nice though - on much better quality paper, with lovely illustrations!
It's fairly easy to work out what's happening in Band Brothers too - it's pretty intuitive. I found Gamefaqs.com useful for working out exactly what was going on:

What about Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan? Is it easy to work out what's happening? That's a game I'm considering.

Osu is dead easy to get the hang of - perhaps even more so than Band Brothers, as it has handy comic strips that depict whats going on so you actually get an idea of the story - which just doesnt happen with that Bat Girl in Band Bros. Ive been playing it alot since I got it yesterday, and its very addictive and very funny - and hard as hell to master. I dont know a (written) word of Japanese, and I have had no trouble being able to understand and laugh at the scenarios for each level. Not going to be everyones cup of tea, but if you like your music games (and by the looks of things you do), you are bound to like it.
I got mine from Yes-Asia, and it took just under a week to arrive. Fantastic!

I've found even if it's a text heavy Jap game you can still follow the story, and as Jo said, still chuckle along to the story graphically.
However, anything really text-driven (i.e. RPG or 3D adventure) is a no-no. I remember trying to figure out Shadow of Memories on the PS2 in Japanese - now *that* was 'interesting'!

Haven't got it myself so don't know much about it but it's supposed to be pretty good and is highly unlikely to get a US release.
Have you seen these threads? They'll probably answer your queries.
